High cycle fatigue of ARMCO iron severely deformed by ECAP

The high-cycle fatigue behavior of ARMCO iron severely deformed by Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) at room temperature through route Bc until 8 passes, with an average grain size of ~365 nm, was studied and compared with the same material in the annealed state with an average grain size of ~72 µm. The fatigue limit of the 8 passes ECAPed sample increased with respect to the annealed material by more than 250% rising from 274 MPa to 717 MPa. Striations and dimpled relief were observed on the fracture surfaces of the fatigued ultrafine and coarse grain fatigue samples. The microstructure was characterized by Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) before and after the fatigue tests and it was observed in both samples an increment in the fraction of Low Angle Grain Boundaries (LAGB) at high number of cycles to failure. A texture analysis for the materials after the fatigue failure was done. Las serpientes, lagartos y tortugas se han convertido o llevan camino de convertirse en pacientes frecuentes en la práctica diaria del veterinario de pequeños animales, con el problema que supone para e! clínico que no dispone de los conocimientos necesarios para afrontar este nuevo reto en la profesión, con excepción naturalmente de los interesados particularmente en el tema, y que de forma individual se han documentado sobre estos animales. Es imposible recrear e! entorno natural de estos animales en cautividad. La cautividad es para ellos muy estresante, lo que los hace muy susceptibles a enfermedades de todo tipo. El propósito de este trabajo es el aportar algunos conocimientos básicos y eminentemente prácticos sobre el hábitat y manejo de estas especies, factores fundamentales para su bienestar, ya que los problemas clínicos que presentan derivan en su mayoría de la falta de condiciones adecuadas en su entorno y de dietas inadecuadas. También se aportan datos sobre el tratamiento y prevención de los procesos descritos. Se incluye descripción y fotografías de algunos casos tratados.Exotics are getting popular as pets and among them reptiles. Snakes, lizards and turtles are nowadays potencial clients in small animal practices, giving a headache to the clinicians who are not familiar with them, unless thoseparticular y interested in the subject. It is impossible to duplicate a reptile's natural environment in captivity. Captivity, therefore, is stressful, predisposing reptiles to all kind of diseases. Our purpose is to give a basic knowledge, mainly practical about adequate habitat and proper handling, which are the most important factors for ther well-being, -most of their clinical problems coming from inadequate bousing, temperature, diet, etc. We also detail treatment and prevention of the main clinical problems ,described. We include description and pictures of so me clinical cases

High resolution system for nanoparticles hyperthermia efficiency evaluation

A system to evaluate nanoparticles efficiency in hyperthermia applications is presented. The method allows a direct measurement of the power dissipated by the nanoparticles through the determination of the first harmonic component of the in quadrature magnetic moment induced by the applied field. The magnetic moment is measured by using an induction method. To avoid errors and reduce the noise signal a double in phase demodulation technique is used. To test the system viability we have measured nanowires, nanoparticles and copper samples of different volumes to prove by comparing experimental and modeled result

Movilidad, ventas cruzadas y competencia en el sector bancario minorista de la Unión Europea

La movilidad de usuarios y la importancia relativa de las estrategias de ventas cruzadas en el sector bancario minorista europeo han sido aspectos centrales de diferentes estudios y han estado sometidos a un escrutinio frecuente por parte de las autoridades de la competencia europeas. En este contexto, el presente artículo parte del análisis del papel desempeñado por los costes de cambio o switching costs (dentro del contexto de banca minorista europea) para ofrecer, a continuación, evidencia cualitativa y cuantitativa reciente respecto a la movilidad de usuarios bancarios, además de una serie de aspectos de comportamiento de mercado relacionados con las ventas múltiples de la banca minorista en los 25 estados miembros de la Unión Europea. Por otra parte, y a partir de un ejercicio econométrico, se analizan las posibles relaciones existentes entre los indicadores de movilidad bancaria y comportamiento de mercado con indicadores de rentabilidad bancaria minorista. A modo de conclusión, se ofrecen una serie de recomendaciones con la finalidad de delimitar diferentes tipos de estrategias bancarias que podrían incidir negativamente sobre la competencia efectiva en el sector.movilidad; costes de cambio; banca minorista europea; rentabilidad;
