Mental Health Issues of Japanese Elementary School Teachers: The Effects of the Japanese Classroom Management Style
Teachers in Japan face work-related mental health issues, such as depression and adjustment disorders. The number of elementary school teachers taking leave of absence due to mental illness has been increasing every year and is high according to international standards. One of the reasons for this was the workload on a single teacher, resulting in long working hours. The authors believe that the reason for long working hours may be the Japanese classroom management style. This chapter compares the Japanese classroom management style of elementary school teachers with the classroom management styles of other countries, such as India, and discusses the reasons for the long working hours under the Japanese classroom management style
Isolation of an X-factor-dependent but porphyrin-positive Escherichia coli from urine of a patient with hemorrhagic cystitis
An Escherichia coli isolate was recovered from a 92-year-old female patient with urinary tract infection. Gram-stained preparation of the urine sediment manifested some gram-negative rod-shaped cells, and the urine specimen culture yielded nonhemolytic colonies on sheep blood agar plate. However, no visible colonies appeared on modified Drigalski agar plate. The isolate was finally identified as an X-factor-dependent E. coli. The interesting finding was that the isolate revealed a positive reaction for porphyrin test despite the requirement of hemin. This finding suggested that some pyrrol-ring-containing porphyrin compounds or fluorescent porphyrins had been produced as chemical intermediates in the synthetic pathway from delta-amino-levulinic acid (ALA), although the isolate should be devoid of synthesizing hems from ALA. This was the first clinical isolation of such a strain, indicating that the E. coli isolate should possess incomplete synthetic pathways of hems from ALA.ArticleJOURNAL OF INFECTION AND CHEMOTHERAPY. 19(4):764-766 (2013)journal articl
Synthesis of Arecatannin A1 from Dimeric Epicatechin Electrophile
Synthesis of arrecatarmin A1 (1) was accomplished from dimeric epicatechin electrophile, which was prepared by Zn(OTf)(2) mediated self-condensation, and monomeric catechin nucleophile. The condensation was successfully worked using Yb(OTf)(3) as a Lewis acid in good yield.ArticleNATURAL PRODUCT COMMUNICATIONS. 10(6):959-962 (2015)journal articl
Syntheses of procyanidin B2 and B3 gallate derivatives using equimolar condensation mediated by Yb(OTf)(3) and their antitumor activities
Synthesis of procyanidin B2 and B3 gallate derivatives, 3-O-gallate, 3 ''-O-gallate, and 3,3 ''-di-O-gallate, were synthesized using equimolar condensation mediated by Yb(OTf)(3). Synthesized compounds showed significant antitumor effects against human prostate PC-3 cell lines. Their activities were weaker than well-known EGCG and prodelphinidin B3.ArticleBIOORGANIC & MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY LETTERS. 23(17):4935-4939 (2013)journal articl
Distance to Orion KL Measured with VERA
We present the initial results of multi-epoch VLBI observations of the 22 GHz
H2O masers in the Orion KL region with VERA (VLBI Exploration of Radio
Astrometry). With the VERA dual-beam receiving system, we have carried out
phase-referencing VLBI astrometry and successfully detected an annual parallax
of Orion KL to be 2.29+/-0.10 mas, corresponding to the distance of 437+/-19 pc
from the Sun. The distance to Orion KL is determined for the first time with
the annual parallax method in these observations. Although this value is
consistent with that of the previously reported, 480+/-80 pc, which is
estimated from the statistical parallax method using proper motions and radial
velocities of the H2O maser features, our new results provide the much more
accurate value with an uncertainty of only 4%. In addition to the annual
parallax, we have detected an absolute proper motion of the maser feature,
suggesting an outflow motion powered by the radio source I along with the
systematic motion of source I itself.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures. PASJ, in press (Vol. 59, No. 5, October 25, 2007

Absolute Proper Motions of H2O Masers Away from the Galactic Plane Measured with VERA in the "Superbubble" Region NGC 281
We report on absolute proper-motion measurements of an H2O maser source in
the NGC 281 West molecular cloud, which is located ~320 pc above the Galactic
plane and is associated with an HI loop extending from the Galactic plane. We
have conducted multi-epoch phase-referencing observations of the maser source
with VERA (VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry) over a monitoring period of 6
months since May 2006. We find that the H2O maser features in NGC 281 West are
systematically moving toward the southwest and further away from the Galactic
plane with a vertical velocity of ~20-30 km/s at its estimated distance of
2.2-3.5 kpc. Our new results provide the most direct evidence that the gas in
the NGC 281 region on the HI loop was blown out from the Galactic plane, most
likely in a superbubble driven by multiple or sequential supernova explosions
in the Galactic plane.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, PASJ in press (Vol. 59, No. 4; August 25, 2007
