Certain-e-s professionnel-le-s (par exemple : policier-Ăšre-s, enseignant-e-s, personnels des Ă©tablissements de santĂ©) prĂ©sentent des risques accrus d’ĂȘtre confrontĂ©s Ă  des actes de violence Ă  leur Ă©gard. Le travail isolĂ© et le contact avec des clients, en particulier lorsque ces derniers sont sous l’emprise de la drogue ou de l’alcool, quand ils sont connus pour avoir eu un passĂ© violent ou qu’ils souffrent de maladies pouvant ĂȘtre associĂ©es Ă  des comportements agressifs constituent ainsi des facteurs de risque. Le risque d’ĂȘtre confrontĂ© Ă  la violence ou Ă  des comportements agressifs concerne aussi les professionnel-le-s en contact avec des personnes atteintes dans leur santĂ©, Ă  domicile ou en institution. Des enquĂȘtes menĂ©es dans les Ă©tablissements mĂ©dico-sociaux (EMS) ou auprĂšs des professionnel-le-s du maintien Ă  domicile, Ă  l’étranger et en Suisse rapportent des taux relativement Ă©levĂ©s d’exposition Ă  la violence chez les soignant-e-s. On ne dispose en revanche d’aucune donnĂ©e concernant cette problĂ©matique pour la Suisse Romande ou pour le Canton de Vaud

    On the distribution and characteristics of isozyme expression in Mycoplasma, Acholeplasma, and Ureaplasma species.

    A summary of a survey of three genera of mycoplasmatales (Mycoplasma, Acholeplasma, and Ureaplasma) for isozyme expression is presented. Isozyme analysis of mycoplasmas has been employed in at least three distinct areas: (1) as genetic markers for identification, individualization, and taxonomic classification; (2) as markers for cell culture contamination; and (3) as a qualitative measure of the operative metabolic pathways in the diverse species. We have found five ubiquitous enzymes: purine nucleoside phosphorylase, adenylate kinase, inorganic pyrophosphatase, dipeptidase, and esterase. Three enzymes, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, and superoxide dismutase, were restricted to Acholeplasma species and were not detected in Mycoplasma or Ureaplasma. Four glycolytic enzymes, glucose phosphate isomerase, triose phosphate isomerase, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, and lactate dehydrogenase, were restricted to those species of Mycoplasma and Acholeplasma capable of glucose fermentation. Two of these glycolytic enzymes, glucose phosphate isomerase and lactate dehydrogenase, were detected in serovars I and II of U. urealyticum, which is inconsistent with the non-glycolytic activity in this genus

    Miniaturized gas chromatography (GC) systems can provide fast, quantitative analysis of chemical vapors in an ultrasmall package. We describe a chemical sensor technology based on resonant nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) mass detectors that provides the speed, sensitivity, specificity, and size required by the microscale GC paradigm. Such NEMS sensors have demonstrated detection of subparts per billion (ppb) concentrations of a phosphonate analyte. By combining two channels of NEMS detection with an ultrafast GC front-end, chromatographic analysis of 13 chemicals was performed within a 5 s time window

    Les rĂ©sultats prĂ©sentĂ©s dans ce rapport s’appuient sur plusieurs sources de donnĂ©es. Nous avons conduit des enquĂȘtes nationales auprĂšs des hommes qui ont des rapports sexuels avec des hommes (HSH, Ă©tudes Gaysurvey 2012 et 2014), auprĂšs des migrant-e-s originaires d’Afrique subsaharienne (migrant-e-s ASS, Ă©tude ANSWER 2014), auprĂšs des travailleuses et des travailleurs du sexe (TS, Ă©tude SWAN 2016), ainsi qu’auprĂšs des consommatrices et des consommateurs de drogue frĂ©quentant les structures Ă  bas seuil (UD, Ă©tude SBS 2011). A cela s’ajoute une analyse secondaire des donnĂ©es sur les comportements sexuels de l’enquĂȘte suisse sur la santĂ© (ESS 2012). Nous avons Ă©galement collectĂ© des donnĂ©es de monitoring sur le nombre de seringues remises aux UDI dans diffĂ©rents settings (structures Ă  bas seuil, programmes de prescription d’hĂ©roĂŻne et pharmacies), ainsi que des donnĂ©es relatives Ă  la mise sur le marchĂ© de prĂ©servatifs en Suisse. Nous avons conduit ou participĂ© Ă  la rĂ©alisation de cinq Ă©tudes additionnelles qui apportent un Ă©clairage complĂ©mentaire aux rĂ©sultats prĂ©sentĂ©s dans ce rapport : Ă©valuation de la campagne « Break the chains » 2015 ; analyse des donnĂ©es disponibles pour estimer le nombre de prĂ©servatifs Ă©coulĂ©s sur le marchĂ© suisse ; entretiens avec des experts concernant l’évolution des comportements prĂ©ventifs chez les UDI ; inventaire des dispositifs de remise de matĂ©riel d’injection stĂ©rile en milieu carcĂ©ral ; rapid assessment de la situation des personnes transgenres par rapport au risque d’infection par le VIH et les autres IST. Nous nous sommes enfin appuyĂ©s sur des rĂ©sultats publiĂ©s sous l’égide de la Swiss HIV cohort study et de l’étude Health behaviour in school-aged children

    Magnetic structure of Yb2Pt2Pb: Ising moments on the Shastry-Sutherland lattice.

    Neutron diffraction measurements were carried out on single crystals and powders of Yb2Pt2Pb, where Yb moments form two interpenetrating planar sublattices of orthogonal dimers, a geometry known as Shastry-Sutherland lattice, and are stacked along the c axis in a ladder geometry. Yb2Pt2Pb orders antiferromagnetically at TN=2.07K, and the magnetic structure determined from these measurements features the interleaving of two orthogonal sublattices into a 5×5×1 magnetic supercell that is based on stripes with moments perpendicular to the dimer bonds, which are along (110) and (−110). Magnetic fields applied along (110) or (−110) suppress the antiferromagnetic peaks from an individual sublattice, but leave the orthogonal sublattice unaffected, evidence for the Ising character of the Yb moments in Yb2Pt2Pb that is supported by point charge calculations. Specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, and electrical resistivity measurements concur with neutron elastic scattering results that the longitudinal critical fluctuations are gapped with ΔE≃0.07meV

    Lessons Learned: Using the Caprini Risk Assessment Model to Provide Safe and Efficacious Thromboprophylaxis Following Hip and Knee Arthroplasty

Two of the more common potential complications after arthroplasty are venous thromboembolism (VTE), which includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolus (PE), and excess bleeding. Appropriate chemoprophylaxis choices are essential to prevent some of these adverse events and from exacerbating others. Risk stratification to prescribe safe and effective medications in the prevention of postoperative VTE has shown benefit in this regard. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Syosset Hospital/Northwell Health, which performs over 1200 arthroplasties annually, has validated and is using the 2013 version of the Caprini Risk Assessment Model (RAM) to stratify each patient for risk of postoperative VTE. This tool results in a culling of information, past and present, personal and familial, that provides a truly thorough evaluation of the patient’s risk for postoperative VTE. The Caprini score then guides the medication choices for thromboprophylaxis. The Caprini score is only valuable if the data is properly collected, and we have learned numerous lessons after applying it for 18 months. Risk stratification requires practice and experience to achieve expertise in perioperative patient evaluation. Having access to pertinent patient information, while gaining proficiency in completing the Caprini RAM, is vital to its efficacy. Ongoing, real time analyses of patient outcomes, with subsequent change in process, is key to improving patient care
