    Observed flux density enhancement at submillimeter wavelengths during an X-class flare

    We analyse the 30 October, 2004, X1.2/SF solar event that occurred in AR 10691 (N13 W18) at around 11:44 UT. Observations at 212 and 405 GHz of the Solar Submillimeter Telescope (SST), with high time resolution (5 ms), show an intense impulsive burst followed by a long-lasting thermal phase. EUV images from the Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SOHO/EIT) are used to identify the possible emitting sources. Data from the Radio Solar Telescope Network (RSTN) complement our spectral observations below 15 GHz. During the impulsive phase the turnover frequency is above 15.4 GHz. The long-lasting phase is analysed in terms of thermal emission and compared with GOES observations. From the ratio between the two GOES soft X-ray bands, we derive the temperature and emission measure, which is used to estimate the free-free submillimeter flux density. Good temporal agreement is found between the estimated and observed profiles, however the former is larger than the latter.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figure

    Skuteczność leczenia niespecyficznego bólu dolnego odcinka kręgosłupa: metaanaliza randomizowanych badań kontrolowanych placebo

    Cel. Wyniki leczenia oceniane w randomizowanych badaniach kontrolowanych placebo są bardziej wiarygodne niż w badaniach o innej konstrukcji. Celem poniższej metaanalizy była ocena skuteczności różnych sposobów leczenia stosowanych w niespecyficznym bólu dolnego odcinka kręgosłupa na podstawie wyników randomizowanych badań kontrolowanych placebo. Metoda. Przeszukano bazy danych Medline, Embase, Cinahl, PsychInfo i Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials pod kątem odpowiednio dobranych badań — od najnowszych, do opublikowanych w październiku 2006 roku. Wyniki dotyczące bólu ciągłego przeliczono według wspólnej skali 0–100 i skomasowano z wykorzystaniem modelu losowego (random effects model). Wyniki. Analizą objęto 76 badań oceniających 34 sposoby leczenia. Istotne efekty wykazano w 50% ocenianych sposobów leczenia. W większości przypadków efekty były niewielkie lub umiarkowane: 47% wykazywało estymację punktową efektów leczenia poniżej 10 punktów w skali 100-punktowej, 38% — 10–20 punktów, a 15% — ponad 20 punktów. Tylko w jednym badaniu stwierdzono wyraźne efekty leczenia (> 20 pkt.). Wnioski. W poniższej metaanalizie dowiedziono, że efekt przeciwbólowy wielu sposobów leczenia niespecyficznego bólu dolnego odcinka kręgosłupa jest niewielki i nie różni się w populacjach z objawami ostrymi i przewlekłymi.     Static And Dynamic Properties Of Fibonacci Multilayers

    We theoretically investigate static and dynamic properties of quasiperiodic magnetic multilayers. We considered identical ferromagnetic layers separated by non-magnetic spacers with two different thicknesses chosen based on the Fibonacci sequence. Using parameters for Fe/Cr, the minimum energy was determined and the equilibrium magnetization directions found were used to calculate magnetoresistance curves. Regarding dynamic behavior, ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) curves were calculated using an approximation known from the literature.     Generation and characterization of a recombinant chimeric protein (rCpLi) consisting of B-cell epitopes of a dermonecrotic protein from Loxosceles intermedia spider venom

    AbstractA chimeric protein was constructed expressing three epitopes of LiD1, a dermonecrotic toxin from the venom of Loxosceles intermedia spider. This species is responsible for a large number of accidents involving spiders in Brazil. We demonstrated that the chimeric protein (rCpLi) generated is atoxic and that antibodies previously developed in rabbits against synthetic epitopes reactive with rCpLi in ELISA and immunoblot assays. The antibody response in rabbits against the rCpLi was evaluated by ELISA and we have detected an antibody response in all immunized animals. Overlapping peptides covering the amino acid sequence of the rCpLi were synthesized on a cellulose membrane, and their recognition by rabbit anti-rCpLi serum assessed. Three different antigenic regions were identified. The percentage of inhibition of the dermonecrotic, hemorrhagic and edematogenic activities caused by the recombinant protein LiD1r in naïve rabbits was assessed by pre-incubation with anti-rCpLi antibodies. Anti-rCpLi induced good dermonecrotic and hemorrhagic protection. The levels of protection were similar to the antiboides anti-LiD1r. In summary, we have developed a polyepitope recombinant chimeric protein capable of inducing multiple responses of neutralizing antibodies in a rabbit model. This engineered protein may be a promising candidate for therapeutic serum development or vaccination

