Neurological update: non-motor symptoms in atypical parkinsonian syndromes
Among people with Parkinson’s disease (PD), non-motor symptoms (NMS) are a well-recognised cause of significant morbidity and poor quality of life. Yet, it is only more recently that NMS have been recognised to affect the lives of patients with atypical parkinsonian syndromes in a similar fashion. The aim of this article is to highlight and compare the relative prevalence of NMS among patients with atypical parkinsonian syndromes in the published literature, which largely remain underreported and unaddressed in routine clinical practice. All NMS that are recognised to occur in PD are also found to commonly occur in atypical parkinsonian syndromes. In particular, excessive daytime sleepiness is more prevalent among atypical parkinsonian syndromes (94.3%) compared to PD (33.9%) or normal controls (10.5%) (p < 0.001). Urinary dysfunction (not limited to urinary incontinence) is not only found to occur in MSA (79.7%) and PD (79.9%), but has also been reported in nearly half of the patients with PSP (49.3%), DLB (42%) and CBD (53.8%) (p < 0.001). Apathy is significantly more common among the atypical parkinsonian syndromes [PSP (56%), MSA (48%), DLB (44%), CBD (43%)] compared to PD (35%) (p = 0.029). Early recognition and addressing of NMS among atypical parkinsonian syndromes may help improve the holistic patient care provided and may encompass a range of conservative and pharmacotherapeutic treatments to address these symptoms
Incremental expansions for Hubbard-Peierls systems
The ground state energies of infinite half-filled Hubbard-Peierls chains are
investigated combining incremental expansion with exact diagonalization of
finite chain segments. The ground state energy of equidistant infinite Hubbard
(Heisenberg) chains is calculated with a relative error of less than for all values of using diagonalizations of 12-site (20-site)
chain segm ents. For dimerized chains the dimerization order parameter as a
function of the onsite repulsion interaction has a maximum at nonzero
values of , if the electron-phonon coupling is lower than a critical
value . The critical value is found with high accuracy to be
. For smaller values of the position of the maximum of is
approximately , and rapidly tends to zero as approaches from
below. We show how our method can be applied to calculate breathers for the

Highly Dispersive Spin Excitations in the Chain Cuprate Li2CuO2
We present an inelastic neutron scattering investigation of Li2CuO2 detecting
the long sought quasi-1D magnetic excitations with a large dispersion along the
CuO2-chains studied up to 25 meV. The total dispersion is governed by a
surprisingly large ferromagnetic (FM) nearest-neighbor exchange integral
J1=-228 K. An anomalous quartic dispersion near the zone center and a
pronounced minimum near (0,0.11,0.5) r.l.u. (corresponding to a spiral
excitation with a pitch angle about 41 degree point to the vicinity of a 3D
FM-spiral critical point. The leading exchange couplings are obtained applying
standard linear spin-wave theory. The 2nd neighbor inter-chain interaction
suppresses a spiral state and drives the FM in-chain ordering below the Ne'el
temperature. The obtained exchange parameters are in agreement with the results
for a realistic five-band extended Hubbard Cu 3d O 2p model and L(S)DA+U

Modeling Bangladesh's gross domestic product using regression approach
This study finds the factors that affect Bangladesh’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through regression approach. Stepwise and Ridge regression techniques have been applied to build the suitable regression model. Model adequacy also has been checked and multicollinearity problem is addressed for a plausible model using appropriate remedial measures for each of the model one after another that yields stepwise regression. The multicollinearity problem has also been tried to combat by ridge regression. Finally, the model which is adequate and free from multicollinearity problem after applying the ridge regression has been considered as the credible model for predicting the GDP of Bangladesh. The final model shows that the factors population, imports of goods and services, agriculture value added, manufacturing value added and labor force are positively affecting the GDP of Bangladesh

Transition from Knudsen to molecular diffusion in activity of absorbing irregular interfaces
We investigate through molecular dynamics the transition from Knudsen to
molecular diffusion transport towards 2d absorbing interfaces with irregular
geometry. Our results indicate that the length of the active zone decreases
continuously with density from the Knudsen to the molecular diffusion regime.
In the limit where molecular diffusion dominates, we find that this length
approaches a constant value of the order of the system size, in agreement with
theoretical predictions for Laplacian transport in irregular geometries.
Finally, we show that all these features can be qualitatively described in
terms of a simple random-walk model of the diffusion process.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
