Simulation of mirror inversion of quantum states in an XY spin chain using NMR

We report an experimental quantum simulation of unitary dynamics of an XY spin chain with pre-engineered couplings. Using this simulation, we demonstrate the mirror inversion of quantum states, proposed by Albanese et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 93, 230502 (2004)]. The experiment is performed with a 5-qubit dipolar coupled spin system using nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. To perform quantum simulation we make use of the recently proposed unitary operator decomposition algorithm of Ajoy et al. [Phys. Rev. A 85, 030303 (2012)] along with numerical pulse optimization techniques. Further, using mirror inversion, we demonstrate that entangled states can be transferred from one end of the chain to the other end. The simulations are implemented with high experimental fidelity, which implies that these kind of simulations may be possible in larger systems.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figure

An Ethnobotanical Study of Medicinal Plants used by the Locals in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, India

    Get PDF
This study represents a systematic attempt to explore the knowledge of the native people about plants, which they use to cure diseases. And it is an attempt towards conserving the local knowledge of people to plants. This paper presents a list and uses of some medicinal plants distributed in the high altitude district Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir. The list was prepared during an ethno-botanical survey of the region from December 2007 to January, 2009. This paper provides information about 71 ethno-medicinally useful plants grown in this region. In this paper, family, botanical name, local name, ethnomedicinal uses are given for each plant

T-root blades in a steam turbine rotor: A case study

The present work illustrates, 3D finite element analysis (FEA) of low-pressure (LP) steam turbine bladed disk assembly are carried out at a constant speed loading condition. The prime objective is to study structural integrity of bladed disk root with aid of design considerations at design stage. Secondly, design rules are developed for structural integrity of blades and disk considering a factor of safety for material, manufacturing and temperature uncertainties. These design rules are in turn used as design checks with aid of finite element analysis results. Investigations are performed based on Neuber formulae for solving a highly non-linear problem employing linear analysis tool ANSYS 12.0. Local peak stresses at blade and disk root fillet of linear analysis is used to identify the equivalent non-linear stress value by strain energy distribution method for estimating the minimum number of cycles required for crack initiation for low cycle fatigue (LCF) calculations. Design methodology is developed to address the structural integrity of blades at design point and for off-design conditions

Classical and Bayesian estimation of stress-strength reliability of a component having multiple states

    Get PDF
PurposeThis article presents the multi-state stress-strength reliability computation of a component having three states namely, working, deteriorating and failed state.Design/methodology/approachThe probabilistic approach is used to obtain the reliability expression by considering the difference between the values of stress and strength of a component, say, for example, the stress (load) and strength of a power generating unit is in terms of megawatt. The range of values taken by the difference variable determines the various states of the component. The method of maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimation is used to obtain the estimators of the parameters and system reliability.FindingsThe maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimates of the reliability approach the actual reliability for increasing sample size.Originality/valueObtained a new expression for the multi-state stress-strength reliability of a component and the findings are positively supported by presenting the general trend of estimated values of reliability approaching the actual value of reliability.</jats:sec

A strategic approach for preparation of oxide nanomaterials

    Get PDF
A microwave assisted solvothermal method is described for rapid preparation of nano-oxides. This method is based on exploiting differential dielectric constants to induce preferred heating and decomposition of the oxide precursors in the presence of suitable capping agents. This strategic approach has been used to prepare nanopowders of MgO, NiO, ZnO, Al2O3, Fe2O3 and ZrO2

Formulation and Evaluation of Loxoprofen Sodium Tablets.

The best new therapeutic entity in the world is of little value without an appropriate delivery system. Tablet delivery systems can range from simple immediate release formulations to complex extended or modified release dosage forms. The most important role of drug delivery system is to get the drug delivered to the site of action in sufficient amount and at the appropriate rate; however it must also meet a number of other essential criteria. These include physical and chemical stability, ability to be economically mass produced in a manner that assures the proper amount of drug in each and every dosage form and in each batch produced and as far as possible patient acceptability the drug and the delivery systems cannot be separated. The main objective of the experimental work undertaken was to develop and evaluate the formulation of Loxoprofen sodium Tablets. The results of the study done are summarized as the tablets manufactured also possessed acceptable parameters almost resembling the market sample and the coating process of the tablets was optimized with a good release of drug from the coated tablets. From the results it can be concluded that Loxoprofen sodium Tablet was formulated and evaluated . Several trials have been taken to optimize and develop a robust formulation. Various processing problems were encountered during the formulation development and these were overcome with proper optimization of composition of formulation ingredients and processing conditions. The coated tablets were evaluated for the physical as well as chemical attributes and were found to be satisfactory in comparison to the market sample. Two reproducibility batches (T11 and T12) were taken for the finalized batch ie.T10 and were charged for stability studies at accelerated condition. The stability study for 3 months shows that the formulation is stable enough at 400C/75%RH
