    Get PDF
This paper deals about developing a microcontroller based two-axis robot for human hand physiotherapy for the treatment of paralyzed patients. The interactive two-axis motion robot is designed to fit around patient’s arm and work with the patient to reestablish movements of hand by gently moving it in desired direction. The robot moves the patients hand up and down, left and right using servo motor interfaced with it. The motor is controlled by switching ON/OFF the stator winding. The microcontroller generates the switching pulses of the motor; the angular distance and movements are programmable through keys. The robot actively moves the non-responsive body parts allowing it to be a useful tool in all steps of rehabilitation. Note to Practitioners-Compared with cable-driven humanoid arm, a cable less robot is more accurate because a cable driven robot has some drawbacks due to the mismatch of connections. If the connections are mishandled, there is a chance to occur any severe damages. The main drawback is more expensive, very difficult to maintain and clean. This drawback can be rectified by the proposed method. The main feature of this robot is its mobility function

Manufacturing systems have evolved rapidly since their inception and this transformation is expected to continue in a pursuit of optimum utility. A fixed sequence of machine tools connected by an automated material handling system for mass production of a small family of complex parts (several million parts per year). Bottelnecks have several benefits. They require less manpower and space. They ensure low work in progress and lower lead time. Bottelnecks are employed for mass production of a fixed product or a very narrow range of product variants. This paper discuss about different bottleneck balancing problem, process planning and line configuration. For optimize bottleneck is must to be design features of the product are grouped and machining operations are sequenced in an optimal manner. The objective is to find out problem and possible solution on the handling time fraction of the cycle time consisting mainly of orientation change time and tool change time in different bottleneck sequencing, which is used by industrial production

Stereo matching is the basic problem to achieve human like vision capability to machines and robots. Stereo vision researches produced many local and global algorithms for stereo correspondence matching. There are two popular methods one is rectangular window-based cost aggregation another is circular window-based cost aggregation used for solving correspondence problem have attracted researches as it can be implemented in real time using parallel processors. In this paper we have done comparative study between rectangular windows and circular windows based disparity map by stereo matching. Motivated by human stereo vision, the technique uses to enhance the strategy of finding the best match to compute dense disparity map. Performance of the both method is efficient

A Wearable Glove for Measuring Fingers Flexion to Identify Specific Hand Gestures Using Flex Sensors

    Get PDF
This paper presents a special method of communication for the speech impaired people and other patients using their hand gestures. A microcontroller based system has been developed for measuring fingers flexion to identify specific hand gestures using flex sensors. The system is made wearable and has been deployed on a glove. To measure the fingers flexion for a specific hand gesture five flex sensors are tailored for each finger on the glove. These flex sensors produce signals corresponding to different hand gestures and finger movements. Flex sensors simply change their resistance values according to the degree of bend angle made. They convert the change in bend to electrical resistance-the more the bend, the more is the resistance value. The system has been built around a widely used eight bit microcontroller ATMega328P that has a built-in 10-bit multiplexed channel Analog-to-Digital Converter for the signal conditioning purpose. The important factors while designing a glove is the calibration, the finger size, height and thickness varies from patient to patient and these inaccurate measurements of parameter leads to overlapping of the sign

Purpose In this study, we conducted quantitative analysis of 1706 scholarly literature published in Journal of Documentation during the period of 1970 to 2019 (fifty years) using a series of scientometric indicators. Annual scientific production, most local cited sources, the ranking of authors; profiles, contributions, correlation, collaboration and authorship pattern, most contributed countries, most cited articles, frequently used search terms/keywords, and the legend of historiographic mapping were analysed in detail to measure the impact of the source. Design/methodology/approach We used the Scopus database for retrieving the desired sample data. In total, 1,706 numbers of publications records were considered for the literature analysis considering their relevancy. Biblioshiny data visualization tool is used to create the various maps. Findings The present study found that annual scientific production and average citations constantly have had an uptrend. The journal\u27s had tremendous impact with an h-index of 80, with a g-index of 148, total citations of 37,161 within the studied period. Although Bawden D contributed the highest number of research papers (n=78), the work published by Hjørland B received the highest citations. Lotka\u27s Law reveals that about 75.04% of the authors (1319 authors) have one publication, and approximately 12.73% of the authors (225 authors) have two publications. The United Kingdom was the dominant country in terms of number of papers and citation count whereas University of Sheffield topped with 128 publications. The thematic map consists of eleven clusters and ‘information retrieval’ found to be the largest cluster comprehending 56 subthemes occurring 995 times. Get PDF
The last years have seen a steep rise in data generation worldwide, with the development and widespread adoption of several software projects targeting the Big Data paradigm. Many companies currently engage in Big Data analytics as part of their core business activities, nonetheless there are no tools and techniques to support the design of the underlying hardware configuration backing such systems. In particular, the focus in this report is set on Cloud deployed clusters, which represent a cost-effective alternative to on premises installations. We propose a novel tool implementing a battery of optimization and prediction techniques integrated so as to efficiently assess several alternative resource configurations, in order to determine the minimum cost cluster deployment satisfying QoS constraints. Further, the experimental campaign conducted on real systems shows the validity and relevance of the proposed method
