The title compound, C10H8BrF3N2, crystallizes with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit, which can be considered as being related by a pseudo-inversion center, so their conformations are different; the corresponding N=C—N—C torsion angles are 54.6 (5) and −50.5 (5)°. In the crystal, molecules related by translation in [001] interact through short intermolecular Br...F contacts [3.276 (2) and 3.284 (2) Å], thus forming two types of crystallographically independent chains

    Coherent J/ψ and ψ photoproduction at midrapidity in ultra-peripheral Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

    No full text
The coherent photoproduction of J/ψJ/ψ and ψ′ψ′ mesons was measured in ultra-peripheral Pb–Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy sNN−−−√ = 5.02sNN = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector. Charmonia are detected in the central rapidity region for events where the hadronic interactions are strongly suppressed. The J/ψJ/ψ is reconstructed using the dilepton (l+l−l+l−) and proton–antiproton decay channels, while for the ψ′ψ′ the dilepton and the l+l−π+π−l+l−π+π− decay channels are studied. The analysis is based on an event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 233 μb−1μb−1. The results are compared with theoretical models for coherent J/ψJ/ψ and ψ′ψ′ photoproduction. The coherent cross section is found to be in a good agreement with models incorporating moderate nuclear gluon shadowing of about 0.64 at a Bjorken-x of around 6×10−46×10−4, such as the EPS09 parametrization, however none of the models is able to fully describe the rapidity dependence of the coherent J/ψJ/ψ cross section including ALICE measurements at forward rapidity. The ratio of ψ′ψ′ to J/ψJ/ψ coherent photoproduction cross sections was also measured and found to be consistent with the one for photoproduction off protons

(KSKS0)-K-0 and (KSK +/-)-K-0 femtoscopy in pp collisions at root s=5.02and 13 TeV

    No full text
Femtoscopic correlations with the particle pair combinations KS0KS0 and KS0K± are studied in pp collisions at s=5.02 and 13 TeV by the ALICE experiment. At both energies, boson source parameters are extracted for both pair combinations, by fitting models based on Gaussian size distributions of the sources, to the measured two-particle correlation functions. The interaction model used for the KS0KS0 analysis includes quantum statistics and strong final-state interactions through the f0(980) and a0(980) resonances. The model used for the KS0K± analysis includes only the final-state interaction through the a0 resonance. Source parameters extracted in the present work are compared with published values from pp collisions at s=7 TeV and the different pair combinations are found to be consistent. From the observation that the strength of the KS0KS0 correlations is significantly greater than the strength of the KS0K± correlations, the new results are compatible with the a0 resonance being a tetraquark state of the form (q1,q2‾,s,s‾), where q1 and q2 are u or d quarks

    Charged-particle multiplicity fluctuations in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

    No full text
Measurements of event-by-event fluctuations of charged-particle multiplicities in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV using the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are presented in the pseudorapidity range |η| < 0.8 and transverse momentum 0.2 < pT < 2.0 GeV/c. The amplitude of the fluctuations is expressed in terms of the variance normalized by the mean of the multiplicity distribution. The η and pT dependences of the fluctuations and their evolution with respect to collision centrality are investigated. The multiplicity fluctuations tend to decrease from peripheral to central collisions. The results are compared to those obtained from HIJING and AMPT Monte Carlo event generators as well as to experimental data at lower collision energies. Additionally, the measured multiplicity fluctuations are discussed in the context of the isothermal compressibility of the high-density strongly-interacting system formed in central Pb–Pb collisions

    Soft-Dielectron Excess in Proton-Proton Collisions at s =13 TeV

    No full text
A measurement of dielectron production in proton-proton (pp) collisions at √s=13 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC, is presented in this Letter. The data set was recorded with a reduced magnetic solenoid field. This enables the investigation of a kinematic domain at low dielectron (ee) invariant mass mee and pair transverse momentum pT,ee that was previously inaccessible at the LHC. The cross section for dielectron production is studied as a function of mee, pT,ee, and event multiplicity dNch/dη. The expected dielectron rate from hadron decays, called hadronic cocktail, utilizes a parametrization of the measured η/π0 ratio in pp and proton-nucleus collisions, assuming that this ratio shows no strong dependence on collision energy at low transverse momentum. Comparison of the measured dielectron yield to the hadronic cocktail at 0.15 < mee < 0.6 GeV/c2 and for pT,ee < 0.4 GeV/c indicates an enhancement of soft dielectrons, reminiscent of the “anomalous” soft-photon and soft-dilepton excess in hadron-hadron collisions reported by several experiments under different experimental conditions. The enhancement factor over the hadronic cocktail amounts to 1.61 ± 0.13(stat) ± 0.17(syst, data) ± 0.34(syst, cocktail) in the ALICE acceptance. Acceptance-corrected excess spectra in mee and pT,ee are extracted and compared with calculations of dielectron production from hadronic bremsstrahlung and thermal radiation within a hadronic many-body approach.publishedVersio

First measurement of the |t|-dependence of coherent J/ψ photonuclear production

    No full text
The first measurement of the cross section for coherent J/ψ photoproduction as a function of |t|, the square of the momentum transferred between the incoming and outgoing target nucleus, is presented. The data were measured with the ALICE detector in ultra-peripheral Pb–Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair sNN=5.02TeV with the J/ψ produced in the central rapidity region |y|<0.8, which corresponds to the small Bjorken-x range (0.3−1.4)×10−3. The measured |t|-dependence is not described by computations based only on the Pb nuclear form factor, while the photonuclear cross section is better reproduced by models including shadowing according to the leading-twist approximation, or gluon-saturation effects from the impact-parameter dependent Balitsky–Kovchegov equation. These new results are therefore a valid tool to constrain the relevant model parameters and to investigate the transverse gluonic structure at very low Bjorken-x

Elliptic Flow of Electrons from Beauty-Hadron Decays in Pb-Pb Collisions at √sNN=5.02  TeV

    No full text
The elliptic flow of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity ( | y | < 0.8 ) is measured in Pb-Pb collisions at √ s N N = 5.02     TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The azimuthal distribution of the particles produced in the collisions can be parametrized with a Fourier expansion, in which the second harmonic coefficient represents the elliptic flow, v 2 . The v 2 coefficient of electrons from beauty hadron decays is measured for the first time in the transverse momentum ( p T ) range 1.3 – 6     GeV / c in the centrality class 30%–50%. The measurement of electrons from beauty-hadron decays exploits their larger mean proper decay length c τ ≈ 500     μ m compared to that of charm hadrons and most of the other background sources. The v 2 of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity is found to be positive with a significance of 3.75     σ . The results provide insights into the degree of thermalization of beauty quarks in the medium. A model assuming full thermalization of beauty quarks is strongly disfavored by the measurement at high p T , but is in agreement with the results at low p T . Transport models including substantial interactions of beauty quarks with an expanding strongly interacting medium describe the measurement within uncertainties
