Data Analysis for Bubble Chambers and Hybrid Systems
The course will be mainly devoted to data-processing aspects of present-day bubble chamber experiments involving the use of external particle detectors. Present trends will be briefly reviewed from the point of view of instrumentation and trigger conditions employed to realise the physics objectives. The lectures will include a discussion of software aids and disciplines for program maintenance and development and the management of data structures
Revisiting December Hollow : Unearthing emotive shape
This paper documents an ongoing project between the composer/engineer Peter Zinovieff, composer Milton Mermikides and violinist Anne-Marie Curran-Cundy. The project is a developed realization of Zinovieff's 1969 December Hollow 'fold-out score' concept. The compositional system is designed to generate electronic music and/or conventional scores by slicing through a three-dimensional topographical score of 'emotional zones'. Each zone is associated with a vector of musical parameters and by selecting various trajectories through the shape, countless pieces may be generated. This paper briefly outlines the approach taken to realize this idea, and develop it with the implementation of real-time processing, the mapping of score space with RGB space and vector transformations of Schumann's Mein Herz ist Schwer, within an adaptive performance model
Interference correlations between like pions in the reaction K-p→K-pπ+π+π-π- at 8.25 GeV/c
We have observed correlations in the transverse momentum of pion pairs with like and unlike charge produced in 8.25 GeV/c K-p→K-pπ+π+π-π- interaction. We found that a Bose-Einstein interference effect accounts partially for these correlations. Evidence is presented indicating that the correlations observed in the above reaction can be described by the reflections from the occurence of physical resonances. © 1983 Springer-Verlag
Q/sup 0/-Q/sup 0/ production in K/sub L//sup 0/p interactions up to 17 GeV/c
The construction of K/sub L//sup 0/ beam for the CERN 2 m hydrogen bubble chamber and the derivation of the beam momentum spectrum are described. Cross sections are presented for the reaction K/sub L//sup 0/+p to K/sub S//sup 0/+ pi /sup +/+ pi /sup -/+p for K/sub L//sup 0/ momenta up to 17 GeV/c. The reaction is seen to be dominated, particularly at the highest momenta, where there are no previous data, by the production of the Q/sup 0/-Q/sup 0/ system. The shapes of the t-distributions for Q/sup 0/ and Q/sup 0/ production are found to be different in a sense opposite to that expected from the pion-exchange Deck model. A model in which the observed effect is ascribed to the addition of a K* exchange Deck graph is found to be incompatible with the data. The data are, however, consistent with a model in which the Q/sup 0/-Q/sup 0/ system is largely resonant and the sense of the cross-over is determined by the s-channel quantum numbers. (12 refs)
