Film handling procedures for Skylab S-056 experiment
In a simulation conducted August 28, 1972, two rolls of Type SO-212 film were rewound in the sensitometer darkroom preparatory to processing. The first roll contained approximately 500 feet of film exposed to a resolution target and was unloaded from a can. The second roll of 1000 feet, with about 600 feet advanced to the takeup side, was in a flight magazine. The downloading and rewinding of this second roll of film is described in detail
Review of machine washing efficiency for original film
Further silver sulfide stain tests for wash efficiency were conducted with major emphasis on means by which archival keeping quality may be achieved for original mission film
A luminosity monitor for the A4 parity violation experiment at MAMI
A water Cherenkov luminosity monitor system with associated electronics has
been developed for the A4 parity violation experiment at MAMI. The detector
system measures the luminosity of the hydrogen target hit by the MAMI electron
beam and monitors the stability of the liquid hydrogen target. Both is required
for the precise study of the count rate asymmetries in the scattering of
longitudinally polarized electrons on unpolarized protons. Any helicity
correlated fluctuation of the target density leads to false asymmetries. The
performance of the luminosity monitor, investigated in about 2000 hours with
electron beam, and the results of its application in the A4 experiment are
presented.Comment: 22 pages, 12 figures, submitted to NIM
Channel Sounding for the Masses: Low Complexity GNU 802.11b Channel Impulse Response Estimation
New techniques in cross-layer wireless networks are building demand for
ubiquitous channel sounding, that is, the capability to measure channel impulse
response (CIR) with any standard wireless network and node. Towards that goal,
we present a software-defined IEEE 802.11b receiver and CIR estimation system
with little additional computational complexity compared to 802.11b reception
alone. The system implementation, using the universal software radio peripheral
(USRP) and GNU Radio, is described and compared to previous work. By overcoming
computational limitations and performing direct-sequence spread-spectrum
(DS-SS) matched filtering on the USRP, we enable high-quality yet inexpensive
CIR estimation. We validate the channel sounder and present a drive test
campaign which measures hundreds of channels between WiFi access points and an
in-vehicle receiver in urban and suburban areas
Duplication train of SO-212 film for Skylab S-056 experiment
A section of film type SO-212 containing resolution targets was printed onto film type 5302 to produce a second generation master positive. This positive was then printed onto negative duplicating film type 5234. Samples and enlargements from sections of the film are presented. The original film is free of physical defects from this duplicating test. It has been demonstrated that SO-212 film can be duplicated without appreciable harm to the original
Wash efficiency tests
Processed film products were tested for residual thiosulfate by precipitation as colored silver sulfide. The quantity of thiosulfate was determined and correlated with the expected storage life of the film
Update on the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a highly prevalent, underdiagnosed, and undertreated chronic lung disease. Early and appropriate treatment may help modify the course of the disease with respect to exacerbation timing and frequency, quality of life, and mortality. Steady progress continues to be made in understanding the disease pathogenesis and treatment modalities, and there is some evidence that outcomes are improving
