A synthetic biology approach to the rational design of analogues of olfactory ligands by providing unnatural substrates for the enzyme synthesising (S)-germacrene D, an olfactory ligand acting as a plant derived insect repellent, to produce novel ligands is described as a viable alternative to largely unsuccessful ligand docking studies. (S)-14,15-Dimethylgermacrene D shows an unexpected reversal in behavioural activity

Miscellanea Miridologica II. New combinations and new synonymies in the tribe Mirini (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae)

Six new synonymies and four new combinations are proposed: Guianella Carvalho 1946 = Boliviomiris Carvalho, 1987 and Pilosicerus Carvalho, 1992 (new subjective junior synonyms). Guianella pilosa Maldonado & Carvalho, 1981 = G. antennalis (Carvalho, 1987) and G. rondoniensis (Carvalho, 1992) (new subjective junior synonyms). Urucuiana Carvalho & Rosas, 1965 = Bahiamiris Carvalho, 1975 (new subjective junior synonym). Urucuiana tuberculata Carvalho & Rosas, 1965 = U. cajabiana (Carvalho, 1977) (new subjective junior synonym). Odd-Leg Birdcages for Geometric Decoupling in Multinuclear Imaging and Spectroscopy

The utility of interleaved odd-number leg birdcage coils is demonstrated for decoupling in double- and triple-tuned multinuclear applications. The birdcage was designed to geometrically decouple from a planar double-tuned (1H-23Na) array and from a 31P saddle coil insert to create a triple-tuned configuration. Comparisons between an actively detuned coil and a purely geometrically decoupled architecture were used to demonstrate the capabilities of the design. In particular cases, the simplicity and adaptability of the interleaved nine-leg design for multinuclear nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) offer a straightforward alternative to the often complex and lossy designs currently available for multinuclear birdcages and volume coils
