Propagation of supersymmetric charged sleptons at high energies
The potential for neutrino telescopes to discover charged stau production in
neutrino-nucleon interactions in Earth depends in part on the stau lifetime and
range. In some supersymmetric scenarios, the next lightest supersymmetric
particle is a stau with a decay length on the scale of 10 km. We evaluate the
electromagnetic energy loss as a function of energy and stau mass. The energy
loss parameter scales as the inverse stau mass for the dominating
electromagnetic processes, photonuclear and pair production. The range
can be parameterized as a function of stau mass, initial energy and minimum
final energy. In comparison to earlier estimates of the stau range, our results
are as much as a factor of two larger, improving the potential for stau
discovery in neutrino telescopes.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures, version accepted for publication in Astroparticle

Glueball spectrum based on a rigorous three-dimensional relativistic equation for two-gluon bound states II: calculation of the glueball spectrum
In the preceding paper, a rigorous three-dimensional relativistic equation
for two-gluon bound states was derived from the QCD with massive gluons and
represented in the angular momentum representation. In order to apply this
equation to calculate the glueball spectrum, in this paper, the equation is
recast in an equivalent three-dimensional relativistic equation satisfied by
the two-gluon positive energy state amplitude. The interaction Hamiltonian in
the equation is exactly derived and expressed as a perturbative series. The
first term in the series describes the one-gluon exchange interaction which
includes fully the retardation effect in it. This term plus the linear
confining potential are chosen to be the interaction Hamiltonian and employed
in the practical calculation. With the integrals containing three and four
spherical Bessel functions in the QCD vertices being analytically calculated,
the interaction Hamiltonian is given an explicit expression in the angular
momentum representation. Numerically solving the relativistic equation with
taking the contributions arising from the retardation effect and the
longitudinal mode of gluon fields into account, a set of masses for the
and glueball states are
obtained and are in fairly good agreement with the predictions given by the
lattice simulatio

Glueball spectrum based on a rigorous three-dimensional relativistic equation for two-gluon bound states I: Derivation of the relativistic equation
A rigorous three-dimensional relativistic equation satisfied by two-gluon
bound states is derived from the QCD with massive gluons. With the gluon fields
and the quark fields being expanded in terms of the gluon multipole fields and
the spherical Dirac spinors respectively, the equation is well established in
the angular momentum representation and hence is much convenient for solving
the problem of two-gluon glueball spectra. In particular, the interaction
kernel in the equation is exactly derived and given a closed expression which
includes all the interactions taking place in the two-gluon glueballs. The
kernel contains only a few types of Green's functions and commutators.
Therefore, it is not only easily calculated by the perturbation method, but
also provides a suitable basis for nonperturbative investigations
High-resolution maps show that rubber causes substantial deforestation
Understanding the effects of cash crop expansion on natural forest is of fundamental importance. However, for most crops there are no remotely sensed global maps1, and global deforestation impacts are estimated using models and extrapolations. Natural rubber is an example of a principal commodity for which deforestation impacts have been highly uncertain, with estimates differing more than fivefold1,2,3,4. Here we harnessed Earth observation satellite data and cloud computing5 to produce high-resolution maps of rubber (10 m pixel size) and associated deforestation (30 m pixel size) for Southeast Asia. Our maps indicate that rubber-related forest loss has been substantially underestimated in policy, by the public and in recent reports6,7,8. Our direct remotely sensed observations show that deforestation for rubber is at least twofold to threefold higher than suggested by figures now widely used for setting policy4. With more than 4 million hectares of forest loss for rubber since 1993 (at least 2 million hectares since 2000) and more than 1 million hectares of rubber plantations established in Key Biodiversity Areas, the effects of rubber on biodiversity and ecosystem services in Southeast Asia could be extensive. Thus, rubber deserves more attention in domestic policy, within trade agreements and in incoming due-diligence legislation
A CSF-1R-blocking antibody/IL-10 fusion protein increases anti-tumor immunity by effectuating tumor-resident CD8+ T cells.
Strategies to increase intratumoral concentrations of an anticancer agent are desirable to optimize its therapeutic potential when said agent is efficacious primarily within a tumor but also have significant systemic side effects. Here, we generate a bifunctional protein by fusing interleukin-10 (IL-10) to a colony-stimulating factor-1 receptor (CSF-1R)-blocking antibody. The fusion protein demonstrates significant antitumor activity in multiple cancer models, especially head and neck cancer. Moreover, this bifunctional protein not only leads to the anticipated reduction in tumor-associated macrophages but also triggers proliferation, activation, and metabolic reprogramming of CD8 + T cells. Furthermore, it extends the clonotype diversity of tumor-infiltrated T cells and shifts the tumor microenvironment (TME) to an immune-active state. This study suggests an efficient strategy for designing immunotherapeutic agents by fusing a potent immunostimulatory molecule to an antibody targeting TME-enriched factors
Opto-mechanical measurement of micro-trap via nonlinear cavity enhanced Raman scattering spectrum
High-gain resonant nonlinear Raman scattering on trapped cold atoms within a
high-fineness ring optical cavity is simply explained under a nonlinear
opto-mechanical mechanism, and a proposal using it to detect frequency of
micro-trap on atom chip is presented. The enhancement of scattering spectrum is
due to a coherent Raman conversion between two different cavity modes mediated
by collective vibrations of atoms through nonlinear opto-mechanical couplings.
The physical conditions of this technique are roughly estimated on Rubidium
atoms, and a simple quantum analysis as well as a multi-body semiclassical
simulation on this nonlinear Raman process is conducted.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
Cognitive dysfunction after on-pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) in a tertiary university hospital – a prevalence study
Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) was a common complication of onpump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) which could reduce the quality of life. We investigated the prevalence and perioperative risk factors associated with POCD after elective CABG surgery. In this prospective cross-sectional study, 38 patients were recruited and their cognitive function was assessed using Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) at preoperative, 7th and 30th days, postoperatively. A total of 34 patients completed the study with four dropouts due to post-operative death.Prevalence of POCD on the 7th day and 30th days were comparable at 41% and 26.4%, respectively. The preoperative mean MoCA scoring improved significantly in patients with POCD on the 7th and 30th day after CABG surgery (24.68 + 3.57 vs 25.06 + 3.73 vs 25.88 + 4.00, p-value 0.044). Higher age was correlated with a reduction in mean MoCA score and increased risk of POCD detected on the 7th and 30th day postoperatively (Rs -0.451 and -0.359, p-value 0.007 and 0.037, respectively). Patients with abnormal lung function tests had a significant reduction of MoCA scoring at preoperative and lower improvement score postoperatively, compared with normal lung function test patients (p-value 0.013). In conclusion, POCD after on-pump CABG surgery occured in about one-third of the patient and improved over time. Increasing age and abnormal preoperative lung function tests were identified as the risk factor for POCD. Abnormal lung function test was associated with a lesser one-month cognitive improvement after CABG
