Higher Spin Black Holes from CFT
Higher spin gravity in three dimensions has explicit black holes solutions,
carrying higher spin charge. We compute the free energy of a charged black hole
from the holographic dual, a 2d CFT with extended conformal symmetry, and find
exact agreement with the bulk thermodynamics. In the CFT, higher spin
corrections to the free energy can be calculated at high temperature from
correlation functions of W-algebra currents.Comment: 24 pages; v2 reference adde
The Heat Kernel on
We explicitly evaluate the heat kernel for the Laplacian of arbitrary spin
tensor fields on the thermal quotient of (Euclidean) for
using the group theoretic techniques employed for in arXiv:0911.5085.
Our approach is general and can be used, in principle, for other quotients as
well as other symmetric spaces.Comment: Added references, added appendix on heat kernel in even dimensio
Higher Spin Gravity with Matter in AdS_3 and Its CFT Dual
We study Vasiliev's system of higher spin gauge fields coupled to massive
scalars in AdS_3, and compute the tree level two and three point functions.
These are compared to the large N limit of the W_N minimal model, and
nontrivial agreements are found. We propose a modified version of the
conjecture of Gaberdiel and Gopakumar, under which the bulk theory is
perturbatively dual to a subsector of the CFT that closes on the sphere.Comment: 58 pages; typos corrected, references adde
Hidden Conformal Symmetry of the Reissner-Nordstr{\o}m Black Holes
Motivated by recent progresses in the holographic descriptions of the Kerr
and Reissner-Nordstr{\o}m (RN) black holes, we explore the hidden conformal
symmetry of nonextremal uplifted 5D RN black hole by studying the near horizon
wave equation of a massless scalar field propagating in this background.
Similar to the Kerr black hole case, this hidden symmetry is broken by the
periodicity of the associated angle coordinate in the background geometry, but
the results somehow testify the dual CFT description of the nonextremal RN
black holes. The duality is further supported by matching of the entropies and
absorption cross sections calculated from both CFT and gravity sides.Comment: 14 pages, no figur
Short-cut to new anomalies in gravity duals to logarithmic conformal field theories
Various massive gravity theories in three dimensions are conjecturally dual
to logarithmic conformal field theories (LCFTs). We summarise the status of
these conjectures. LCFTs are characterised by the values of the central charges
and the so-called "new anomalies". We employ a short-cut to calculate these new
anomalies in generalised massive gravity and in the recently proposed
higher-derivative gravity theories with holographic c-theorem. Both cases
permit LCFTs exhibiting intriguing features, like rank three Jordan cells or
non-zero central charges. Finally, as an example we discuss in some detail the
partially massless version of new massive gravity, a theory with several
special properties that we call "partially massless gravity".Comment: 34 pages, 2 figures; v2: added references; v3: Several rewordings in

Catalytic Roles of Flexible Regions at the Active Site of Ribulose-Bisphosphate Carboxylase/Oxygenase (Rubisco)
Chemical and mutagenesis studies of Rubisco have identified Lys329 and Glu48 as active-site residues that are located in distinct, interacting domains from adjacent subunits. Crystallographic analyses have shown that Lys329 is the apical residue in a 12-residue flexible loop (loop 6) of the {Beta},{alpha}-barrel domain of the active site and that Glu48 resides at the end of helix B of the N-terminal domain of the active site. When phosphorylated ligands are bound by the enzyme, loop 6 adopts a closed conformation and, in concert with repositioning of helix B, thereby occludes the active site from the external environment. In this closed conformation, the {gamma}-carboxylate of Glu48 and the {epsilon}-amino group of Lys329 engage in intersubunit electrostatic interaction. By use of appropriate site-directed mutants of Rhodospirillum rubrum Rubisco, we are addressing several issues: the catalytic roles of Lys329 and Glu48, the functional significance of the intersubunit salt bridge comprised of these two residues, and the roles of loop 6 and helix B in stabilizing labile reaction intermediates. Characterization of novel products derived from misprocessing of D-ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP) by the mutant proteins have illuminated the structure of the key intermediate in the normal oxygenase pathway
Holographic Dual of Linear Dilaton Black Hole in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion Gravity
Motivated by the recently proposed Kerr/CFT correspondence, we investigate
the holographic dual of the extremal and non-extremal rotating linear dilaton
black hole in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion Gravity. For the case of extremal
black hole, by imposing the appropriate boundary condition at spatial infinity
of the near horizon extremal geometry, the Virasoro algebra of conserved
charges associated with the asymptotic symmetry group is obtained. It is shown
that the microscopic entropy of the dual conformal field given by Cardy formula
exactly agrees with Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of extremal black hole. Then, by
rewriting the wave equation of massless scalar field with sufficient low energy
as the SL(2, R)SL(2, R) Casimir operator, we find the hidden
conformal symmetry of the non-extremal linear dilaton black hole, which implies
that the non-extremal rotating linear dilaton black hole is holographically
dual to a two dimensional conformal field theory with the non-zero left and
right temperatures. Furthermore, it is shown that the entropy of non-extremal
black hole can be reproduced by using Cardy formula.Comment: 15 pages, no figure, published versio
Holographic Duals of Near-extremal Reissner-Nordstrom Black Holes
We consider the description of
Reissner-Nordstr{\o}m black holes by studying their uplifted counterparts in
five dimensions. Assuming a natural size of the extra dimension, the near
horizon geometries for the extremal limit are exactly . We compute the scattering amplitude of a scalar field, with a
mode near threshold of frequency and extra dimensional momentum, by a near
extremal uplifted black hole. The absorption cross section agrees with the two
point function of the CFT dual to the scalar field.Comment: reference added, improper statements corrected, 17 pages, no figure
On Holographic description of the Kerr-Newman-AdS-dS black holes
In this paper, we study the holographic description of the generic
four-dimensional non-extremal Kerr-Newman-AdS-dS black holes. We find that if
focusing on the near-horizon region, for the massless scalar scattering in the
low-frequency limit, there exists hidden conformal symmetry on the solution
space. Similar to the Kerr case, this suggests that the Kerr-Newman-AdS-dS
black hole is dual to a two-dimensional CFT with central charges
and temperatures
. The macroscopic Bekenstein-Hawking
entropy could be recovered from the microscopic counting in dual CFT via the
Cardy formula. Using the Minkowski prescription, we compute the real-time
correlators of the scalar, photon and graviton in near horizon geometry of near
extremal Kerr-AdS-dS black hole. In all these cases, the retarded Green's
function and the corresponding absorption cross section are in perfect match
with CFT prediction. We further discuss the low-frequency scattering of a
charged scalar by a Kerr-Newman-AdS-dS black hole and find the dual CFT
description.Comment: 22 pages; minor corrections, conlusion unchanged, references

String Theory on Warped AdS_3 and Virasoro Resonances
We investigate aspects of holographic duals to time-like warped AdS_3
space-times--which include G\"odel's universe--in string theory. Using
worldsheet techniques similar to those that have been applied to AdS_3
backgrounds, we are able to identify space-time symmetry algebras that act on
the dual boundary theory. In particular, we always find at least one Virasoro
algebra with computable central charge. Interestingly, there exists a dense set
of points in the moduli space of these models in which there is actually a
second commuting Virasoro algebra, typically with different central charge than
the first. We analyze the supersymmetry of the backgrounds, finding related
enhancements, and comment on possible interpretations of these results. We also
perform an asymptotic symmetry analysis at the level of supergravity, providing
additional support for the worldsheet analysis.Comment: 24 pages + appendice
