    Evaluation of Knowledge and skills of Health Library Professionals in Karnataka: A Study

    The purpose of the survey is to ascertain health science library professionals about their knowledge and skills in professionals development in enhancing their knowledge in day to day their work environment. 218 questionnaire were administered personally and 183 dully filled in questionnaire were received with response rate of 84.94% and were considered for analysis. The study findings that The male professionals in the first three categories are shown as between 70-85% and the highest is in the Pharmacy institutions. The Age group 36-40 has in total 54 (29.51%) of all the professionals taken together. The data reveals that 175 (95.63%) have stated in positive that the participation helps them to update their knowledge and skills. It is found 90.71% professionals attend and participate in the Seminars, conferences and the number of conferences attended during last five years are 78(42.6%) with 1-5 of such meetings and 69(37.7%) for the frequencies 6-10. It has identified two types of changes in health science information environment and they are management and organisational changes which affect the library and its management.     Effect of integrated nutrient supply on yield and uptake of cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum L. Maton.)

    Field experiments were conducted for seven years (2000 to 2007) to assess the effect of integrated nutrient supply with Azospirillum and the combination of Azospirillum, FYM and graded levels of nitrogen on yield and uptake of cardamom. Results revealed that application of FYM @ 5 or 10 kg/plant with or without Azospirillum did not influence the yield components as well as yield levels appreciably. Application of FYM @ 5kg/ plant + 75 % recommended N + Azospirillum yielded 163.53 kg/ha similar to that of FYM @ 5 kg / plant + 100 % recommended N (175.42 kg/ha) and FYM @ 5 kg / plant + 50 % recommended N + Azospirillum yielded 141.20 kg/ha similar to that of FYM @ 5 kg / plant + 75 % recommended N (146.34 kg/ha), thereby providing 25 % saving in inorganic nitrogen. Further, FYM @ 5 kg / plant + 100% recommended N + Azospirillum, responded with 186.48 kg/ha but found on par to FYM @ 5 kg/ plant + 100 % recommended N (175.42 kg/ha). The dihedral angles between the five-membered ring and the tolyl and fluoro­benzene rings are 56.74 (12) and 89.88 (12)°, respectively.     Pollen viability and stiglna receptivity period before and after complete flower opening was studied by hand pollinating the flowers/flower buds with its own pollen and fresh viable pollen. Based on the results, the pollen viability periods were 23 h before complete flower opening and 16 h 30 min after complete flower opening. The stigma receptivity periods were 41 h before complete flower opening and 17 h after complete flower opening under hill zone conditions. &nbsp

    Binding of N-dansylgalactosamine to winged-bean tuber lectin: studies by fluorescence quenching titrations

    The winged-bean tuber lectin binds to N-dansyl(5-dimethylaminonaphthalene-1-sulphonic acid)galactosamine, leading to a 12.5-fold increase in dansyl fluorescence with a concomitant 25 nm blue-shift in the emission maximum. The enhancement of fluorescence intensity was completely reversed by the addition of methyl α-galactopyranoside. The lectin has two binding sites per molecule for this fluorescent sugar and an association constant of 2.59 · 105 M−1 at 25° C. The binding of N-dansylgalactosamine to the lectin shows that it can accommodate a large hydrophobic substituent on the C-2 carbon of d-galactose. Studies with other sugars indicate that a hydrophobic substituent with α-conformation at the anomeric position increases the affinity of binding. The C-4 and C-6 hydroxyl groups are also critical for sugar binding to this lectin

    The current study involves the synthesis of novel imidazo4{,}5-cpyridine derivatives (IPD) containing amide/urea/sulfonamide. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for in vitro and in vivo antimycobacterial activities against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The pharmacological activities were determined by the objective to better understand their structure–activity relationship (SAR) for their in vitro antimycobacterial activity against M. tuberculosis. Some synthesized compounds showed significant activity against M. tuberculosis based on the agar dilution method. Among the forty-one compounds screened{,} compounds 21{,} 22 and 23 were found to be the most active compounds against M. tuberculosis. In the in vivo animal model{,} 21{,} 22 and 23 decreased the bacterial load in lung and spleen tissues at the dose of 50 mg kg−1 body weight
