This paper focuses on the role played by Jesus’ corporality in his relationship to the disciples after the resurrection. Through the study of Jn 20, especially the conflicting commandments given to Mary Magdalene (20,11-18) and Thomas (20,24-29), it is suggested that the resurrection is not to be understood physically, though it is bodily. Thus, the body of the Resurrected is still mediating his relationship with his disciples, but in a way that is both continuous and discontinuous with the way it did in his pre-Easter career

TRUNK POSTURE AND STATICO-DYNAMICAL SPINE ANALYSIS– COMPARING ULTRASOUND BASED VS. OPTICALLY BASED MEASUREMENT SYSTEM

The purpose of this study was to compare two different methods measuring trunk posture and statico-dynamical spine analysis. 32 patients participated in this cross sectional study. Comparing measured values a wide congruence could be demonstrated with marginal underestimating in kyphosis and lordosis data for the ultrasound based system. The largest deviation could be shown for pelvic obliquity measured in mm. Trunk inclination, vertical deflection and pelvic obliquity measured in degree showed proper analogy for both measuring systems. Validity, reliability based on particular technical principles could be verified

Compensation of mode shapes with a piezo electric actuator for an optical drive

In miniaturized systems (e.g. optical disk drives) much effortis made to design a structure in such a way that the demandson dimensions (height, width) and desired bandwidthare satisfied. Easier, and often cheaper designs can not beused, because they suffer from lower resonance frequencies, which limit the bandwidth. A method is presented formechatronic structures that compensates unwanted bandwidthlimiting resonance frequencies with an additionalpiezo electric actuator. Advantage of this method is thatno extra sensor is used and that the contribution of the piezois much easier to tune (when compared to a notch filter),since it is part of the structure. Disadvantage is that thepiezo influences the dynamics of the original system, whichcomplicates the choice of a suitable piezo actuator

Parent form for higher spin fields on anti-de Sitter space

We construct a first order parent field theory for free higher spin gauge fields on constant curvature spaces. As in the previously considered flat case, both Fronsdal's and Vasiliev's unfolded formulations can be reached by two different straightforward reductions. The parent theory itself is formulated using a higher dimensional embedding space and turns out to be geometrically extremely transparent and free of the intricacies of both of its reductions.Comment: 39 pages, LaTeX; misprints corrected, references adde

Elucidation of the RamA Regulon in Klebsiella pneumoniae Reveals a Role in LPS Regulation

    Get PDF
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a significant human pathogen, in part due to high rates of multidrug resistance. RamA is an intrinsic regulator in K. pneumoniae established to be important for the bacterial response to antimicrobial challenge; however, little is known about its possible wider regulatory role in this organism during infection. In this work, we demonstrate that RamA is a global transcriptional regulator that significantly perturbs the transcriptional landscape of K. pneumoniae, resulting in altered microbe-drug or microbe-host response. This is largely due to the direct regulation of 68 genes associated with a myriad of cellular functions. Importantly, RamA directly binds and activates the lpxC, lpxL-2 and lpxO genes associated with lipid A biosynthesis, thus resulting in modifications within the lipid A moiety of the lipopolysaccharide. RamA-mediated alterations decrease susceptibility to colistin E, polymyxin B and human cationic antimicrobial peptide LL-37. Increased RamA levels reduce K. pneumoniae adhesion and uptake into macrophages, which is supported by in vivo infection studies, that demonstrate increased systemic dissemination of ramA overexpressing K. pneumoniae. These data establish that RamA-mediated regulation directly perturbs microbial surface properties, including lipid A biosynthesis, which facilitate evasion from the innate host response. This highlights RamA as a global regulator that confers pathoadaptive phenotypes with implications for our understanding of the pathogenesis of Enterobacter, Salmonella and Citrobacter spp. that express orthologous RamA proteins

Early Scottish Monasteries and Prehistory: A Preliminary Dialogue

Reflecting oil the diversity of monastic attributes found in the east and west of Britain, the author proposes that prehistoric ritual practice was influential on monastic form. An argument is advanced that this was not based solely oil inspiration Front the landscape, nor oil conservative tradition, but oil the intellectual reconciliation of Christian and non-Christian ideas, with disparate results that account. for the differences in monumentality. Among more general matters tentatively credited with a prehistoric root are the cult of relics, the tonsure and the date of Easter

A LÍNGUA NACIONAL” BY JOÃO RIBEIRO: SOME NOTES ABSTRACT: This article aims to present some initial notes on the work by João Ribeiro (1921), entitled A Língua Nacional. To do so, we harbor our discussion in contemporary theoretical and analytical discussions in the field of History of Linguistic Ideas in its relation to Discourse Analysis in the Brazilian context. Our proposal is to bring up the notions of linguistic colonization and decolonization in order to reflect on the constitutive meaning effects of those studies undertaken in the early twentieth century on the national language in Brazil.KEYWORDS: João Ribeiro, A Língua Nacional, History of Linguistic Ideas, Brazi
