Optimization of Production Plan of Hebron Drinks using Operational Research Technique

    Get PDF
Manufacturing companies frequently face challenging operational problems. In such business environment, operations that compete for the same resources must be planned in a way that deadlines are met. Certain expertise in optimization is often required for successful solution of these problems. In this paper, we attempted to optimize the production plan of a manufacturing company - Hebron Drinks, by minimizing the Labour hours, Marching hours and Materials used in producing six different types of products. Linear programming technique was use to model the production plan of Hebron Drinks. The resulted model was solved using simplex method with the aid of computer software (LIP Solver 1.11.1 and 1.11.0). The optimal value obtained shows a reduction in the total cost of production for the period considered

With the restriction in the use of antibiotics in animal nutrition as growth promoters there has been increased interest in the discovery and use of natural alternatives. This experiment was conducted to investigate the influence of Direct fed microbial (RE3) and antibiotics (FYSAL®-DRY SP) on haematological and serum biochemistry of broiler chickens. Two hundred and forty one-day-old unsexed Marshal strain of broiler chicks were used for the experiment. The birds were randomly divided into 3 groups of 4 replicates of 20 birds each to make a total of 80 birds per treatment in a complete randomized design experiment. Three diets were formulated as follows Diet 1 was the control without probiotic or antibiotic, Diet 2- control diet  plus Direct fed microbial (1.5ml/kg of feed) and  Diet 3- control diet plus antibiotics (2g/kg of feed). The experiment lasted for 8 weeks. Blood samples were collected from the birds for haematological studies and serum biochemistry. Results showed that haematological parameters were not adversely (p>0.05) affected by the dietary treatments. The values obtained for serum total protein, globulin and albumin were not significantly (p>0.05) affected among the dietary treatments. However, blood cholesterol level was significantly lowered in diets containing direct fed microbial and antibiotics.  It was concluded that addition of probiotic could be more beneficial in reducing cholesterol in broiler chickens. Classes of Ordinary Differential Equations Obtained for the Probability Functions of Kumaraswamy Inverse Rayleigh Distribution

    Get PDF
In this paper, differential calculus was used to obtain the ordinary differential equations (ODE) of the probability density function (PDF), Quantile function (QF), survival function (SF), inverse survival function (ISF), hazard function (HF) and reversed hazard function (RHF) of Kumaraswamy inverse Rayleigh distribution. The parameters and support that define the distribution inevitably determine the nature, existence, uniqueness and solution of the ODEs. The method can be extended to other probability distributions, functions and can serve an alternative to estimation and approximation. Computer codes and programs can be used for the implementation

BOUNDARY PROPERTIES OF BOUNDED INTERVAL SUPPORT PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTIONS

    Get PDF
This paper explores the properties of probability distributions as the random variables that defined those distributions approaching their bounded interval support. The models under study are: Kumaraswamy, Kumaraswamy Kumaraswamy, Kumaraswamy with beta and Kumaraswamy with beta distributions. The behavior of the probability density function of the random variables differs greatly at both the lower and the upper boundary points of the support. The results displayed in this research are the same for all the aforementioned pdfs and their cumulative distribution functions, survival functions and hazard functions. The results agreed with some well-known results in the literature. The probability density function, cumulative distribution function, survival function and hazard function approximate to the different values at the boundary points as the support approaches the boundary point

Some Notes on the 3-Factor Analysis of9x9 Sudoku

    Get PDF
In this study, we consider a 9x9 post-filled Sudoku puzzle as an example of a three factorial design without blocking. Because of the rigidity of Sudoku, the all main effects and two factors interactions are all statistically insignificant. The three factor interaction is can be statistically significant or not. The use of column or row additions in the computation of the 3-factor interactions of a chosen Sudoku yields complementary results. If the rows addition gives an interaction effect that is statistically significant then the column result will be insignificant and vice versa. The treatment effects of the 3-factor effect of a post-filled Sudoku depend on whether the column or row sllllls are used in the computation of the interaction effect

Using the Average of the Extreme Values of a Triangular Distribution for a Transformation, and Its Approximant via the Continuous Uniform Distribution

    Get PDF
This paper introduces a new probability distribution referred to as a transformed triangular distribution (TTD) by using the average of the extreme values (minimum and maximum) of the triangular distribution. The TTD is being approximated by the continuous uniform distribution. The basic moments of the TTD and those of the continuous uniform distribution are compared respectively, and a relationship established. This can be used in modeling and simulation

On the Application of Martingale theory to Investment Strategy

Most often than not, an investor holding stock must decide whether to sell or keep holding the stock. This investment strategy over the years appears to be an easy task to take. In the investment parlance, it is called the Broker’s Common Sense (BCS). We have shown in this paper that the so-called BCS strategy is backed with advanced mathematical (probabilistic) phenomenon; we used the martingale theory to describe the strateg

The Gompertz flexible Weibull distribution and its applications

    Get PDF
This paper introduces the Gompertz flexible Weibull distribution as an extension of the flexible Weibull distribution. Its various statistical properties are obtained and established while the method of maximum likelihood estimation is used in estimating the unknown model parameters. The application of Gompertz flexible Weibull distribution is illustrated by making use of three real life data sets, this is done to demonstrate its potentials over some other important distributions like the Gompertz Weibull, Gompertz Burr type XII, Gompertz Lomax, exponentiated flexible Weibull, exponentiated flexible Weibull extension and Kumaraswamy flexible Weibull distributions. Simulation studies were also conducted and the behavior of the Gompertz flexible Weibull parameters were investigated
