The egg and fifth instar immature of the jumping plant-louse Bactericera lyrata Seljak, Malenovský & Lauterer, 2008 (Hemiptera: Psylloidea: Triozidae) are described and illustrated for the first time based on material collected in Slovenia and reared on Potentilla reptans (Rosaceae) which is confirmed as a host plant. The morphology of the fifth instar immature is compared with closely related species and a key for the identification of the fifth instar immatures of west Palaearctic species of Bactericera Puton, 1876 associated with Rosaceae is provided. Bactericera lyrata has three generations per year in Slovenia with adults overwintering. It is unknown whether they migrate to conifers. The colour dimorphism of adults of the summer and overwintering generations is illustrated and briefly discussed

The jumping plant-lice (Hemiptera: Sternorrhyncha: Psylloidea) of the island of Socotra (Yemen) are reviewed. A total of eight species are recorded, six of them for the first time from Socotra. Four species are described as new: Colposcenia dioscoridis sp. nov. (Aphalaridae), Diaphorina caliginosa sp. nov., D. hagherensis sp. nov. (both Liviidae: Euphyllurinae), and Pauropsylla jarmilarum sp. nov. (Triozidae). Males are described for the first time for Diaphorina elegans Burckhardt & Mifsud, 1998 and immatures for Pseudophacopteron verrucifrons Burckhardt & Harten, 2006 (Phacopteronidae). Two additional species, Cacopsylla sp. (Psyllidae) and Diaphorina sp., remain formally undescribed. Host plant, biological and distributional data (if available) are provided for each species and a key for identification of adults is supplemented. The jumping plant-louse fauna of Socotra is briefly discussed from a biogeographical viewpoint.Článek představuje přehled fauny mer (Hemiptera: Psylloidea) ostrova Sokotra (Jemen). Celkem je z ostrova známo osm druhů mer, z nichž šest je v článku ze Sokotry uvedeno poprvé. Čtyři druhy jsou popsány jako nové pro vědu: Colposcenia dioscoridis sp. nov. (Aphalaridae), Diaphorina caliginosa sp. nov., D. hagherensis sp. nov. (oba Liviidae: Euphyllurinae) a Pauropsylla jarmilarum sp. nov. (Triozidae). Dále jsou poprvé popsáni samci druhu Diaphorina elegans Burckhardt & Mifsud, 1998 a nymfy druhu Pseudophacopteron verrucifrons Burckhardt & Harten, 2006 (Phacopteronidae). Dva další druhy, Cacopsylla sp. (Psyllidae) a Diaphorina sp., zůstávají formálně nepopsané. The jumping plant-lice (Hemiptera: Sternorrhyncha: Psylloidea) of the island of Socotra (Yemen) are reviewed. Two new monotypic genera of flatid planthoppers (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Flatidae) are described from Socotra island (Yemen): Dixamflata gen. nov. for D. petri sp. nov. and Kesaflata gen. nov. for K. lubosi sp. nov. Habitus, male and female external and internal genital structures of the new species are illustrated and compared to similar taxa. Both new genera share an “issid-like” habitus which evolved convergently in many unrelated planthopper groups distributed in arid and semi-arid zones of the world. They might be closely related to the western Palaearctic genera Cyphopterum Melichar, 1905 and Riodeorolix Lindberg, 1956. As both new species are sub-brachypterous and were collected in plant communities specifi c to Socotra, they may represent endemics of the island

Type specimens from the insect collections deposited in the Department of Entomology, National Museum, Prague, are currently being catalogued. In this part of the catalogue we deal with Hemiptera: Sternorrhyncha. This group is namely represented in the museum by the whitefl y collection of Jiří Zahradník and the scale insect collections of Jiří Zahradník and Josef Řeháček, while the psyllid material was mostly collected by Jiří Dlabola and other workers of the department and identifi ed by Marianna M. Loginova, Daniel Burckhardt and Pavel Lauterer (material from the expeditions of the National Museum to Iran in 1970s is particularly numerous and scientifi cally valuable). We list the types of 36 taxa (3 in Aleyrodomorpha, 3 in Coccomorpha, and 30 in Psyllomorpha), including holotypes or syntypes of 14 taxa (3 in Aleyrodomorpha, 2 in Coccomorpha, and 9 in Psyllomorpha)

