Supplier selection is one of the most critical activities of purchasing management in supply chain. Supplier selection is a complex problem involving qualitative and quantitative multi-criteria. A trade-off between these tangible and intangible factors is essential in selecting the best supplier. The work incorporates AHP in choosing the best suppliers. The results suggest that AHP process makes it possible to introduce the optimum order quantities among the selected suppliers so that the Total Value of Purchasing (TVP) becomes maximum. In this work, an AHP-based supplier selection model is formulated and then applied to a real case study for a steel manufacturing company in Malaysia. The use of the proposed model indicates that it can be applied to improve and assist decision making to resolve the supplier selection problem in choosing the optimal supplier combination. The work represents the systematic identification of the important criteria for supplier selection process. In addition, the results exhibit the application of development of a multi-criteria decision model for evaluation and selection of suppliers with proposed AHP model, which by scoring the performance of suppliers is able to reduce the time taken to select a vendorPeer Reviewe

The Sultan Ibrahim Reservoir located at Gunung Pulai catchment area was previously managed by the Singapore's Public Utilities Board before the Board handed over the reservoir to Johor State Government under current management of the Syarikat Air Johor. At the present time, the Syarikat Air Johor is operating a Gunung Pulai Water Treatment Plant consisted of two main plants, i.e. Water Sedimentation Plant and Water Filtration Plant for treating raw water from the reservoir before supplying to the consumers. However, the integrity of water treatment plant's structure should be checked due to several cracks were observed, and moreover the structure was built over more than 90 years. The formation of the cracks in the Gunung Pulai Water Treatment Plant may be induced by movement of the sloping area to the south-east of Water Sedimentation Plant. The calculated Factor of Safety (FOS) via sensitivity analysis for cross sections of original slope indicates any decrease in friction angle and/or cohesion strength or increase in horizontal seismic load will further cause instability on slope. Also, the results of Load-Deformation analysis on cross sections of original slope show significant vertical displacement and horizontal displacement on the bottom and both sides of sedimentation tanks, respectively. The results indicate applied structural and water loads significantly affect deformation at both vertical and horizontal directions which could have contributed to FOS < 1 in slope stability analysis

AbstractNonlinear partial differential equations (NLPDEs) are widely utilized in engineering and physical research to represent many physical processes of naturalistic occurrences. In this paper, we investigate two well-known NLPDEs, namely, the (2 + 1)-dimensional first integro-differential KP hierarchy equation and the (2 + 1)-dimensional second integro-differential KP hierarchy equation, through a well-stable algorithm known as the [Formula: see text]-expansion approach for the first time. This algorithm is generally based on the expansion of function method and has the advantage of easy implementation and can provide a reliable solution to any NLPDEs. Employing the algorithm, we have been able to perceive the closed form solitons of the two chosen NLPDEs that physically represent the solitary wave solutions like, singular, singular periodic, bell, and anti-bell-shaped types of solitons. Furthermore, we explore the graphical manifestations of the obtained solutions, which are of the mentioned soliton types. From the findings of our in-depth study, we can state that the acquired solutions for the selected two equations may greatly aid to extracting the associated natural phenomena in mathematical physics such as fluid dynamics and ocean engineering
