Anisotropic relaxation in NADH excited states studied by polarization-modulation pump-probe transient spectroscopy

We present the results of experimental and theoretical studies of fast anisotropic relaxation and rotational diffusion in the first electron excited state of biological coenzyme NADH in water-ethanol solutions. The experiments have been carried out by means of a novel polarization-modulation transient method and fluorescence polarization spectroscopy. For interpretation of the experimental results a model of the anisotropic relaxation in terms of scalar and vector properties of transition dipole moments and based on the Born-Oppenheimer approximation has been developed. The results obtained suggest that the dynamics of anisotropic rovibronic relaxation in NADH under excitation with 100~fs pump laser pulses can be characterised by a single vibration relaxation time τv\tau_v laying in the range 2--15~ps and a single rotation diffusion time τr\tau_r laying in the range 100--450~ps a subject of ethanol concentration. The dependence of the times τv\tau_v and τr\tau_r on the solution polarity (static permittivity) and viscosity has been determined and analyzed. Limiting values of an important parameter P2(cosθ(t))\langle P_2(\cos\theta(t))\rangle describing the rotation of the transition dipole moment in the course of vibrational relaxation has been determined from experiment as function of the ethanol concentration and analyzed.Comment: 14 pages, 13 figure

Development of multiple-wavelength oscillation in plasma of a pulse-periodic He+Ne+Sr laser

Mechanisms of multiple-wavelength oscillation at the lines of He I, Ne I, Sr I, and Sr II ions in the active medium of a high-voltage pulse-periodic laser based on a He + Ne + Sr mixture at a total pressure of ∼200 Torr and duration of the current pulse of about 150–300 ns are analyzed. An important role played by collisional thermal mixing of the laser levels of Ne I and Sr I in multiplets, as well as by collisions of the second kind between metastable and unexcited atoms, in populating and depopulating atomic levels is demonstrated. Absolute populations of the upper and lower levels of the laser transitions in Ne I are found. It is discovered that the degree of ionization nonequilibrium of plasma, both during and after the pulse of current, determines the mechanism of population inversion in laser transitions

    On Pansiot Words Avoiding 3-Repetitions

The recently confirmed Dejean's conjecture about the threshold between avoidable and unavoidable powers of words gave rise to interesting and challenging problems on the structure and growth of threshold words. Over any finite alphabet with k >= 5 letters, Pansiot words avoiding 3-repetitions form a regular language, which is a rather small superset of the set of all threshold words. Using cylindric and 2-dimensional words, we prove that, as k approaches infinity, the growth rates of complexity for these regular languages tend to the growth rate of complexity of some ternary 2-dimensional language. The numerical estimate of this growth rate is about 1.2421.Comment: In Proceedings WORDS 2011, arXiv:1108.341

On the Growth Rates of Complexity of Threshold Languages

Threshold languages, which are the (k/(k-1))+-free languages over k-letter alphabets with k ≥, are the minimal infinite power-free languages according to Dejean's conjecture, which is now proved for all alphabets. We study the growth properties of these languages. On the base of obtained structural properties and computer-assisted studies we conjecture that the growth rate of complexity of the threshold language over k letters tends to a constant α̌ ≈ 1.242 as k tends to infinity. © 2010 EDP Sciences. The authors heartly thank the referees for their valuable comments and remarks

Simulation of the Process of Training the Future Primary School Teachers for Organizing Extracurricular Activities

The purpose of the article is to develop and validate the model of training future teachers for the organization of extracurricular activities in the conditions of innovative educational environment. The leading method of research of the problem is the simulation, which allows  to present systematically the process of preparation of the future primary teachers for organizing extracurricular activities. The article presents the theoretical and methodological bases of preparation the future primary teachers for organizing extracurricular activities in elementary school. It was found that extracurricular activities are an integral part of the educational process in the school, which contributes to the full implementation of the requirements of the federal educational standards of primary education. The model of training future teachers for organizing extracurricular activity of younger pupils is developed and has a block structure: methodological unit including key scientific approaches and pedagogical conditions; diagnostic unit consisting of the criteria and the levels of indicators; meaningful unit comprising the steps of target work form

Functional Potential of Multilingual Text in Urban Space: a Linguistic-Semiotic Perspective

    Get PDF
This article analyzes the functional potential of multilingual texts within urban spaces from a linguistic-semiotic perspective. The study uses a sample of 1590 multilingual texts, consisting of photographs of graffiti objects found in four cities in Southern Russia: Nalchik, the Novorossiysk agglomeration (Novorossiysk and Myskhako), Pyatigorsk, and Rostov-on-Don. The methods used include continuous sampling of multilingual texts, content analysis of their verbal elements, semiotic analysis of their graphic elements, comparative and contrastive methods, and quantitative data processing techniques. The phenomenon of graffiti is analyzed from linguistic and linguo-semiotic perspectives, with a distinction made between graffiti and street art. The authors describe the ontology of graffiti in the urban environment through a series of important dichotomies: visibility / invisibility, performance / risk / art, and sanction/unsanction. The functions of graffiti are also examined in detail, including their integrative-identifying function, self-presentation function, protest function, subversive function, and advertising / propaganda function. The study concludes that multilingual texts, represented in the form of graffiti within urban spaces, have significant functional potential
