Chromoelectric fields and quarkonium-hadron interactions at high energies
We develop a simple model to study the heavy quarkonium-hadron cross section
in the high energy limit. The hadron is represented by an external electric
color field (capacitor) and the heavy quarkonium is represented by a small
color dipole. Using high energy approximations we compute the relevant cross
sections, which are then compared with results obtained with other methods. Our
calculations are presented in a pedagogical way accessible to undergraduate
students.Comment: To appear in Physical Review C, 24 pages, 10 eps figure
Remote information concentration by GHZ state and by bound entangled state
We compare remote information concentration by a maximally entangled GHZ
state with by an unlockable bound entangled state. We find that the bound
entangled state is as useful as the GHZ state, even do better than the GHZ
state in the context of communication security.Comment: 4 pages,1 figur
Lobbying of Firms by Voters
A firm may induce voters or elected politicians to support a policy it favors by suggesting that it is more likely to invest in a district whose voters or representatives support the policy. In equilibrium, no one vote may be decisive, and the policy may gain strong support though the majority of districts suffer from adoption of the program. When votes reveal information about the district, the firm's implicit promise or threat can be credible
Two-dimensional quantum repeaters
The endeavor to develop quantum networks gave rise to a rapidly developing field with far-reaching applications such as secure communication and the realization of distributed computing tasks. This ultimately calls for the creation of flexible multiuser structures that allow for quantum communication between arbitrary pairs of parties in the network and facilitate also multiuser applications. To address this challenge, we propose a two-dimensional quantum repeater architecture to establish long-distance entanglement shared between multiple communication partners in the presence of channel noise and imperfect local control operations. The scheme is based on the creation of self-similar multiqubit entanglement structures at growing scale, where variants of entanglement swapping and multiparty entanglement purification are combined to create high-fidelity entangled states. We show how such networks can be implemented using trapped ions in cavities
IMPACT OF MICROFINANCE ON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT THROUGH POVERTY ALLEVIATION: AN ASSESSMENT OF SOCIO- ECONOMIC CONDITIONS IN CHENNAI CITY OF TAMIL NADU
The empowerment of women is one of the central issues in the process of development of countries all over the world. Poverty is one of the major reasons of women’s disempowerment. Different micro and macro level strategies are being used by government agencies and NGOs for poverty alleviation of women as a way to empower them. Microfinance has become an important component of development, poverty reduction and economic regeneration strategy around the world. In India, Microfinance programme are implemented through Self Help Groups (SHGs). The SHG is an association of people belonging to similar socio-economic characteristic, residing in same locality. The SHGs are voluntary associations of people formed to attain some common goals. These are groups have similar social identity, heritage, caste or traditional occupations. The present study is analyses the role of microfinance in empowering Muslim women as well as non-Muslim women in a comparative perspective and a comparison between members of SHGs and non-members to gain better insights into the working of SHGs. The concept of microfinance is analysed by using the size of loan received, recovery of loan, and period of loan and the economic, social and knowledge empowerment is used to analyse the empowerment. The results were tabulated by using of logistic regression model. Finally, it is concluded that that microfinance brought knowledge and social empowerment than economic empowerment. Impact of micro finance is appreciable in bringing confidence, courage, skill development and empowerment
The Association between Urban Form and Ischemic Heart Disease: Evidence from Brisbane, Australia
We measured the association between urban form and hospitalisation rates for Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD), stratified by age and sex, and controlling for ethnicity, socio economic status, proximity to hospital and neighbourhood walk ability. This was a retrospective cohort study of the proportion of people within the Brisbane area of Australia who were hospitalised between 2006 to 2011 with a primary diagnosis of IHD. There were strong spatial patterns in the incidence of IHD. The importance of predictor variables differed by sex and age. Urban form was generally not a strong predictor. This study suggests no strong relationship was identified between urban form factors and ischemic heart disease using this research approach
New classes of n-copy undistillable quantum states with negative partial transposition
The discovery of entangled quantum states from which one cannot distill pure
entanglement constitutes a fundamental recent advance in the field of quantum
information. Such bipartite bound-entangled (BE) quantum states \emph{could}
fall into two distinct categories: (1) Inseparable states with positive partial
transposition (PPT), and (2) States with negative partial transposition (NPT).
While the existence of PPT BE states has been confirmed, \emph{only one} class
of \emph{conjectured} NPT BE states has been discovered so far. We provide
explicit constructions of a variety of multi-copy undistillable NPT states, and
conjecture that they constitute families of NPT BE states. For example, we show
that for every pure state of Schmidt rank greater than or equal to three, one
can construct n-copy undistillable NPT states, for any . The abundance
of such conjectured NPT BE states, we believe, considerably strengthens the
notion that being NPT is only a necessary condition for a state to be
distillable.Comment: Latex, 10 page

Robust creation of atomic W state in a cavity by adiabatic passage
We propose two robust schemes to generate controllable (deterministic) atomic
W-states of three three-level atoms interacting with an optical cavity and a
laser beam. Losses due to atomic spontaneous emissions and to cavity decay are
efficiently suppressed by employing adiabatic passage technique and
appropriately designed atom-field couplings. In these schemes the three atoms
traverse the cavity-mode and the laser beam and become entangled in the free
space outside the cavity.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures. Submitted to Optics Communication
