Seeds germination and early development of beggartick on extracted soil solution from an area with cover crops.

Plants produce and store many products of secondary metabolism that are released into the environment and can influence direct or indirectly on nearby organisms. Thus, this study investigated the allelopathic potential of extracted soil solution from an area with cover crops according to germination and early development of beggartick. Soil solution was extracted in an area where black oats, turnip and hairy vetch were grown. The concentrated solution was tested in sand substrate while the dilutions were tested in 100; 200; 300 and 400 ml L-1 germitest paper substrate, plus the control treatment on beggartick. Germination was tested for 10 days and the early development for 20 days. Twenty seeds or seedlings were distributed in gerbox, with three replications and the experimental design was completely randomized (CRD). Soil solution showed considerable changes on beggartick germination only in the last collections, mainly with extracted solution in an area cropped with turnip and hairy vetch. The results, in this case, were more significant when germitest was used than with sand substrate. Therefore, it is recommended these cover crops in crop rotation, aiming to reduce beggartick infestation in a long term

Adaptabilidade e estabilidade de cultivares de milho no Estado de Pernambuco.

Foram avaliadas 15 variedades e 7 híbridos de milho, em 5 localidades, no período 1998/2000 e em 4 outras localidades no período 2001/2003, em blocos ao acaso, com três repetições, visando a conhecer a adaptabilidade e a estabilidade desses materiais para fins de recomendação no Estado de Pernambuco. Os parâmetros de adaptabilidade e estabilidade foram estimados utilizando-se modelos de regressão compostos de dois segmentos de reta: a regressão bilinear. As análises de variância conjuntas mostraram inconsistência no comportamento das cultivares diante das variações ambientais. Os híbridos mostraram melhor adaptação do que as variedades, constituindo-se em boas alternativas para os produtores que investem em tecnologias de produção. As variedades e híbridos que expressaram adaptabilidade ampla consubstanciaram-se em alternativas importantes para a agricultura regional

Effect of an extract of Centella asiatica on the biodistribution of sodium pertechnetate (Na^99mTcO₄) and on the fixation of radioactivity on blood constituents

This study evaluates the effects of an acute treatment with a Centella asiatica (CA) extract on the biodistribution of the radiopharmaceutical Na99mTcO4 and on the fixation of technetium-99m on blood constituents. Wistar rats were treated with CA extract and, 1 hour after, Na99mTcO4 was administered; organs/tissues were withdrawn and weighted. The radioactivity was counted to calculate the percentage of activity per gram (%ATI/g). Also, blood samples were withdrawn, plasma (P), blood cells (BC), insoluble fraction (IF) and soluble fractions of P and BC were isolated and the radioactivity was counted to calculate the percentage of activity (%ATI). Data indicated that the acute treatment with CA extract changed significantly (p99mTcO4 and the fixation of the technetium-99m on blood constituents in an acute treatment