Článek se věnuje faunistice polokřídlého hmyzu v okolí města Přebuz v západních Krušných horách. V letech 2010-2014 jsme tam potvrdili výskyt 118 druhů ploštic, 107 druhů křísů a 21 druhů mer. (= Erzgebirge) in western Czech Republic. The area is remarkable for well-preserved peat bogs, transitional mires, heaths and montane meadows and the occurrence of many habitat specialists among the Hemiptera. Forty-six of the species recorded are listed on the Red List of threatened invertebrates of the Czech Republic. The most noteworthy are the records of Sigara scotti (Douglas et Scott, 1868) (Heteroptera: Corixidae), Javesella bottnica Huldén, 1974 (Auchenorrhyncha: Delphacidae), and Macrosteles fieberi (Edwards, 1889) (Auchenorrhyncha: Cicadellidae) – these three species are currently known in the Czech Republic only from the Přebuz environs (for M. fieberi, we provide here first the confirmed records from the Czech Republic). The distribution and ecology of 61 species are briefly discussed in the paper and additional, hitherto unpublished records from other regions of the Czech Republic are supplied for some of them

First record of the Australian genus Platyobria Taylor, 1987 from Europe and P. biemani sp. nov. as a potential pest of Eucalyptus (Myrtaceae) (Hemiptera: Psylloidea)

    Get PDF
Platyobria biemani sp. nov. (Aphalaridae, Spondyliaspidinae) is described from the island of Lesbos (Greece) based on a series of adult specimens which were collected on a long-leaved Eucalyptus species. This is a likely host as immatures of three of the nine previously known species of Platyobria Taylor, 1987 develop on young succulent terminal branchlets or leaves of eucalypts. This is the first time that Platyobria is recorded from outside Australia from where the new species probably originates. Whereas Platyobria species do not seem to affect their hosts significantly in Australia, there is a potential that in a new environment lacking specific parasitoids, P. biemani sp. nov. may become a pest of eucalypts

Shrnujeme dostupné informace o taxonomii, biologii a rozšíření kříska leknínového a vyzdvihujeme význam plovoucí vehetace pro ochranu a monitoring vzácného hmyzu. We provide one recent and one historical record of the leafhopper Erotettix (= Macrosteles) cyane (Boheman, 1845) from the Czech Republic. A population of this species, confined to floating leaves of macrophyte vegetation of still waters and considered rare and threatened in most European countries, has recently been found on Potamogeton natans in the Dubák Pond, situated in the Meandry Smědé Nature Reserve near the village of Višňová in the Frýdlant region in northernmost Bohemia close to the Polish and German borders. This is only a second record of E. cyane from the Czech Republic after more than sixty years – previously, it was found only at Čelákovice in the Elbe Lowland in central Bohemia in 1953 by J. Dlabola. We summarize available information on the taxonomy, biology and general distribution of E. cyane and point out the importance of floating macrophyte vegetation for insect biodiversity conservation and monitorin

Contribution to the Auchenorrhyncha fauna of the Pálava Protected Landscape Area (Czech Republic) (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha et Cicadomorpha)

A list of Auchenorrhyncha species collected from field excursions during the 17th Central-European Auchenorrhyncha Meeting held in Mikulov, South Moravia, Czech Republic in August 2010 is given. A total of 133 species was recorded at four sites. One species, Macrosteles spinosus Kwon, 2013, is recorded for the first time for the Czech Republic and 34 species are new records for the fauna of the Pálava Protected Landscape Area and the Dolní Morava Biosphere Reserve. The area is valuable from a nature conservation viewpoint for the occurrence of many rare stenotopic Auchenorrhyncha species associated particularly with dry grassland vegetation, open xerothermic woodland and remnants of inland saltmarshes

Taxonomic approach to the tachinid flies Dinera carinifrons (Fallén) (Diptera: Tachinidae) and Dinera fuscata Zhang and Shima using molecular and morphometric data

    Get PDF
Molecular phylogenetic and traditional morphometric methods were applied to examine six Palaearctic taxa of the taxonomically difficult tachinid fly genus Dinera Robineau-Desvoidy (Diptera: Tachinidae), with particular reference to D. carinifrons (Fallén) and D. fuscata Zhang and Shima. Results of a phylogenetic analysis based on the mitochondrial markers 12S and 16S rDNA and multivariate statistical analyses of 19 morphometric characters were used to delimit both species. A lectotype was designated for D. carinifrons to stabilize the nomenclature in the group. Dinera carinifrons has a transpalaearctic distribution and is present in Central Europe, especially in high altitudes of the Alps. It differs from the similar and closely related D. fuscata in that it has a slightly larger body size, a dense greyish microtrichosity on the body, and different head proportions. Dinera fuscata, as delimited here, is widespread in the Palaearctic region, including Europe. Slight differences in both molecular and morphometric characters were found between western (Europe and Iran) and eastern (China and Japan) populations of D. fuscata, which are interpreted as an intraspecific variation. Differential diagnosis between D. carinifrons and D. fuscata is provided in the form of a revised portion of the determination key to the Palaearctic Dinera by Zhang and Shima (2006).
