Accretion, disks, and magnetic activity in the TW Hya association
We present new photometric and spectroscopic data for the M-type members of
the TW Hya association with the aim of a comprehensive study of accretion,
disks and magnetic activity at the critical age of ~10 Myr where circumstellar

X-rays from accretion shocks in T Tauri stars: The case of BP Tau
We present an XMM-Newton observation of the classical T Tauri star BP Tau. In
the XMM-Newton RGS spectrum the O {\sc vii} triplet is clearly detected with a
very weak forbidden line indicating high plasma densities and/or a high UV flux
environment. At the same time concurrent UV data point to a small hot spot
filling factor suggesting an accretion funnel shock as the site of the X-ray
and UV emission. Together with the X-ray data on TW Hya these new observations
suggest such funnels to be a general feature in classical T Tauri stars.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, accepted by A&
Singe Top Production at LEP 200
We present exact tree level cross sections for the single top production
process at LEP~200. The
results reproduce roughly those obtained earlier by using the equivalent real
photon approximation and we confirm the observation that detecting a top
heavier than half the c.m.~energy is not feasible at LEP~200. The calculation
has been performed by a new automatic Feynman amplitude generator MadGraph
which produces HELAS code for the helicity amplitudes.Comment: 7 pages, 4 postscript figure
Fully differential QCD corrections to single top quark final states
A new next-to-leading order Monte Carlo program for calculation of fully
differential single top quark final states is described and first results

Establishing the nature of companion candidates to X-ray emitting late B-type stars
The most favored interpretation for the detection of X-ray emission from late
B-type stars is that these stars have a yet undiscovered late-type companion
(or an unbound nearby late-type star) that produces the X-rays. Several faint
IR objects at (sub)-arcsecond separation from B-type stars have been uncovered
in our earlier adaptive optics imaging observations, and some of them have been
followed up with the high spatial resolution of the Chandra X-ray observatory,
pinpointing the X-ray emitter. However, firm conclusions on their nature
requires a search for spectroscopic signatures of youth. Here we report on our
recent ISAAC observations carried out in low resolution spectroscopic mode.
Equivalent widths have been used to obtain information on spectral types of the
companions. All eight X-ray emitting systems with late B-type primaries studied
contain dwarf like companions with spectral types later than A7. The only
system in the sample where the companion turns out to be of early spectral type
is not an X-ray source. These results are consistent with the assumption that
the observed X-ray emission from late B-type stars is produced by an active

X-ray accretion signatures in the close CTTS binary V4046 Sgr
We present Chandra HETGS observations of the classical T Tauri star (CTTS)
V4046 Sgr. The He-like triplets of O VII, Ne IX, and Si XIII are clearly
detected. Similar to the CTTS TW Hya and BP Tau, the forbidden lines of O VII
and Ne IX are weak compared to the intercombination line, indicating high
plasma densities in the X-ray emitting regions. The Si XIII triplet, however,
is within the low-density limit, in agreement with the predictions of the
accretion funnel infall model with an additional stellar corona. V4046 Sgr is
the first close binary exhibiting these features. Together with previous
high-resolution X-ray data on TW Hya and BP Tau, and in contrast to T Tau, now
three out of four CTTS show evidence of accretion funnels.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
