Stau relic density at the Big-Bang nucleosynthesis era consistent with the abundance of the light element nuclei in the coannihilation scenario
We calculate the relic density of stau at the beginning of the Big-Bang
Nucleosynthesis (BBN) era in the coannihilation scenario of minimal
supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). In this scenario, stau can be long-lived
and form bound states with nuclei. We put constraints on the parameter space of
MSSM by connecting the calculation of the relic density of stau to the
observation of the light elements abundance, which strongly depends on the
relic density of stau. Consistency between the theoretical prediction and the
observational result, both of the dark matter abundance and the light elements
abundance, requires the mass difference between the lighter stau and the
lightest neutralino to be around 100MeV, the stau mass to be 300 -- 400 GeV,
and the mixing angle of the left and right-handed staus to be

Possible solution to the Li problem by the long lived stau
Modification of standard big-bang nucleosynthesis is considered in the
minimal supersymmetric standard model to resolve the excessive theoretical
prediction of the abundance of primordial lithium 7. We focus on the stau as a
next-lightest superparticle, which is long lived due to its small mass
difference with the lightest superparticle. It provides a number of additional
decay processes of and . A particularly
important process is the internal conversion in the stau-nucleus bound state,
which destroys the and effectively. We show
that the modification can lead to a prediction consistent with the observed
abundance of .Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
Big-bang nucleosynthesis with a long-lived charged massive particle including He spallation processes
We propose helium-4 spallation processes induced by long-lived stau in
supersymmetric standard models, and investigate an impact of the processes on
light elements abundances. We show that, as long as the phase space of helium-4
spallation processes is open, they are more important than stau-catalyzed
fusion and hence constrain the stau property.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, 1 table, references added, all figures correcte
Endobronchial Ultrasound Doppler Image Features Correlate with mRNA Expression of hif1-α and vegf-c in Patients with Non–Small-Cell Lung Cancer
IntroductionWe attempted to assess the correlation between the Doppler mode image patterns during endobronchial ultrasound-guided (EBUS) transbronchial needle aspiration and the expression of angiogenesis-related molecules within lymph nodes in patients with non–small-cell lung cancer.MethodsThirty-eight archived EBUS- transbronchial needle aspiration samples of lymph nodes (27 metastatic and 11 nonmetastatic) in patients with non–small-cell lung cancer with Doppler mode ultrasound image were analyzed. The Doppler mode image of the vasculature of the targeted lymph node was categorized into the following groups: normal blood flow, low blood flow (LBF), and high blood flow (HBF). Vascular index ratio (vascular area/lymph node area) of each metastatic lymph node was calculated. Total RNA and protein was extracted and analyzed for expression of HIF-1α, VEGF-A, and VEGF-C by quantitative RT-PCR and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.ResultsWithin the 27 metastatic lymph nodes, eight were categorized into the LBF group and 19 into the HBF group. Vascular index ratio was significantly higher in HBF than LBF (p = 0.0003). mRNA expression of HIF-1α and VEGF-A was significantly higher in metastatic lymph nodes than in benign lymph nodes (p < 0.0001). Compared with LBF and HBF, HIF-1α mRNA expression was significantly higher in LBF (p = 0.01) and VEGF-C mRNA expression was significantly higher in HBF (p = 0.0315). There was no significant difference in protein expression by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay analysis.ConclusionsThe vascularity of metastatic lymph nodes observed by EBUS correlates with the mRNA expression of HIF-1α and VEGF-C (not VEGF-A). This correlation is a clinical utility that needs to be evaluated further

Diffusion and activation of n-type dopants in germanium
The diffusion and activation of -type impurities (P and As) implanted into
-type Ge(100) substrates were examined under various dose and annealing
conditions. The secondary ion mass spectrometry profiles of chemical
concentrations indicated the existence of a sufficiently high number of
impurities with increasing implanted doses. However, spreading resistance probe
profiles of electrical concentrations showed electrical concentration
saturation in spite of increasing doses and indicated poor activation of As
relative to P in Ge. The relationships between the chemical and electrical
concentrations of P in Ge and Si were calculated, taking into account the
effect of incomplete ionization. The results indicated that the activation of P
was almost the same in Ge and Si. The activation ratios obtained experimentally
were similar to the calculated values, implying insufficient degeneration of
Ge. The profiles of P in Ge substrates with and without damage generated by Ge
ion implantation were compared, and it was clarified that the damage that may
compensate the activated -type dopants has no relationship with the
activation of P in Ge.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
Possible involvement of iron-induced oxidative insults in neurodegeneration.
Involvement of iron in the development of neurodegenerative disorders has long been suggested, and iron that cannot be stored properly is suggested to induce iron toxicity. To enhance iron uptake and suppress iron storage in neurons, we generated transgenic (Tg) mice expressing iron regulatory protein 2 (IRP2), a major regulator of iron metabolism, in a neuron-specific manner. Although very subtle, IRP2 was expressed in all regions of brain examined. In the Tg mice, mitochondrial oxidative insults were observed including generation of 4-hydroxynonenal modified proteins, which appeared to be removed by a mitochondrial quality control protein Parkin. Inter-crossing of the Tg mice to Parkin knockout mice perturbed the integrity of neurons in the substantia nigra and provoked motor symptoms. These results suggest that a subtle, but chronic increase in IRP2 induces mitochondrial oxidative insults and accelerates neurodegeneration in a mouse model of Parkinson's disease. Thus, the IRP2 Tg may be a useful tool to probe the roles of iron-induced mitochondrial damages in neurodegeraration research
