    Sociological problems of local patriotism

    No full text
The article investigates and develops little studied problems of local and regional patriotism and spatial ties. It is composed of two parts, of which each contains three groups of research problems. The first part is of reporting character: it presents the ways of comprehending local patriotism and related concepts, the analyses of theoretical approaches and the results of Polish empirical studies in that field. The second part is of constructional character. It shows social baokround and historical conditions of those phenomena in Poland and develops theoretical approaches. The author, referring mostly to the works by F. Znaniecki, S. Ossowski, A. Wallis and to some classical American sociologists, especially to the "community studies" research school, constructs some theoretical models of those phenomena. The above analyses point to the need of revising current concepts connoting the phenomena of local patriotism, spatial identification and spatial tie, to the need of formulating a more operational definition of local patriotism and to the need of investigating those problems in a wider theoretical perspective. In the final part of his article the author formulates such a more operational definition of local patriotism and puts forth, some proposals concerning the empirical studies of those phenomena.Digitalizacja i deponowanie archiwalnych zeszyt贸w RPEiS sfinansowane przez MNiSW w ramach realizacji umowy nr 541/P-DUN/201

The sociology of town in Poland

    No full text
The article is concerned with some aspects and conditions of the present state and prospects of development of the sociology of town in Poland. The reader will find here few comments on particular research trends or the outcome of particular research and more general considerations and evaluations of that sociological subdiscipline made from the contemporary perspective. These evaluations are in general rather critical. Ideological and socio-political conditions of domestic research on town and its social problems have been stressed. The main thesis is that the development of Polish sociology of town needs a definite elimination of all barriers of ideological and political nature (censorship, 鈥瀟aboos", access to some sources, etc.). It also requires more openness and liberalization of scientific policy, e.g. in the sphere of international contacts or as to the need of undertaking research connected with the most pressing social and practical problems of Polish towns. Sociologists who investigate the problems of Polish towns should stay in touch with modern foreign theories and should eventually get rid of some mytfis of ideological nature. Domestic sociology of town needs improvement also in theoretical and methodological planes. Developmental prospects lie in critical analysis, revision and selection as well as in combining and integrating various theoretical and social themes (mostly neomarxist and humanistic). The above would lead to changes in research projects that should more and more often be concerned with municipal policy, planning, municipal social movements, needs and aspirations of townspeople and the possibilities of fulfilling the expectations in town environment i.e. all aspects contributing to the quality of life of townspeople.Digitalizacja i deponowanie archiwalnych zeszyt贸w RPEiS sfinansowane przez MNiSW w ramach realizacji umowy nr 541/P-DUN/201

    Institutionalisation, Deinstitutionalisation and social change

    No full text
The article discusses the processes of institutionalization of social life in Poland and places them in a context of a social change. It starts with terminological problems, then it presents various platforms of the institutionalisation process, sketches the institutionalization process of social life with respect to public institutions appointed by the State and, finally, shows various possible institutional changes and their consequences. Main theses of the article are the following: 1. The institutionalisation process in the Polish People's Republic was political in character; it was aimed at authoritative regulation of its maximum range in a public sphere. It was subordinated to the interests of the authorities and it was meant to reinforce their position. 2. While public life was overly institutionalised, the institutions functioned inefficiently. At the same time some social needs did not find their institutional expression (e.g. political, economic and cultural needs). 3. At present, it is necessary to disinstitutionalise some spheres of social life (liquidation of many institutions, change of the existing institutions, creation of new institutions). 4. The above process may not be entirely spontaneous; some changes must be implemented by the State authorities.Digitalizacja i deponowanie archiwalnych zeszyt贸w RPEiS sfinansowane przez MNiSW w ramach realizacji umowy nr 541/P-DUN/201

    Spatial aspects of social differentiation

    No full text
The article investigates the problems of spatial aspects and spatial conditions of social differentiation, in particular: social inequalities. It contains theoretical and methodological theses and proposals for research in that area. The starting assumption is that the phenomena of spatial conditioning of human chances are not adequately recognized in sociology. The reason for the above is that the mechanism of determining social structures through spatial structures, and especially through unequal distribution of generally desired goods, is hidden very deeply. Insufficient recognition of these problems by sociologists may have contributed to the poor understanding of these issues by politicians and spatial planners. In Poland, these phenomena have been analysed only (and not very often) with respect to regional aspects, or with respect to relations between the town and the village. Very little attention has been devoted to the analysis of these phenomena with respect to the internal structure of towns. The article referrs to the conception formulated by the British neoegalitarian school (especially to the works of R. E. Pahl) and formulates some research proposals pertinent to Polish conditions.Digitalizacja i deponowanie archiwalnych zeszyt贸w RPEiS sfinansowane przez MNiSW w ramach realizacji umowy nr 541/P-DUN/201
