    Relapses In multiple sclerosis.

    Exact causes of contradictions in the understanding of relapsing course as characteristic phenomenon of multiple sclerosis (MS) and primarily relapsing-remitting type are still considered to be “sub rosa”. We tried to determine connection and correlation between seasonal dynamic factors, chronometric parameters of disease progression (age, disease duration) and frequency of relapses and the role of gender differences as well. A four-year prospective study included complete registration of all cases of MS exacerbations in resident patients with a relapsing-remmiting course of the disease according to McDonald criteria in Volyn region of Ukraine in 2010. Each patient had neurological score based on EDSS scale to ensure compliance with inclusion criteria. 128 patients (44 males and 84 females) with a remitting-recurring course of the disease were involved in this study. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 18, MedCalc and Microsoft Excel software using standard descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis. In total, 197 cases of MS relapses were registered. Episodes of relapses prevailed in winter-spring period. Multiple regression model including suggested climate factors showed multiple correlation coefficient – 0.55 (p<0.01). The prevalence of MS was higher in females, while general incidence of recurrences was similar to males. However, relapse rate in different age groups differs: the rate of recurrence increases in women aged after 50 years (mean annualized relapse rate (ARR)=0.66), while it slowly decreases in men with aging. The duration of the disease did not have significant effect on the course of MS in women, whereas weak negative relationship (0.24, p<0.001) between the duration of the disease and the frequency of MS in men was showed. Correspondingly, the average negative correlation (-0.37, p<0.001) was detected between the age of disease onset and the incidence of MS recurrence in males, while this connection was not observed in females. We established that the recurrence of MS is a result of multifactorial influence of external and internal factors. Individual seasonal climate variability did not have sufficient force of influence. Therefore, combined effect of corresponding climate changes played a significant role. Furthermore, it is quite probable that interactions of MS with external factors influencing the human body can be mutually integrated

    Measurement of tensor analyzing powers in deuteron photodisintegration

    New accurate measurement of tensor analyzing powers T20, T21 and T22 in deuteron photodisintegration has been performed. Wide-aperture non-magnetic detectors allowed to cover broad kinematic ranges in a single setup: photon energy = 25 to 600 MeV, proton emission angle in CM = 24 to 48 deg. and 70 to 102 deg. New data provide a significant improvement of a few existing measurements. The angular dependency of the tensor asymmetries in deuteron photodisintegration is extracted for the first time.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. Let

    Morphometric and histochemical characteristics of the cribriform type of intraductal carcinoma of the mammary gland

    Introduction: Due to the increasing morbidity and mortality rates from breast cancer, the problem of early, especially morphological diagnosis, continues to be important. The aim of this study to investigate the karyometric and histochemical features of cribriform pattern of parenchyma of intraductal carcinoma of the mammary gland. Materials and methods: Operational and biopsy material was studied in form of serial sections of micropreparations of cribriform type intraductal carcinoma of the mammary gland. Fixation with 10% neutral formalin, paraffin sections are stained with hematoxylin and eosin, complex Bergman + Periodic Acid - Schiff (PAS) reaction + alcyan blue. Cariometry was performed on 100 parenchymal tumor cell, tenth logarithms of the nucleus volume (LgV) were determined, kariocavirogram was constructed. Results: The atypical cellular polymorphism of the tumor, cribriform structures with cancerous cells in the state of apoptosis was revealed. The modal nuclear classes are defined in the interval LgV 0,75; 0,9; 1,2; 1,45, and do not comply with the law of rhythmic growth of nuclei in normal and confirm the cellular atypism of a cancerous tumor. Results are deprived of subjectivity through mathematical analysis of data in percentages (%). Histochemically, in the cytoplasm of cancer cells, precursors of lipids were detected in the form of a Schiff (PAS) positive reaction; alcyan-positive basal membrane of the duct; Bergman-positive protein structures in the nuclei. Conclusions: Cariometry and histochemical analysis of intraductal carcinoma of the mammary gland is an objective and accessible complex method for the analysis of atypical cells, reveals the degree of differentiation, apoptosis of cells and non-invasive stage of cancer
