Observations on antifertility and abortifacient herbal drugs
This communication presents first hand information gathered on 36 medicinal plants belonging to 23 families traditionally used by the tribal and rural women of northern areas of North West Frontier Province (NWFP), Pakistan for birth control. Study provides information on local names, mode of administration and dosages as `practiced by rural and tribal women. Most effective plant species to induce abortion include: Artemisia maritime L., Boerhavaia diffusa Auct. Plur., Buddleja asiatica Lour, Chrysanthemum parthenium (L.) Bernh, Justacia adhatod L., Ricinus communis L., Zingiber officinale Roscol., Daucus crota L., Momordica charantia L., Plumbago zeylanica L., Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn., Plantago ovata Forssk, Tanacetum vulgare and Arctium lappa L. The most widely used contraceptives are: Amaranthus viridis L., Achyranthes aspera L., Ricinus communis L., Mentha arvensis L., Nepeta cataria L., Cuscuta reflexa Roxb., Curcuma longa L., Foeniculum vulgare Miller., Butea monosperma (Lam.) O. Kze., Albizia lebbeck (L.) Bth., Ficus religosa L. and Mentha longifolia (L.) Huds. The tribalpopulation of the region primarily depends upon these plants for family planning. They use herbal drugs to induce abortion and as contraceptives. Further studies on chemical and pharmacologicalactions are suggested to validate the claims
Competition Kinetics: An Experimental Approach
In this chapter, free radical kinetics with the help of competition kinetics and some experimental results calculated by competition kinetics to find out the rate constant of reactive species (●OH, eaq−, ●H) with target compound, which is used by radiation chemists is briefly discussed. The competition kinetics method is well validated by taking ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin and bezafibrate as example compounds. The bimolecular rate constants of hydroxyl radical, hydrate electron and hydrogen atom has been calculated for example solute species (ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin and bezafibrate)
Synergistic effects of H\u3csub\u3e2\u3c/sub\u3eO\u3csub\u3e2\u3c/sub\u3e and S\u3csub\u3e2\u3c/sub\u3eO\u3csub\u3e8\u3c/sub\u3e\u3csup\u3e2−\u3c/sup\u3e in the gamma radiation induced degradation of congo-red dye: Kinetics and toxicities evaluation
© 2019 Elsevier B.V. Gamma radiation has received increasing attention due to their high potential in degradation of recalcitrant pollutants. Thus in the present study, gamma radiation was used for degradation of congo-red (CR) dye, a highly toxic and carcinogenic pollutant, in the presence of H2O2 and S2O82−. The CR was significantly degraded by gamma radiation (i.e., 53%), however, presence of H2O2 and S2O82− promoted degradation of CR to 98 and 87%, respectively, at 1184 Gy absorbed dose. The radical scavengers and electron spin resonance studies revealed that gamma radiation decompose H2O2 and S2O82− into [rad]OH and SO4[rad]− and both [rad]OH and SO4[rad]− caused degradation of CR. The CR showed high reactivity, i.e., 3.25 × 109 and 8.50 × 108 M−1 s−1 with [rad]OH and SO4[rad]−, respectively, and removal of CR was inhibited in the presence of [rad]OH and SO4[rad]− scavengers. The removal of CR was promoted with elevating initial concentrations of H2O2 and S2O82− and decreasing initial concentrations of CR. pH of aqueous solution also significantly influenced removal of the dye. The proposed degradation pathways of CR were established from the [rad]OH mediated degradation of CR and nature of identified degradation products. The greater mineralization of CR, formation of small molecular mass degradation product, and decline in concentration of acetate after extended treatment suggest the gamma-ray mediated peroxide based process to be a promising alternative for potential degradation of CR
Predicting most productive requirements elicitation teams using MBTI personality traits model
The social and collaborative nature of requirements elicitation process bases its core dependency on aptitude, attitudes, and personality characteristics of its participants. The participant's personality characteristics are directly related with their personality traits, which can be categorized using different model has been used successfully for the assessments of personality of software engineers since last few decades. In this article, the personality traits for requirements elicitation teams have been predicted using MBTI personality assessments model, on the basis of their industry demands job descriptions/tasks and major soft skills. The article presents a complete personality prediction process using a systematic approach based on major soft skills mapping with job descriptions, personality attributes and personality. The obtained results show that extroversion and feelings personality traits are the most suitable assigned the task of requirements elicitation. The obtained results are very much aligned with the already published scholar's work for software engineer's personality assessments and development team composition
CSR Practices of a Company Toward Stakeholders: The Case of Pakistan Tobacco Company (PTC)
The performance of the companies in corporate sector is reliant greatly on the practices of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR); therefore in today’s business environment companies are paying more attention to the sense of CSR. These companies also consider the aspects of socio-culture environment into business practices and compliance with other regulatory and ethical issues. However, it has been found that CSR is being practiced in Pakistani firms in tobacco industry because the concept is new for the emerging economies like Pakistan. The paper consists of brief study about the CSR practices on stakeholder dimension of Pakistan Tobacco Company (PTC). The basic aim of this paper is to examine that how companies engage their stakeholders in CSR activities and what is the role of stakeholders in CSR policies. This research was conducted by using a qualitative method and the case study of PTC. Data has been collected from relevant scientific articles, research books, and online resources regarding CSR and stakeholders theoretical framework while empirical data was gathered through interviews and company annual reports. However, PTC products are injurious for customers’ health but their efforts for the environment and community make a good image of the company in the minds of customer and stakeholders. Reducing machining distortion in AA 6061 alloy through re-heating technique
Solution-treated AA 6061 alloy contains residual stresses which cause unwanted deformation during the machining operation rendering the parts unacceptable for use. Usually for AA 6061 alloy, stress relieving is performed by re-heating the parts at 343°C for 1 h. This stress relieving is however accompanied by a considerable loss of material strength which subsequently reduces the functionality of the parts. This paper is based on an effort to evaluate the effectiveness of lower re-heating temperatures for stress relieving without significant loss of strength. Temperatures within the range of 200–343°C were used and treated samples were tested for both the strength and machining distortion.
