    Identifying bioactive phytochemicals in spent coffee grounds for cosmetic application through global metabolite analysis

The present study explores the possible use of spent coffee grounds as the raw materials for cosmetics industry. The main objective of this project are to investigate the chemical profiles and identify the bioactive compounds for cosmetics application through global metabolite analysis. The compounds extracted from SCG of Ethiopia coffee (Yirgacheffe), Costa Rican coffee (Tarrazu) and Hawaiian coffee (Kona) were analyzed by ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS). The ion chromatograms were submitted to XCMS platform operated by Center for Metabolomics at the Scripps Research Institute. The peak detection, peak grouping, spectra extraction, and retention alignment were processed by XCMS. The spectra were annotated and the compounds were identified and categorized by integration with METLIN, the world's largest metabolite database. Multivariate and univariate statistical analysis including PCA and cloud-plot were performed by XCMS to compare the chemical profiles between the three coffee cultivars. These analyses indicated that each cultivar showed a specific cluster. Over 200 compounds related to anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-tyrosinase and anti-tumor for skin care application were identified by XCMS. Therefore, the presence of bioactive compounds in SCG makes it a potential source of raw material for cosmetic application (e.g., anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, skin-whiting, and anti-aging).Includes bibliographical references (pages 103-122)

    An effective communication and computation model based on a hybridgraph-deeplearning approach for SIoT.

    Social Edge Service (SES) is an emerging mechanism in the Social Internet of Things (SIoT) orchestration for effective user-centric reliable communication and computation. The services are affected by active and/or passive attacks such as replay attacks, message tampering because of sharing the same spectrum, as well as inadequate trust measurement methods among intelligent devices (roadside units, mobile edge devices, servers) during computing and content-sharing. These issues lead to computation and communication overhead of servers and computation nodes. To address this issue, we propose the HybridgrAph-Deep-learning (HAD) approach in two stages for secure communication and computation. First, the Adaptive Trust Weight (ATW) model with relation-based feedback fusion analysis to estimate the fitness-priority of every node based on directed graph theory to detect malicious nodes and reduce computation and communication overhead. Second, a Quotient User-centric Coeval-Learning (QUCL) mechanism to formulate secure channel selection, and Nash equilibrium method for optimizing the communication to share data over edge devices. The simulation results confirm that our proposed approach has achieved effective communication and computation performance, and enhanced Social Edge Services (SES) reliability than state-of-the-art approaches

    ASXC2 approach: a service-X cost optimization strategy based on edge orchestration for IIoT.

    Most computation-intensive industry applications and servers encounter service-reliability challenges due to the limited resource capability of the edge. Achieving quality data fusion and accurate service reliability with optimized service-x execution cost is challenging. While existing systems have taken into account factors such as device service execution, residual resource ratio, and channel condition; the service execution time, cost, and utility ratios of requested services from devices and servers also have a significant impact on service execution cost. To enhance service quality and reliability, we design a 2-step adaptive service-X cost consolidation (ASXC 2) approach. This approach is based on the node-centric Lyapunov method and distributed Markov mechanism, aiming to optimize the service execution error rate during offloading. The node-centric Lyapunov method incorporates cost and utility functions and node-centric features to estimate the service cost before offloading. Additionally, the Markov mechanism-inspired service latency prediction model design assists in mitigating the ratio of offload-service execution errors by establishing a mobility-correlation matrix between devices and servers. In addition, the non-linear programming multi-tenancy heuristic method design help to predict the service preferences for improving the resource utilisation ratio. The simulations show the effectiveness of our approach. The model performance is enhanced with 0.13% service offloading efficiency, 0.82% rate of service completion when transmitting data size is 400 kb, and 0.058% average service offloading efficiency with 40 CPU Megacycles when the vehicle moves 60 Km/h speed around the server communication range. Our model simulations indicate that our approach is highly effective and suitable for lightweight, complex environments

    Warm needle acupuncture for osteoarthritis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

