    The simulated performance of GRANDProto300

GRANDProto300 is a 300-antenna prototype array of the envisioned GRAND (Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection) project. The goal of GRANDProto300 is to detect radio signals emitted by cosmic ray-induced air showers, with energies ranging from 1016.510^{16.5}~eV to 1018.510^{18.5}~eV, which covers the transition region between Galactic and extragalactic sources. We use simulations to optimize the layout of GRANDProto300 and develop a shower reconstruction method. Based on them, we present the performance of GRANDProto300 for cosmic-ray detection, by means of its effective area, angular resolution, and energy resolution.Comment: Presented at the 38th International Cosmic Ray Conference (ICRC 2023), 8 pages, 9 figure

First look at data from the 13-antenna setup of GRANDProto300 in northwest China

The Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection (GRAND) is an envisioned observatory of ultra-high-energy neutrinos, cosmic rays, and gamma rays, with energies above 100 PeV. GRAND targets the radio signals emitted by extensive air showers induced by the interaction of ultra-high-energy particles in the atmosphere, using an array of 200,000 radio antennas split into sub-arrays deployed worldwide. GRANDProto13 (GP13) is a 13-antenna demonstrator array deployed in February 2023 in the Gansu province of China, as a precursor for GRANDProto300, which will validate the detection principle of the GRAND experiment. Its goal is to measure the radio background present at the site, validate the design of the detection units and develop an autonomous radio trigger for air showers. We will describe GP13 and its operation, and show preliminary results on noise monitoring.Comment: Proceedings of the 38th International Cosmic Ray Conference (ICRC2023

The emerging role of deubiquitylating enzymes as therapeutic targets in cancer metabolism.

Cancer cells must rewire cellular metabolism to satisfy the unbridled proliferation, and metabolic reprogramming provides not only the advantage for cancer cell proliferation but also new targets for cancer treatment. However, the plasticity of the metabolic pathways makes them very difficult to target. Deubiquitylating enzymes (DUBs) are proteases that cleave ubiquitin from the substrate proteins and process ubiquitin precursors. While the molecular mechanisms are not fully understood, many DUBs have been shown to be involved in tumorigenesis and progression via controlling the dysregulated cancer metabolism, and consequently recognized as potential drug targets for cancer treatment. In this article, we summarized the significant progress in understanding the key roles of DUBs in cancer cell metabolic rewiring and the opportunities for the application of DUBs inhibitors in cancer treatment, intending to provide potential implications for both research purpose and clinical applications

Cold quark matter in a quasiparticle model: thermodynamic consistency and stellar properties

The strong coupling in the effective quark mass was usually taken as a constant in a quasiparticle model while it is, in fact, running with an energy scale. With a running coupling, however, the thermodynamic inconsistency problem appears in the conventional treatment. We show that the renormalization subtraction point should be taken as a function of the summation of the biquadratic chemical potentials if the quark's current masses vanish, in order to ensure full thermodynamic consistency. Taking the simplest form, we study the properties of up-down (udud) quark matter, and confirm that the revised quasiparticle model fulfills the quantitative criteria for thermodynamic consistency. Moreover, we find that the maximum mass of an udud quark star can be larger than two times the solar mass, reaching up to 2.31M⊙2.31M_{\odot}, for reasonable model parameters. However, to further satisfy the upper limit of tidal deformability Λ~1.4≤580\tilde{\Lambda}_{1.4}\leq 580 observed in the event GW170817, the maximum mass of an udud quark star can only be as large as 2.08M⊙2.08M_{\odot}, namely Mmax≲2.08M⊙M_{\text{max}}\lesssim2.08M_{\odot}. In other words, our results indicate that the measured tidal deformability for event GW170817 places an upper bound on the maximum mass of udud quark stars, but which does not rule out the possibility of the existence of quark stars composed of udud quark matter, with a mass of about two times the solar mass.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figure

Counting and analyzing of blood cells, as well as their subcellular structures, are indispensable for understanding biological processes, studying cell functions, and diagnosing diseases. In this paper, we combine digital holographic microscopy with cell segmentation guided by the Sobel operator using Dice coefficients for automatic threshold selection and aimed to automatic counting and analysis of blood cells in flow and different kinds of cells in the static state. We demonstrate the proposed method with automatic counting and analyzing rat red blood cells (RBCS) flowing in a microfluidic device, extracting quickly and accurately the size, concentration, and dry mass of the sample in a label-free manner. The proposed technique was also demonstrated for automatic segmentation of different cell types, such as COS7 and Siha. This method can help us in blood inspection, providing pathological information in disease diagnosis and treatment

Study of the Global Alignment for the DAMPE Detector

The Dark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) is designed as a high energy particle detector for probing cosmic-rays and γ−\gamma-rays in a wide energy range. The trajectory of the incident particle is mainly measured by the Silicon-Tungsten tracKer-converter (STK) sub-detector, which heavily depends on the precise internal alignment correction as well as the accuracy of the global coordinate system. In this work, we carried out a global alignment method to validate the potential displacement of these sub-detectors, and particularly demonstrated that the track reconstruction of STK can well satisfy the required objectives by means of comparing flight data and simulations.Comment: 18 pages, 11 figure

Antidiabetic retinopathy effect of Fufang Danshen Mingmu in rats

    Get PDF
Purpose: To investigate the effect of Fufang Danshen Mingmu (FDM) on streptozotocin-induced diabetic retinopathy rats. Methods: Diabetic retinopathy model rats were prepared using a single intraperitoneal injection of a freshly prepared solution of streptozotocin (50 mg/kg). The rats were randomly divided into 6 groups of ten rats each: negative control group, control group, reference group (glibenclamide, 1 mg/kg) as well as FDM groups, (50, 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight). Blood glucose and plasma insulin levels were determined. Oxidative stress was evaluated in liver and kidney as lipid peroxidation (LPO), superoxide dismutase (SOD), reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT). Blood serum levels of creatinine and urea were determined in both diabetic control and treated rats. Results: Compared with diabetic rats, oral administration of FDM at a dose of 200 mg/kg daily for 30 days resulted in a significant decrease in fasting blood glucose (120.21 ± 3.37 mg/dL, p < 0.05) and increased insulin level (13.31 ± 0.67 uU/mL, p < 0.05).  Furthermore, it significantly reduced biochemical parameters (serum creatinine, 0.86 ±0.24 mg/dL, p < 0.05) and serum urea 41.86±1.59 mg/dL, p <0.05).Conclusion: The results indicate that FDM normalizes impaired antioxidant status in streptozotocin induced diabetic retinopathy rats, and also exerts a protective effect against lipid peroxidation by scavenging free radicals
