A new paradigm for tourism development in North Korea
The cooperative tourism project between South Korea and North had been an icon of the promotion of peace. However, the North Korean soldierās shooting on a female Korean tourist in 2008 suspended the project that shuttled Korean tourists to Mt. Kumgang resort in North. After such an incident, Kim Jong-un has taken his office, attempting attacks on South Korean territories and conducting nuclear weapon experiments. Consequently, all cooperative projects have been suspended. However, some scholars said that tourism is still a very powerful mean to promote peace between divided nations. The aim of this research is to provide a theoretical framework for facilitating tourism development in North Korea and difficulties by conducting an in-depth interview with visitors to North Korea
Pkc-Mediated Stimulation of Amphibian Cftr Depends on a Single Phosphorylation Consensus Site. Insertion of This Site Confers Pkc Sensitivity to Human Cftr
Mutations of the CFTR, a phosphorylation-regulated Clā channel, cause cystic fibrosis. Activation of CFTR by PKA stimulation appears to be mediated by a complex interaction between several consensus phosphorylation sites in the regulatory domain (R domain). None of these sites has a critical role in this process. Here, we show that although endogenous phosphorylation by PKC is required for the effect of PKA on CFTR, stimulation of PKC by itself has only a minor effect on human CFTR. In contrast, CFTR from the amphibians Necturus maculosus and Xenopus laevis (XCFTR) can be activated to similar degrees by stimulation of either PKA or PKC. Furthermore, the activation of XCFTR by PKC is independent of the net charge of the R domain, and mutagenesis experiments indicate that a single site (Thr665) is required for the activation of XCFTR. Human CFTR lacks the PKC phosphorylation consensus site that includes Thr665, but insertion of an equivalent site results in a large activation upon PKC stimulation. These observations establish the presence of a novel mechanism of activation of CFTR by phosphorylation of the R domain, i.e., activation by PKC requires a single consensus phosphorylation site and is unrelated to the net charge of the R domain
X-ray Absorption Near-Edge Structure calculations with pseudopotentials. Application to K-edge in diamond and alpha-quartz
We present a reciprocal-space pseudopotential scheme for calculating X-ray
absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectra. The scheme incorporates a
recursive method to compute absorption cross section as a continued fraction.
The continued fraction formulation of absorption is advantageous in that it
permits the treatment of core-hole interaction through large supercells
(hundreds of atoms). The method is compared with recently developed
Bethe-Salpeter approach. The method is applied to the carbon K-edge in diamond
and to the silicon and oxygen K-edges in alpha-quartz for which polarized XANES
spectra were measured. Core-hole effects are investigated by varying the size
of the supercell, thus leading to information similar to that obtained from
cluster size analysis usually performed within multiple scattering

A simulation study on the measurement of D0-D0bar mixing parameter y at BES-III
We established a method on measuring the \dzdzb mixing parameter for
BESIII experiment at the BEPCII collider. In this method, the doubly
tagged events, with one decays to
CP-eigenstates and the other decays semileptonically, are used to
reconstruct the signals. Since this analysis requires good separation,
a likelihood approach, which combines the , time of flight and the
electromagnetic shower detectors information, is used for particle
identification. We estimate the sensitivity of the measurement of to be
0.007 based on a fully simulated MC sample.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figure
Observation of nonrelativistic plaid-like spin splitting in a noncoplanar antiferromagnet
Spatial, momentum and energy separation of electronic spins in condensed
matter systems guides the development of novel devices where spin-polarized
current is generated and manipulated. Recent attention on a set of previously
overlooked symmetry operations in magnetic materials leads to the emergence of
a new type of spin splitting besides the well-studied Zeeman, Rashba and
Dresselhaus effects, enabling giant and momentum dependent spin polarization of
energy bands on selected antiferromagnets independent of relativistic
spin-orbit interaction. Despite the ever-growing theoretical predictions, the
direct spectroscopic proof of such spin splitting is still lacking. Here, we
provide solid spectroscopic and computational evidence for the existence of
such materials. In the noncoplanar antiferromagnet MnTe, the in-plane
components of spin are found to be antisymmetric about the high-symmetry planes
of the Brillouin zone, comprising a plaid-like spin texture in the
antiferromagnetic ground state. Such an unconventional spin pattern, further
found to diminish at the high-temperature paramagnetic state, stems from the
intrinsic antiferromagnetic order instead of the relativistic spin-orbit
coupling. Our finding demonstrates a new type of spin-momentum locking with a
nonrelativistic origin, placing antiferromagnetic spintronics on a firm basis
and paving the way for studying exotic quantum phenomena in related materials.Comment: Version 2, 30 pages, 4 main figures and 8 supporting figure
Well Water Arsenic Exposure, Arsenic Induced Skin-Lesions and Self-Reported Morbidity in Inner Mongolia
Residents of the Bayingnormen region of Inner Mongolia have been exposed to arsenic-contaminated well water for over 20 years, but relatively few studies have investigated health effects in this region. We surveyed one village to document exposure to arsenic and assess the prevalence of arsenic-associated skin lesions and self-reported morbidity. Five-percent (632) of the 12,334 residents surveyed had skin lesions characteristics of arsenic exposure. Skin lesions were strongly associated with well water arsenic and there was an elevated prevalence among residents with water arsenic exposures as low as 5 Ī¼g/L-10 Ī¼g/L. The presence of skin lesions was also associated with self-reported cardiovascular disease
