Microtexture evolutions in 304L and 316L stainless steels during rolling at 200°C and annealing

    Get PDF
The deformation and annealed microtextures were studied in 304L and 316L stainless steels subjected to plate rolling at temperature of 200°C followed by annealing at 700°C for 30-480 min. The evolution of the microstructure and microtexture during rolling at 200°C is associated with the development of deformation twinning and micro-shear bandin

© SGEM2017. All Rights Reserved. This report presents an approach to building specialized computer-aided software engineering(CASE) tools for the development of information-calculating applications including computer aided accounting, business correspondence, statistics etc. These tools form an integrated development environment allowing the computer aided development of different applications in this field. The concept of the integrated development environment is defined as aset of tools and techniques allowing the design and development of software applications. This concept, previously used in procedural programming, has more recently proved to be a very important attribute for object-oriented programming. Integrated development environments traditionally include tools for the design and implementation of software systems, different libraries of classes, programming tools and program generators. Theintegrated environment which we consider in our report consists of a formulainterpreter, a screen form generator and a specialized library of classes. The distinguishing features of information-calculating applicationsare the processing of a set of tables and the making calculations which can be conveniently represented by thetools of relational database systems. The implementation of software productwas carried out using the Visual FoxPro database system and has been practically tested in a series of commercial applications concerning computer aided accountancy and business correspondence

THERMAL STABILITY AND EXTRA-STRENGTH OF AN ULTRAFINE GRAINED STAINLESS STEEL PRODUCED BY HIGH PRESSURE TORSION

International audienceInvestigations of an ultrafine-grained (UFG) Cr-Ni austenitic stainless steel produced by high pressure torsion (HPT) at room and elevated (400 C) temperatures followed by series of annealing up to 700 C are reported. The grain size of the alloy processed at room temperature (55 nm) was found to be about twice lower than the grain size of the alloy (90 nm) processed at elevated temperature. Besides, both as-processed states demonstrated a very high value of microhardness (~590 Hv) , while the steel in initial quenched state had the microhardness about 155 Hv. It is shown that the hardness of the steel in both UFG states does not decrease with annealing up to 650 C, and even a certain increase in hardness was observed for the steel produced at room temperature. At higher temperature (700 C), the recrystallization starts, and precipitation was observed

Shape of primary proton spectrum in multi-TeV region from data on vertical muon flux

It is shown, that primary proton spectrum, reconstructed from sea-level and underground data on muon spectrum with the use of QGSJET 01, QGSJET II, NEXUS 3.97 and SIBYLL 2.1 interaction models, demonstrates not only model-dependent intensity, but also model-dependent form. For correct reproduction of muon spectrum shape primary proton flux should have non-constant power index for all considered models, except SIBYLL 2.1, with break at energies around 10-15 TeV and value of exponent before break close to that obtained in ATIC-2 experiment. To validate presence of this break understanding of inclusive spectra behavior in fragmentation region in p-air collisions should be improved, but we show, that it is impossible to do on the basis of the existing experimental data on primary nuclei, atmospheric muon and hadron fluxes.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Simulation of neutrons produced by high-energy muons underground

This article describes the Monte Carlo simulation used to interpret the measurement of the muon-induced neutron flux in the Boulby Underground Laboratory (North Yorkshire, UK), recently performed using a large scintillator veto deployed around the ZEPLIN-II WIMP detector. Version 8.2 of the GEANT4 toolkit was used after relevant benchmarking and validation of neutron production models. In the direct comparison between Monte Carlo and experimental data, we find that the simulation produces a 1.8 times higher neutron rate, which we interpret as over-production in lead by GEANT4. The dominance of this material in neutron production allows us to estimate the absolute neutron yield in lead as (1.31 +/- 0.06) x 10^(-3) neutrons/muon/(g/cm^2) for a mean muon energy of 260 GeV. Simulated nuclear recoils due to muon-induced neutrons in the ZEPLIN-II target volume (~1 year exposure) showed that, although a small rate of events is expected from this source of background in the energy range of interest for dark matter searches, no event survives an anti-coincidence cut with the veto.Comment: 13 Pages, 11 Figures, 3 Tables. To appear in Astroparticle Physics. Version 2 has minor corrections and clarifications. Figures 1 and 3 now include neutron yields obtained with FLUKA-200

Plasticity of an extra-strong nanocrystalline stainless steel controlled by the "dislocation-segregation'' interaction

We study three structurally different states of nanocrystalline 316 steel and show that the state, where boundaries containing excess concentration of alloying elements are combined with mobile dislocations in grain interiors, allows maintaining extraordinarily high strength and remarkably enhanced plasticity. Underlying mechanisms featuring interaction between the segregations and mobile dislocations are discussed

Muon-Induced Background Study for Underground Laboratories

We provide a comprehensive study of the cosmic-ray muon flux and induced activity as a function of overburden along with a convenient parameterization of the salient fluxes and differential distributions for a suite of underground laboratories ranging in depth from \sim1 to 8 km.w.e.. Particular attention is given to the muon-induced fast neutron activity for the underground sites and we develop a Depth-Sensitivity-Relation to characterize the effect of such background in experiments searching for WIMP dark matter and neutrinoless double beta decay.Comment: 18 pages, 28 figure
