    Specific loss of chondromodulin-I gene expression in chondrosarcoma and the suppression of tumor angiogenesis and growth by its recombinant protein in vivo

    AbstractChondromodulin-I (ChM-I) was previously identified as an angiogenesis inhibitor in cartilage. Here, we demonstrated that the level of ChM-I transcripts was substantially reduced to 100 or even less in the lower-grade chondrosarcomas, in articular cartilage or other benign cartilage tumors. We implanted human chondrosarcoma OUMS-27 cells into nude mice that reproducibly produced tumors with cartilaginous matrix. Tumor-induced angiogenesis was evident when the tumors were excised 30 days after implantation. However, the local administration of recombinant human ChM-I almost completely blocked vascular invasion and tumor growth in vivo. Moreover, ChM-I also inhibited the growth of HT-29 colon adenocarcinoma in vivo, implying its therapeutic potential for solid tumors

    笑気吸入鎮静法(IS)は不安,恐怖心の強い患者,知的障害者,内部障害等を有する患者などに応用される精神鎮静法である.動脈圧は圧受容器反射により維持・調整されているが,亜酸化窒素(N2O)吸入が圧受容器反射感受性(BRS)に影響するかは不明である.そこで,IS中に連続血圧と,マイクロニューログラフィーを用いて筋交感神経活動(Muscle Sympathetic Nerve Activity:MSNA)を同時測定し,動脈圧の変動に対する末梢血管調節性交感神経活動の変化量からBRSを検証した.健常成人男性10名[31±2歳]を対象に,水平仰臥位でルームエアー,100%酸素(O2),30%N2O,40%N2Oをそれぞれ20分間吸入した後,各条件下で心拍数(HR),心拍出量(CO),1回拍出量(SV),連続血圧およびMSNAを5分間測定した.さらに,O2を20分間吸入した後に回復期を設け,ルームエアーで5分間同様の測定をした.BRSの評価のために,まず,連続血圧の拡張期血圧(DBP)を3mmHgごとにグルーピングを行い,各グループのDBP平均値をDBPの代表値とし,100拍あたりのMSNAのバースト数(BI)とバースト面積(Total MSNA)をMSNA代表値とした.各グループのDBPとBIおよびTotal MSNA代表値から求めた直線回帰の傾きを交感神経性圧受容器反射感受性(sBRS)とした.各IS条件間でHR,CO,血圧に差はなかった.また,DBPとBIおよびTotal MSNAで求めたsBRSは両者ともIS濃度による変動を示さなかった.以上から,笑気吸入中に圧受容器反射のオペレーティングポイント,感受性とも維持されることが示唆された.2019博士(歯学)松本歯科大

    Precise Measurement of Cosmic-Ray Proton and Helium Spectra with the BESS Spectrometer

    We report cosmic-ray proton and helium spectra in energy ranges of 1 to 120 GeV and 1 to 54 GeV/nucleon, respectively, measured by a balloon flight of the BESS spectrometer in 1998. The magnetic-rigidity of the cosmic-rays was reliably determined by highly precise measurement of the circular track in a uniform solenoidal magnetic field of 1 Tesla. Those spectra were determined within overall uncertainties of +-5 % for protons and +- 10 % for helium nuclei including statistical and systematic errors.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure

    The energy spectra of cosmic-ray low-energy antiprotons and protons have been measured by BESS in 1999 and 2000, during a period covering the solar magnetic field reversal. Based on these measurements, a sudden increase of the antiproton to proton flux ratio following the solar magnetic field reversal was observed, and it generally agrees with a drift model of the solar modulation.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, revised version accepted for publication in Phys.     Diversity and host associations of parasitoids attacking mycophagous drosophilids (Diptera: Drosophilidae) in northern and central Japan

    The diversity and host associations of parasitoids attacking mycophagous drosophilids were studied in Tokyo (a warm-temperate region) and Sapporo (a cool-temperate region) in Japan. Field collections were carried out using traps baited with mushrooms in May, June, September and October 2009 in Tokyo and in July and August 2010 in Sapporo. The major drosophilid species that emerged from mushroom baits was Drosophila bizonata in Tokyo and D.orientacea in Sapporo. In total, 13 parasitoid species emerged from drosophilids occurring in mushroom baits, and 11 of them were larval parasitoids belonging to Braconidae and Figitidae. Among the 11 larval parasitoids, 10 were collected in Tokyo, while only two were collected in Sapporo. It is not known why their diversity differed so much between these two regions. Four of the 11 larval parasitoids have also been recorded from drosophilid larvae occurring in fruit (banana). The use of these two habitats (mushrooms and fruit) by these four species seems to reflect the occurrence (i.e. resource use) of their suitable hosts. On the other hand, most larval parasitoids from Tokyo attacked D.bizonata, and two larval parasitoids from Sapporo attacked D.orientacea, suggesting that the abundance of potential hosts is one of the important factors affecting their host use

    Kerr effect microscope combined with a pulse magnet to observe high-entropy alloys fabricated using combinatorial technology

    We developed a module-type two-dimensional (2D) polar Kerr effect microscope using a pulse magnet with a pulse width of 13 ms and a maximum magnetic field of 7 kOe to accelerate the development of new soft magnetic materials. We also developed an algorithm and method to extract still images from a measurement movie file when the pulse magnetic field is applied. To evaluate the performance of this instrument, we measured high-entropy alloys based on FeCoMn samples, which were screened and selected using material informatics. Samples obtained through depositing Pt, Zn, Cu, and Ru on high-entropy FeCoMn alloys exhibited a brightness distribution proportional to the Kerr rotation angle in the applied magnetic field. The developed instrument enabled the high-speed magnetic field mapping of composition-spread thin films and is expected to accelerate new material development
