Hybrid Prototypes to Assist Modeling Automotive Seats
The development of new modular seats is an important issue in the automotive industry.
However, is very time consuming and costly. Virtual models and hybrid prototypes could
accelerate the car seats development process. The hybrid prototypes are mainly manufactured by
rapid prototyping with multi materials. The objective of this paper is to establish a methodology
to develop innovative lightweight multi-functional, modular car seats to be used in Multi-Purpose
Vehicles (MPV), by means of FEA simulation and rapid prototyping additive/subtractive
technologies utilizing multi materials. A case study is presented to validate the developed
methodology. The manufactured hybrid prototype’s reproduces the main functionalities of the
MPV modular seat, namely its three key positions: normal, stored and table.Mechanical Engineerin
Data-driven disaster management in a smart city
Disasters, both natural and man-made, are extreme and complex events with consequences that translate into a loss of life and/or destruction of properties. The advances in IT and Big Data analysis represent an opportunity for the development of resilient environments once the application of analytical methods allows extracting information from a significant amount of data, optimizing the decision-making processes. This research aims to apply the CRISP-DM methodology to extract information about incidents that occurred in the city of Lisbon with emphasis on occurrences that affected buildings, constituting a tool to assist in the management of the city. Through this research, it was verified that there are temporal and spatial patterns of occurrences that affected the city of Lisbon, with some types of occurrences having a higher incidence in certain periods of the year, such as floods and collapses that occur when there are high levels of precipitation. On the other hand, it was verified that the downtown area of the city is the area most affected by occurrences. Finally, machine learning models were applied to the data and the predictive model Random Forest obtained the best result with an accuracy of 58%.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Remote Monitor System for Alzheimer disease
Health Remote Monitoring Systems (HRMS) offer the ability to address health-care human resource concerns. In developing nations, where pervasive mobile networks and device access are linking people like never before, HRMS are of special relevance. A fundamental aim of this research work is the realization of technological-based solution to triage and follow-up people living with dementias so as to reduce pressure on busy staff while doing this from home so as to avoid all unnecessary visits to hospital facilities, increasingly perceived as dangerous due to COVID-19 but also raising nosocomial infections, raising alerts for abnormal values. Sensing approaches are complemented by advanced predictive models based on Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), thus being able to explore novel ways of demonstrating patient-centered predictive measures. Low-cost IoT devices composing a network of sensors and actuators aggregated to create a digital experience that will be used and exposure to people to simultaneously conduct several tests and obtain health data that can allow screening of early onset dementia and to aid in the follow-up of selected cases. The best ML for predicting AD was logistic regression with an accuracy of 86.9%. This application as demonstrated to be essential for caregivers once they can monitor multiple patients in real-time and actuate when abnormal values occur.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
Editorial
This being my first editorial after March elections, I think it is important to share and reflect on the main guidelines that will conduct the action of the new Management.
First of all, a word of appreciation to all previous Directorates for their work in favor of the Portuguese Radiology, gradually increasing its external visibility and always maintaining a particular emphasis on the continuous training of Radiologists.
Migrating contents to online platforms is a worldwide trend that we will have to follow. The Society has on file a large source of papers presented at high quality Congresses and Meetings, which will be available in the Members area for consultation.
The Radiological Act will maintain its important role as a vehicle for the dissemination of the national scientific production and its indexation is in progress.
The Society School has played a key role in the training of residents and it will be maintained. Given its great success we will seek to broaden its scope to allow Experts to take advantage of this as well.
We will maintain the organization of all the usual Courses and Congresses, as well as the existing partnerships with similar Scientific Societies.
Training residents will also be fundamental in our line of action.
The Portuguese Society of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, despite being a society of a scientific nature, cannot ignore the “non-scientific” problems that affect Radiologists, namely in terms of their professional practice and will continue to support and organize discussion forums where these issues can be debated and discussed.
To achieve these goals we need everyone's collaboration! Please send suggestions and/or criticism to the Society on how we can improve our action. At a time when our specialty is the target of multiple attacks from many different directions, we will only be able to prevail if we remain united and focused on our goals.
Caso Clínico ARP Nº 3: Não Compactação Ventricular e Enfarte do Ventrículo Esquerdo

Transcriptomics in ecotoxicology
The emergence of analytical tools for high-throughput screening of biomolecules has revolutionized the way in which toxicologists explore the impact of chemicals or other stressors on organisms. One of the most developed and routinely applied high-throughput analysis approaches is transcriptomics, also often referred to as gene expression profiling. The transcriptome represents all RNA molecules, including the messenger RNA (mRNA), which constitutes the building blocks for translating DNA into amino acids to form proteins. The entirety of mRNA is a mirror of the genes that are actively expressed in a cell or an organism at a given time. This in turn allows one to deduce how organisms respond to changes in the external environment. In this article we explore how transcriptomics is currently applied in ecotoxicology and highlight challenges and trends
Data fusion and visualization towards city disaster management: Lisbon case study
INTRODUCTION: Due to the high level of unpredictability and the complexity of the information requirements, disaster management operations are information demanding. Emergency response planners should organize response operations efficiently and assign rescue teams to particular catastrophe areas with a high possibility of surviving. Making decisions becomes more difficult when the information provided is heterogeneous, out of date, and often fragmented.
OBJECTIVES: In this research work a data fusion of different information sources and a data visualization process was applied to provide a big picture about the disruptive events in a city. This high-level knowledge is important for emergency management authorities. This holistic process for managing, processing, and analysing the seven Vs (Volume, Velocity, Variety, Variability, Veracity, Visualization, and Value) in order to generate actionable insights for disaster management.
METHODS: A CRISP-DM methodology over smart city-data was applied. The fusion approach was introduced to merge different data sources.
RESULTS: A set of visual tools in dashboards were produced to support the city municipality management process. Visualization of big picture based on different data available is the proposed work.
CONCLUSION: Through this research, it was verified that there are temporal and spatial patterns of occurrences that affected the city of Lisbon, with some types of occurrences having a higher incidence in certain periods of the year, such as floods and collapses that occur when there are high levels of precipitation. On the other hand, it was verified that the downtown area of the city is the most affected area.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Analytic Plane Wave Solutions for the Quaternionic Potential Step
By using the recent mathematical tools developed in quaternionic differential
operator theory, we solve the Schroedinger equation in presence of a
quaternionic step potential. The analytic solution for the stationary states
allows to explicitly show the qualitative and quantitative differences between
this quaternionic quantum dynamical system and its complex counterpart. A brief
discussion on reflected and transmitted times, performed by using the
stationary phase method, and its implication on the experimental evidence for
deviations of standard quantum mechanics is also presented. The analytic
solution given in this paper represents a fundamental mathematical tool to find
an analytic approximation to the quaternionic barrier problem (up to now solved
by numerical method).Comment: 15 pages, 2 figure
