Quantum Confinement in Cadmium Selenide Multilayer Thin Films Using Physical Vapour Deposition Method
Nanocrystals of CdSe have been produced in SiOx matrix layer and in ZnSe heterostructure layer by
thermal evaporation method. Structural studies were done by X-ray diffractometer. Quantum confinement
effect of CdSe nanocrystals was analyzed from optical studies. Bulk CdSe has band-gap energy of 1.756 eV
that can be shifted to larger values by reducing the crystal size to dimensions smaller than the Bohr radius
of the exciton. Experimentally measured band-gap shifts with respect to the bulk value for quantum dot
thin films are compared with the predictions of the effective mass approximation model (i.e., Brus model)
and Quantum mechanical model. Sizes of the crystallites calculated from both models were coincident with
each other.

Detection of Glaucoma and Microaneurysm in Retinal Fundus Images Based on Optic Disk and Optic Cup Segmentation
Diabetes cause’s metabolic and physiological abnormalities in the retina and the changes suggest a role for inflammation in the development of diabetic retinopathy. The occurrence of micro aneurysms, a small red dot in retinal layer in the eye, is one of the early signs of diabetic retinopathy. To serve this purpose, various automated systems have been designed which includespreprocessing methods and candidate extractors. The objectives of this paper are to classify different stages of diabetic retinopathy as mild, Moderate, and Severe. Glaucoma is an irreversible chronic eye disease that leads to vision loss. In this paper, we propose a method for cup to disc ratio (CDR) assessment using 2-D retinal fundus images. In the proposed method, the optic disc and optic cup is segmented using thresholding algorithm. The cup to disc ratio (CDR) is computed based on the measurement of the segmented optic disc and optic cup. The Cup to Disc Ratio (CDR) of the color retinal fundus camera image is the primary identifier to confirm Glaucoma for a given patient
Spill-over effect of India cotton trade on labour and household income
India is one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of cotton, the major raw material for the textile industry, employing more than 4.5 crore people in the country. The present study aimed to analyse the impact of adverse trade in Indian cotton sector on labor and household income by employing Social Analysis Matrix based multiplier model and partial equilibrium model. Indian textile sector has strong backward linkages with primary input multiplier and household income multiplier of 4.13 and 3.44, respectively and, thus transmitting external impacts to the labour and household income. The sector has a higher multiplier effect of 10.17 on production activities, of which the impact on the cotton sector is 0.126. Fall in export and domestic demand for clothing and apparel in addition to movement restrictions around the world during the period 2020-2021, disrupted cotton supply chain and consequent fall in demand and price of the commodity. Simulations for the increase in carry-over stock and reduction in domestic consumption and cotton exports revealed that limiting the commodity's production and supply would retain the market equilibrium and increase the domestic price to the advantage of the farmers. The study reveals that dynamics in the Indian cotton sector trade significantly impacted labour and household income. Appropriate planning for areas under cotton cultivation and alternate procurement mechanisms during emergency situations would stabilise the Indian cotton economy.

Anti Urolithiatic and anti hyperlipidemic activity of Coleus aromaticus An explanation of the underlying mechanisms
Leaves paste of Coleus aromaticus is used as a traditional remedy for urolithiasis in India. In the present study, the anti urolithiatic activity of Coleus aromaticus was investigated in ethylene glycol induced urolithiatic rats. There was a significant increase in the levels of calcium oxalate crystals in the kidneys as well as lipid levels in the blood serum. Treatment with hydro alcoholic extract of C.aromaticus leaves (CALHAE) significantly reduced cholesterol levels at 300 and 600 mg/kg, and triglyceride levels at 600 mg/kg in urolithiatic rats. Histopathalogical reports confirmed that chronic administration of CALHAE (300 and 600 mg/kg) diminished number of calcium oxalate crystals in kidneys. CALHAE has shown reduction in thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in urolithiatic rats. Moreover, CALHAE showed potent in vitro antioxidant activity in DMPD, ABTS radicals (MnO2 method). Pulmonary Hypertension Registry of Kerala (PROKERALA) – Rationale, design and methods
AbstractBackgroundPulmonary hypertension (PH) is a disease associated with a high morbidity and mortality. There is paucity of data regarding PH from the developing countries including India.Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension is the most important etiological factor in the western world, but PH secondary to rheumatic heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and untreated congenital heart disease could well be the predominant causes in developing countries like India.The main objective of the PROKERALA study – Pulmonary hypertension Registry Of Kerala is to collect data regarding the etiology, practice patterns and one-year outcomes of patients diagnosed to have PH.MethodsThe study is a hospital-based registry in the state of Kerala supported and funded by the Cardiological Society of India, Kerala Chapter. A total of 77 hospitals have agreed to participate in the registry. PH was defined as systolic pulmonary artery pressure derived by echocardiography of more than 50mmHg (by tricuspid regurgitation jet) or mean PA pressure more than 25mmHg obtained at cardiac catheterization.A detailed questionnaire is administered which includes the demographic characteristics, risk factors, family history, ECG data, 6 minute walk test distance, chest X ray findings and echocardiographic data. Details of PH specific therapy and one-year follow-up data are collected.From a preliminary survey in the region, we estimated that we will be able to collect 2000 cases over a period of one year
Shell closure effects studied via cluster decay in heavy nuclei
The effects of shell closure in nuclei via the cluster decay is studied. In
this context, we have made use of the Preformed Cluster Model () of Gupta
and collaborators based on the Quantum Mechanical Fragmentation Theory. The key
point in the cluster radioactivity is that it involves the interplay of close
shell effects of parent and daughter. Small half life for a parent indicates
shell stabilized daughter and long half life indicates the stability of the
parent against the decay. In the cluster decay of trans lead nuclei observed so
far, the end product is doubly magic lead or its neighbors. With this in our
mind we have extended the idea of cluster radioactivity. We investigated decay
of different nuclei where Zirconium is always taken as a daughter nucleus,
which is very well known deformed nucleus. The branching ratio of cluster decay
and -decay is also studied for various nuclei, leading to magic or
almost doubly magic daughter nuclei. The calculated cluster decay half-life are
in well agreement with the observed data. First time a possibility of cluster
decay in nucleus is predicted
