    Optimal cutting directions and rectangle orientation algorithm

    The first stage in hierarchical approaches to Floorplan Design defines topological relations between components that intend to optimize a given objective in a circuit board. These relations determine a placement that is subsequently optimized in order to minimize a cost measurement (that will probably be one between chip area or perimeter). The board optimization gives rise to multiple subproblems that need to be answered in order to obtain a good solution. Among the most relevant ones we find the problem of defining the optimal orientation of cells and the definition of the optimal cutting sequence that minimize the placement board area. We will present a generalization of an algorithm due to Stockmeyer so that it obtains a solution that not only defines the optimal cell orientation but also the slicing cuts sequence that will lead to this optimal orientation and overall area minimization.http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/B6VCT-3TN9R05-B/1/3ed2fa5acf5e53dff08af5423738ac8

    Where energy flows, passion grows: testing a moderated mediation model of work passion through a cross-cultural lens

    This study examines how and when passionate leaders can instigate work passion in their followers. We propose relational energy as a social interaction mediator that can facilitate the crossover of work passion from leader to followers. Additionally, we introduce a moderator of culture (Anglo culture, e.g., Canada vs. Confucian Asian culture, e.g., China) as it plays a vital role in the dynamics of interpersonal relations within a leader-follower dyad. We collected two-wave data from MBA students of two Confucian Asian countries (China and Singapore, n = 120) and two Anglo countries (Canada and Australia, n = 265) to test our moderated mediation model. The results show that interactions with passionate leaders can generate relational energy in followers and subsequently lead to followers’ passion for work. Furthermore, the findings shed light on the moderating effect of culture, such that the leader-follower work passion relationship via follower relational energy was stronger for followers from Anglo culture than the followers from Confucian Asian culture. Limitations of the study and directions for future research are discussed

    Building components with incorporated phase change materials (PCMs) meant to increase heat storage capacity and enable stabilization of interior buildings surface temperatures, whereby influencing the thermal comfort sensation and the stabilization of the interior ambient temperatures. The potential of advanced simulation tools to evaluate and optimize the usage of PCM in the control of indoor temperature, allowing for an improvement in the comfort conditions and/or in the cooling energy demand, was explored.     This data article contains data related to the research article entitled "3D imaging of cell interactions with electrospun PLGA nanofiber membranes for bone regeneration" by Stachewicz et al. [1]. In this paper we include additional data showing degradation analysis of poly(d,l-lactide-co-glycolide acid) (PLGA) electrospun fibers in medium and air using fiber diameter distribution histograms. We also describe the steps used in "slice and view" tomography techniques with focused ion beam (FIB) microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and detail the image analysis to obtain 3D reconstruction of osteoblast cell integration with electrospun network of fibers. Further supporting data and detailed information on the quantification of cell growth within the electrospun nanofiber membranes is provided

    Applicability of TRMM Precipitation for Hydrologic Modeling in a Basin in the Northeast Brazilian Agreste.

    <div><p>Abstract Determining precipitation using remote sensing is gaining space in hydrologic studies, helping make up for the lack of data in many regions of Brazil. The products from satellite TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission) are widely applied in studies in Brazil, but there are still few results about their applicability for hydrologic modeling in the Northeast Region, which is characterized by an irregular precipitation regime. The objective of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of using the TRMM 3B42 V7 data for hydrologic modeling in the Japaratuba river basin in Sergipe at three timescales: daily, every ten days, and monthly. The comparative analysis between the rainfall data from rain gauges and TRMM did not indicate satisfactory adequacy at these studied scales, since the TRMM data underestimated the total rainfall for all stations used in the study. However, for the hydrologic modeling, acceptable values were obtained for the efficiency coefficients evaluated only for the ten-day and monthly scales.</p></div
