Effect of internal heat evolution on the motion of a solid particle in a viscous fluid

    Get PDF
The problem of the effect of internal heat evolution on the motion of a heated solid spherical particle in a viscous fluid is analytically solved in the Stokes approximation at small Reynolds and Peclet numbers. The temperature drop between the surface of the particle and the area away from it is assumed to be arbitrary. In solving hydrodynamic equations, the thermal conductivity of the particle is set to be a power function of temperature and the viscosity of the fluid, an exponential-power function of temperature. The observability of this effect is discussedyesBelgorod State Universit

The Mediterranean problems in the context of the international aspects of the civil war in Spain 1936-1939

In their study, the researchers has made an attempt to analyze such international aspects of the Spanish Civil War as the Mediterranean aspect. The researchers looks at it in the context of international relations on the base of the materials from the Archives of Foreign policy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published diplomacy documents of main European countrie

European regional conflicts of the second half of the 1930s and the evolution of the national-socialist Image of enemy

Regional conflicts in West and Central Europe, in the second half of the 1930s symbolized the collapse of the Versailles system, olarizing the situation and affecting the balance of power on the continent. All of them had international aspects, including propaganda aspect. European regional conflicts (1936-1939) have become a convenient case for approbation of the "old" Nazi ideological postulates as well as for development of "new" one

Construction and Validation of Biology Assessment Test (BAT) for Junior High School Students

    Get PDF
This test development study aims to develop and validate an achievement test in Biology designed for junior high school completers. Test items were pooled from selected lessons in Biology. The researchers prepared a table of specification (TOS) and subjected the102- item multiple choice type of examination to validation by experts. After the initial validation, the test had 88 items that were pilot tested among 172 grade 11 students at a private university. The researcher did item analysis which classified 67 items as "average," 21 as "hard," none as" easy," 10 as "very good", 12 as "good," 19 as “fair” and 47 as "poor." Consistency and reliability were obtained using Kuder-Richardson (KR) 20. A total of 22 items were retained of the 88 based on validation and item analysis. Three items that were initially classified as "fair" and with "marginal" difficulty index were revised to produce a 25-item final version of the Biology Achievement Test

U12 intron positions are more strongly conserved between animals and plants than U2 intron positions

    Get PDF
We report that the positions of minor, U12 introns are conserved in orthologous genes from human and Arabidopsis to an even greater extent than the positions of the major, U2 introns. The U12 introns, especially, conserved ones are concentrated in 5'-portions of plant and animal genes, where the U12 to U2 conversions occurs preferentially in the 3'-portions of genes. These results are compatible with the hypothesis that the high level of conservation of U12 intron positions and their persistence in genomes despite the unidirectional U12 to U2 conversion are explained by the role of the slowly excised U12 introns in down-regulation of gene expression

Proton-Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) Analysis and DNA-chain Break study in rat hepatocarcinogenesis: A possible chemopreventive role by combined supplementation of vanadium and beta-carotene

    Get PDF
Combined effect of vanadium and beta-carotene on rat liver DNA-chain break and Proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE) analysis was studied during a necrogenic dose (200 mg/kg of body weight) of Diethyl Nitrosamine (DENA) induced rat liver carcinogenesis. Morphological and histopathological changes were observed as an end point biomarker. Supplementation of vanadium (0.5 ppm ad libitum) in drinking water and beta-carotene in the basal diet (120 mg/Kg of body weight) were performed four weeks before DENA treatment and continued till the end of the experiment (16 weeks). PIXE analysis revealed the restoration of near normal value of zinc, copper, and iron, which were substantially altered when compared to carcinogen treated groups. Supplementation of both vanadium and beta-carotene four weeks before DENA injection was found to offer significant (64.73%, P < 0.001) protection against generation of single-strand breaks when compared with the carcinogen control counter parts. A significant stabilization of hepatic architecture of the cells was observed as compared to carcinogen control in vanadium plus beta-carotene treated group. This study thus suggests that vanadium, a prooxidant but potential therapeutic agent yield safe and effective pharmacological formulation with beta-carotene, an antioxidant, in the inhibition of experimental rat hepatocarcinogenesis

The Role of Germany, Italy and Portugal in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) in the Representation of the British Media

    Get PDF
The purpose of the article is to reveal the nature of the reflection of the events of the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939 in the British press. The most important factor shaping public opinion was the periodical press. The authors emphasize that events on the European continent, including local conflicts, significantly influenced the mindset of British society, combined with an acute party struggle on foreign policy issues. The practical component of the article is based on the analysis of about 20 titles of British Newspapers political orientation. The results of the study showed that the publications were divided on the issue of criticism or support for the Italian-German intervention in Spain as follows: sharp rejection - the Communist, labour and liberal press (violation of international norms, understanding of intervention as aggression); neutral or slightly negative attitude: part of the conservative press (mutual internationalization of the conflict)

Mass selection in laser-plasma ion accelerator on nanostructured surfaces

    Get PDF
When an intense laser pulse interacts with a solid surface, ions get accelerated in the laser-plasma due to the formation of transient longitudinal electric field along the target normal direction. However, the acceleration is not mass-selective. The possibility of manipulating such ion acceleration scheme to enhance the energy of one ionic species (either proton or carbon) selectively over the other species is investigated experimentally using nanopore targets. For an incident laser intensity of approximately 5×1017 W/cm2, we show that the acceleration is optimal for protons when the pore diameter is about 15-20 nm, while carbon ions are optimally accelerated when the pore diameter is close to 40-50 nm. The observed effect is due to tailoring targetry by the pulse pedestal of the laser prior to the arrival of the main pulse

Quantum thermodynamics of a charged magneto-oscillator coupled to a heat bath

Explicit results for various quantum thermodynamic function (QTF) of a charged magneto-oscillator coupled to a heat bath at arbitrary temperature are demonstrated in this paper. Discernible expressions for different QTF in the two limits of very low and very high temperatures are presented for three popular heat bath models : Ohmic, single relaxation time and blackbody radiation. The central result is that the effect of magnetic field turns out to be important at low temperatures yet crucial at high temperatures. It is observed that the dissipation parameter, γ\gamma, and the cyclotron frequency, ωc\omega_c, affect the decaying or rising behaviour of various QTF in just the opposite way to each other at low temperatures. In the high temperature regime, the effect of γ\gamma is much pronounced than that of ωc\omega_c.Comment: 26 Pages, 18 Figure