    Warm needle acupuncture (WA) is considered a potential intervention in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of WA in the treatment of OA. Systematic review and meta-analysis METHODS: Fourteen databases were searched from their inception until May 2022. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of WA for treating OA were identified. Study selection and data extraction were performed by two independent reviewers. The Cochrane risk of bias tool and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation program were used to assess all included RCTs. A total of 66 RCTs met the inclusion criteria for this review. Most of the included studies had an unclear risk of bias, and the certainty of the evidence was very low. Twenty-four RCTs compared the effects of WA with those of oral drug therapies. Meta-analysis showed superior effects of WA for the total effective rate (risk ratio (RR): 1.22, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.17 to 1.27, I  = 26%, p < 0.001, 24 studies, n = 2278), pain, and function. Eight RCTs compared the effects of WA+drug therapy, and meta-analysis showed favorable effects for the total effective rate (RR: 1.27, 95% CI: 1.18 to 1.35, I =0%, p < 0.001, 8 studies, n = 646). Eight RCTs compared the effects of WA and intra-articular sodium hyaluronate (IASH) injection on OA and found equivalent effects of WA on the symptoms of OA. Twenty-eight RCTs compared the effects of WA+IASH injection with those of IASH injection, and meta-analysis showed superior effects of WA+IASH in terms of the total effective rate (RR: 1.15, 95% CI: 1.11 to 1.19, I =27.3%, p < 0.001, 25 studies, n = 2208), pain, and function. None of the RCTs reported serious adverse events. WA may have some distinct advantages in the treatment of OA. However, well-designed RCTs with larger sample sizes are needed.     A quantum-inspired sensor consolidation measurement approach for cyber-physical systems.

    Cyber-Physical System (CPS) devices interconnect to grab data over a common platform from industrial applications. Maintaining immense data and making instant decision analysis by selecting a feasible node to meet latency constraints is challenging. To address this issue, we design a quantum-inspired online node consolidation (QONC) algorithm based on a time-sensitive measurement reinforcement system for making decisions to evaluate the feasible node, ensuring reliable service and deploying the node at the appropriate position for accurate data computation and communication. We design the Angular-based node position analysis method to localize the node through rotation and t-gate to mitigate latency and enhance system performance. We formalize the estimation and selection of the feasible node based on quantum formalization node parameters (node contiguity, node optimal knack rate, node heterogeneity, probability of fusion variance error ratio). We design a fitness function to assess the probability of node fitness before selection. The simulation results convince us that our approach achieves an effective measurement rate of performance index by reducing the average error ratio from 0.17-0.22, increasing the average coverage ratio from 29% to 42%, and the qualitative execution frequency of services. Moreover, the proposed model achieves a 74.3% offloading reduction accuracy and a 70.2% service reliability rate compared to state-of-the-art approaches.     Changes in neuropsychological functioning following temporal lobectomy in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy

    Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the changes in neuropsychological functioning in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) after temporal lobe resection. Methods: Fifty-four TLE patients were evaluated before and after surgery using comprehensive neuropsychological tests to assess general intelligence, executive functioning, language, verbal and visual memory, working memory, visuo-spatial ability, attention and motor function. Results: The patients with left TLE showed no impairment of neuropsychological functioning after surgery, with the exception of auditory immediate memory. Furthermore, they showed significant improvement in performance IQ, executive function, working memory, visual memory, attention and psychomotor speed. The patients with right TLE did not show any significant impairment in post-operative neuropsychological functioning. They showed improvements in intellectual and executive functions, language, visual memory, visuo-spatial ability, attention and motor function post-operatively. The patients with hippocampal sclerosis showed greater post-operative improvements than the patients without hippocampal sclerosis regardless of the side. Patients with better pre-operative neuropsychological function had a higher chance of successfully discontinuing all seizure medications after surgery. Discussion: The results of this study suggest that temporal lobectomy does not harm the neuropsychological functioning of patients with intractable TLE and that it improves cognitive functions of the contralateral hemisphere. © 2009 W.     Field Theory And Second Renormalization Group For Multifractals In Percolation

    The field-theory for multifractals in percolation is reformulated in such a way that multifractal exponents clearly appear as eigenvalues of a second renormalization group. The first renormalization group describes geometrical properties of percolation clusters, while the second-one describes electrical properties, including noise cumulants. In this context, multifractal exponents are associated with symmetry-breaking fields in replica space. This provides an explanation for their observability. It is suggested that multifractal exponents are ''dominant'' instead of ''relevant'' since there exists an arbitrary scale factor which can change their sign from positive to negative without changing the Physics of the problem.Comment: RevTex, 10 page
