Desta forma, serão aqui anunciadas as
propostas metodológicas para a elaboração do estudo académico, bem como
apresentadas as temáticas teóricas a desenvolver e o estudo empírico a concretizar.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Publicado em "Género, direitos humanos e ativismos: atas do V Congresso Internacional em Estudos Culturais", Vol.1.
Gender as a system of power and identity performativity in the epistemological context of Cultural Studies
Publicado em "Gender, human rights and activisms: proceedings of the Fifth International Congress in Cultural Studies". ISBN 978-989-99682-0-2This essay aims to demonstrate the place of Gender Studies within Cultural Studies, reflecting on its
epistemological evolution. In addition to recognizing the benefits of Cultural Studies’ multidisciplinary
context, this paper identifies key concepts power and identity closely linked to gender and its study.
The concept of power combined with discursive practices involving deep ideological/hegemonic moments,
but also moments of resistance is fundamental in understanding gender. Accordingly, gender
is closely linked with the concept of identity, which involved in power relations, now follows the path
of performativity.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The seasonality structure of demand in the portuguese hotel industry before the COVID-19 pandemic
The purpose of this paper is to study the monthly seasonality structure of demand
in the hotel industry in continental Portugal before the outbreak of the COVID-19
pandemic in 2020. The tourism sector accounts for more than 10% of Portugal’s GDP,
as well as being a key factor for regional development and employment. Understanding
the seasonality structure of the hotel sector provides useful insight about business
viability and aids operational decisions, namely concerning the post-pandemic recovery.
Therefore, we analyze time-series data collected from Statistics Portugal, concerning
net bed occupancy rates for continental Portugal, as well as according to region and
hotel category, for the pre-pandemic period between 2014 and 2019. This allows us to
identify the seasonal peaks according to region and compare the differences in demand
for hotels according to hotel category. We also analyze the relationship between the
seasonality coefficients and the average income per night (room rate)
The sovereign CDS-Bond basis: from a crisis perspective
A Work Project, presented as part of the requirements for the Award of a Masters Degree in Finance from the NOVA – School of Business and EconomicsThis work studies the determinants of the sovereign CDS-bond basis distortions, in the Euro area, during the last crises period.
Regression analysis showed four relevant conclusions. Credit rating and credit outlook downgrades have a huge impact on the sovereign credit instruments premiums, although not originating arbitrage opportunities. Moreover, the ECB rate has a smoother effect on the sovereign debt markets’ functioning and the risk-transfer balance between the state and the financial sector seems to have shifted from one crisis period to the other. Finally, markets’ liquidity is the most powerful force in driving arbitrage opportunities in the sovereign debt market
Cultural Studies are presented as an interdisciplinary area, whereby
one should not be surprised by the proximity to the theoretical
conception of the General Systems Theory we propose, especially
regarding to the new fragmented forms of gender identity(ies). This
paper discusses the evolution of the traditional concept of gender
identity as a system and presents theoretical proposals that seek to
resume the discussion and shed light on the controversy related to
male and female performances

Bad habits in oral hygiene on campus: to change or not to change, that’s the question!
Oral health behaviours are fundamental for health, but few studies have been focused on them, particularly on university students. This study aims to describe st udent s’ oral hygiene behaviours, perceptions about campus facilities concerning oral hygiene, and readiness to change oral behaviours. Participants were 403 college students from University of Minho, attending different courses; 70.5% were female. The mean age was 22.74 (s.d.= 4.74). The percentage of students that self-report absence of daily oral care was 61.5. The majority of students (88.6%) have meals on campus, however only 20.7% practiced oral health behaviours. Only 10.4% evaluated campus’ conditions to promote oral hygiene as “good” or “very good”. If conditions improved, 40.4% would think about changing their behaviours and 29% would effectively change them. These results reveal the urgency to improve oral hygiene habits on campus and encourage the development of health promotion programmes