    Thermal one- and two-graviton Green's functions in the temporal gauge

    The thermal one- and two-graviton Green's function are computed using a temporal gauge. In order to handle the extra poles which are present in the propagator, we employ an ambiguity-free technique in the imaginary-time formalism. For temperatures T high compared with the external momentum, we obtain the leading T^4 as well as the subleading T^2 and log(T) contributions to the graviton self-energy. The gauge fixing independence of the leading T^4 terms as well as the Ward identity relating the self-energy with the one-point function are explicitly verified. We also verify the 't Hooft identities for the subleading T^2 terms and show that the logarithmic part has the same structure as the residue of the ultraviolet pole of the zero temperature graviton self-energy. We explicitly compute the extra terms generated by the prescription poles and verify that they do not change the behavior of the leading and sub-leading contributions from the hard thermal loop region. We discuss the modification of the solutions of the dispersion relations in the graviton plasma induced by the subleading T^2 contributions.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures.     O programa de extensão universitária “Acolhe-Onco: interdisciplinaridade no cuidado integral ao paciente com câncer” destina-se não somente à promoção da saúde do paciente com câncer e de apoio à sua família, como também à formação interdisciplinar de estudantes da área da saúde. O presente relato de experiência descreve as bases ideativas e operacionais desse programa na Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) e os resultados obtidos no período entre agosto de 2008 a abril de 2013. A atividade de extensão universitária promove, para os estudantes, o aprendizado de princípios necessários para a humanização, integralidade e interdisciplinaridade das ações em saúde. Para os usuários, a extensão universitária tem proporcionado a consolidação de vínculos afetivos, a detecção e prevenção de situações de risco e a adoção de medidas que favoreçam a construção de habilidades para o autogerenciamento da doença.</p

    Cohort profile: the 100 million Brazilian cohort

    The creation of The 100 Million Brazilian Cohort was motivated by the availability of high quality but dispersed social and health databases in Brazil and the need to integrate data and evaluate the impact of policies aiming to improve the social determinants of health (e.g. social protection policies) on health outcomes, overall and in subgroups of interest in a dynamic cohort. • The baseline of The 100 Million Brazilian Cohort comprises 131 697 800 low-income individuals in 35 358 415 families from 2011 to 2018. The Cohort population is mostly composed of children and young adults, with a higher proportion of females than the general Brazilian population, who identify themselves as Brown and live in the urban area of the country. • Exposure to social protection and the follow-up of individuals are obtained through: (i) deterministic linkage using the Social Identification Number (NIS) to link the Cohort baseline to social protection programmes and to periodically renewed socioeconomic information in Cadatro U ́ nico datasets; and/or (ii) non-deterministic linkage using the CIDACS-RL non-deterministic linkage tool, to link the Cohort baseline to administrative health care datasets such as mortality (Mortality Information System, SIM), disease notification (Information System for Notifiable Diseases, SINAN), birth information (Live Birth Information System, SINASC) and nutrition status (Food and Nutrition Surveillance System, SISVAN). • So far, studies have used The 100 Million Brazilian Cohort to investigate the socioeconomic and demographic determinants of leprosy, leprosy treatment outcomes and low birthweight and to evaluate the impact of the Bolsa Familia Programme (BFP) on leprosy and child mortality. Other studies are now being conducted that are of utmost relevance to the health inequalities of Brazil and many low- and middle-income countries, and many research opportunities are being opened up with the linkage of a range of health outcomes
