Behavior of the Dripping Faucet over a Wide Range of the Flow Rate
The time interval of successive water-drips from a faucet was examined over a
wide range of the flow rate. The dripping interval alternately exhibits a
stable state and a chaotic state as the flow rate increases. In the stable
state, the volume of the drip is kept constant at fixed flow rates, and the
constant volume increases with the flow rate. In the chaotic state, in addition
to a mechanics that the drip is torn by its own weight, the vibration of the

In vitro percutaneous penetration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from sunscreen creams
Background: Dermal exposure to Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) affects many outdoor workers such as asphalt workers. Usually the use of sunscreen creams is suggested to protect them from UV radiation. However sunscreen could prevent or facilitate dermal absorption of industrial chemicals.
Objectives: The aim of the study was to assess percutaneous penetration of anthracene using 2 different sunscreen creams as vehicle.
Methods: In vitro permeation experiments were carried out using standardized in vitro methods with static diffusion cells. Excised human skin prepared to approximately 350 mm thickness was fixed on the diffusion cells. The receiving phase was a saline solution with 6% PEG 20. The 2 sunscreen creams (one lipophilic and one hydrophilic) were applied uniformly (2mg/cm2) on the skin mounted on the diffusion cell. After 20 minutes, a solution of anthracene and artificial sweat was added. Analysis of anthracene in the receptor samples was carried out by beta counter analyzer (Packard).
Results: Results did not show a percutaneous penetration of anthracene from sunscreen creams while in previous studies in vitro percutaneous penetration of anthracene was demonstrated using the same methodology.
Discussion and Conclusion: The use of sunscreen creams among outdoor workers, would not seem to enhance percutaneous penetration of PAHs. On the contrary it seems to be able to reduce dermal absorption of anthracene in the workplace
A Guanosine Triphosphate-dependent Acyl Coenzyme A Synthetase from Rat Liver Mitochondria
A guanosine triphosphate-specific acyl coenzyme A synthetase has been purified from extracts of sonically disrupted rat liver mitochondria. This enzyme, which is free of adenosine triphosphate-dependent activating systems and from succinyl-CoA synthetase activity, catalyzes the formation of CoA esters of both long and short chain fatty acids. The EEE Project
The new experiment ``Extreme Energy Events'' (EEE) to detect extensive air
showers through muon detection is starting in Italy. The use of particle
detectors based on Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPC) will allow to
determine with a very high accuracy the direction of the axis of cosmic ray
showers initiated by primaries of ultra-high energy, together with a high
temporal resolution. The installation of many of such 'telescopes' in numerous
High Schools scattered all over the Italian territory will also allow to
investigate coincidences between multiple primaries producing distant showers.

Monte Carlo Simulations of Some Dynamical Aspects of Drop Formation
In this work we present some results from computer simulations of dynamical
aspects of drop formation in a leaky faucet. Our results, which agree very well
with the experiments, suggest that only a few elements, at the microscopic
level, would be necessary to describe the most important features of the
system. We were able to set all parameters of the model in terms of real ones.

Dripping Faucet Dynamics Clarified by an Improved Mass-Spring Model
An improved mass-spring model for a dripping faucet is presented. The model
is constructed based on the numerical results which we recently obtained from
fluid dynamical calculations. Both the fluid dynamical calculations and the
present mass-spring model exhibit a variety of complex behavior including
transition to chaos in good agreement with experiments. Further, the
mass-spring model reveals fundamental dynamics inherent in the dripping faucet

Simulation of a Dripping Faucet
We present a simulation of a dripping faucet system. A new algorithm based on
Lagrangian description is introduced. The shape of drop falling from a faucet
obtained by the present algorithm agrees quite well with experimental
observations. Long-term behavior of the simulation can reproduce period-one,
period-two, intermittent and chaotic oscillations widely observed in

A simulation tool for MRPC telescopes of the EEE project
The Extreme Energy Events (EEE) Project is mainly devoted to the study of the
secondary cosmic ray radiation by using muon tracker telescopes made of three
Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPC) each. The experiment consists of a
telescope network mainly distributed across Italy, hosted in different building
structures pertaining to high schools, universities and research centers.
Therefore, the possibility to take into account the effects of these structures
on collected data is important for the large physics programme of the project.
A simulation tool, based on GEANT4 and using GEMC framework, has been
implemented to take into account the muon interaction with EEE telescopes and
to estimate the effects on data of the structures surrounding the experimental
apparata.A dedicated event generator producing realistic muon distributions,
detailed geometry and microscopic behavior of MRPCs have been included to
produce experimental-like data. The comparison between simulated and
experimental data, and the estimation of detector resolutions is here presented
