In 2015, annual precipitation of 21.72 in. was recorded, which is 3.82 in. above normal. Seven months had above-normal precipitation. May (6.16 in.) was the wettest month. The largest single amount of precipitation was 1.86 in. on July 20. December, the driest month, only recorded 0.08 in. of precipitation

Interstate Vibronic Coupling Constants Between Electronic Excited States for Complex Molecules

    Get PDF
In the construction of diabatic vibronic Hamiltonians for quantum dynamics in the excited-state manifold of molecules, the coupling constants are often extracted solely from information on the excited-state energies. Here, a new protocol is applied to get access to the interstate vibronic coupling constants at the time-dependent density functional theory level through the overlap integrals between excited-state adiabatic auxiliary wavefunctions. We discuss the advantages of such method and its potential for future applications to address complex systems, in particular those where multiple electronic states are energetically closely lying and interact. As examples, we apply the protocol to the study of prototype rhenium carbonyl complexes [Re(CO)3_3(N,N)(L)]n+^{n+} for which non-adiabatic quantum dynamics within the linear vibronic coupling model and including spin-orbit coupling have been reported recently.Comment: 36 pages, 7 figures, 4 table

Finite size effects on thermal denaturation of globular proteins

Finite size effects on the cooperative thermal denaturation of proteins are considered. A dimensionless measure of cooperativity, Omega, scales as N^zeta, where N is the number of amino acids. Surprisingly, we find that zeta is universal with zeta = 1 + gamma, where the exponent gamma characterizes the divergence of the susceptibility for a self-avoiding walk. Our lattice model simulations and experimental data are consistent with the theory. Our finding rationalizes the marginal stability of proteins and substantiates the earlier predictions that the efficient folding of two-state proteins requires the folding transition temperature to be close to the collapse temperature.Comment: 3 figures. Nonlinear AC resistivity in s-wave and d-wave disordered granular superconductors

We model s-wave and d-wave disordered granular superconductors with a three-dimensional lattice of randomly distributed Josephson junctions with finite self-inductance. The nonlinear ac resistivity of these systems was calculated using Langevin dynamical equations. The current amplitude dependence of the nonlinear resistivity at the peak position is found to be a power law characterized by exponent α\alpha. The later is not universal but depends on the self-inductance and current regimes. In the weak current regime α\alpha is independent of the self-inductance and equal to 0.5 or both of s- and d-wave materials. In the strong current regime this exponent depends on the screening. We find α1\alpha \approx 1 for some interval of inductance which agrees with the experimental finding for d-wave ceramic superconductors.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. Let

Scaling of folding properties in simple models of proteins

Scaling of folding properties of proteins is studied in a toy system -- the lattice Go model with various two- and three- dimensional geometries of the maximally compact native states. Characteristic folding times grow as power laws with the system size. The corresponding exponents are not universal. Scaling of the thermodynamic stability also indicates size-related deterioration of the folding properties.Comment: REVTeX, 4 pages, 4 EPS figures, PRL (in press
