Investigating the inclusive transverse spectra in high-energy collisions in the context of geometric scaling framework
The presence of geometric scaling within the spectra of produced
hadrons at high energy collisions using small- -factorization is
investigated. It is proposed a phenomenological parameterization for the
unintegrated gluon distribution in the scaling range which reproduces the
features of the differential cross section both in the saturated and dilute
perturbative QCD regimes. As the saturation scale acts as an effective
regulator of the infrared region (IR), the extension of the model to quantities
usually associated to soft physics is studied. The approach is applied to
compute the average and the rapidity distribution of produced gluons at
high energies.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figure
Estimations for the Single Diffractive production of the Higgs boson at the Tevatron and the LHC
The single diffractive production of the standard model Higgs boson is
computed using the diffractive factorization formalism, taking into account a
parametrization for the Pomeron structure function provided by the H1
Collaboration. We compute the cross sections at next-to-leading order accuracy
for the gluon fusion process, which includes QCD and electroweak corrections.
The gap survival probability () is also introduced to account for
the rescattering corrections due to spectator particles present in the
interaction, and to this end we compare two different models for the survival
factor. The diffractive ratios are predicted for proton-proton collisions at
the Tevatron and the LHC for the Higgs boson mass of = 120 GeV.
Therefore, our results provide updated estimations for the diffractive ratios
of the single diffractive production of the Higgs boson in the Tevatron and LHC
kinematical regimes.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures, 3 table
markovMSM: An R Package for Checking the Markov Condition in Multi-State Survival Data
Multi-state models can be used to describe processes in which an individual moves through a finite number of states in continuous time. These models allow a detailed view of the evolution or recovery of the process and can be used to study the effect of a vector of explanatory variables on the transition intensities or to obtain prediction probabilities of future events after a given event history. In both cases, before using these models, we have to evaluate whether the Markov assumption is tenable. This paper introduces the markovMSM package, a software application for R, which considers tests of the Markov assumption that are applicable to general multi-state models. Three approaches using existing methodology are considered: a simple method based on including covariates depending on the history; methods based on measuring the discrepancy of the non-Markov estimators of the transition probabilities to the Markovian Aalen-Johansen estimators; and, finally, methods that were developed by considering summaries from families of log-rank statistics where individuals are grouped by the state occupied by the process at a particular time point. The main functionalities of the markovMSM package are illustrated using real data examples. This research was financed by Portuguese Funds through FCT - "FundaĆ§Ć£o para a CiĆŖncia e a Tecnologia", within Projects projects UIDB/00013/2020, UIDP/00013/2020 and the research grant PD/BD/142887/2018
The N-Vortex Problem on a Symmetric Ellipsoid: A Perturbation Approach
We consider the N-vortex problem on a ellipsoid of revolution. Applying
standard techniques of classical perturbation theory we construct a sequence of
conformal transformations from the ellipsoid into the complex plane. Using
these transformations the equations of motion for the N-vortex problem on the
ellipsoid are written as a formal series on the eccentricity of the ellipsoid's
generating ellipse. First order equations are obtained explicitly. We show
numerically that the truncated first order system for the three-vortices system
on the symmetric ellipsoid is non-integrable.Comment: 14 pages, 1 figur
