    Literary Experiences of Encyclopedist of 18th Century: Jean-Francois Marmontel

    The article is devoted to identifying the features of the formation of Jean-Francois Marmontel as a writer, journalist and encyclopedist who made a significant contribution to the literary education of the French society. The relevance of the research topic is due to the study of the views of the scientist that influenced the reception of established and new literary genres of the 18th century. The research methodology is based on a narrative approach in the historiographical perspective, as well as a biographical (cultural-anthropocentric) method that reveals the writer's biography as a typical manifestation of the socio-cultural processes of the age of the Enlightenment. The use of these methods determined the novelty of the study, as it contributed to the consideration of the dynamics of the views of the French educator J.-F. Marmontel and the determination of the degree of his literary contribution to the development of new genres of the moralizing novel and the epic novel, as well as the French Encyclopedia (Encyclopédie, ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des metiers). It is proved that for J. F. Marmontel the task of the writer was to educate the reader through his introduction to “belle literacy” (belles lettres). The material of the study was the literary works of J. F. Marmontel in French and Russian: poetic works, moralizing stories, novels, including his articles on literature, published in the first edition of the Encyclopedia. An analysis of the content of the French writer's works shows that they are educational and critical in nature, since their author skillfully mastered many literary genres in practice

    Fakes within Context of Historical Knowledge Interacting with Language and Thought Structures: Interdisciplinary Model

    The phenomenon of fake news is considered as a multifaceted scientific problem that cannot be solved without using an interdisciplinary approach. The relevance of the study is due to the high degree of influence of falsifications on the information perception of a person, and consequently, on the cognitive safety of society. A fake is analyzed as a complex construct that does not have clear signs, but has an intentional effect on a person. Particular attention is paid to the characteristics of the interaction of cognitive mechanisms and language forms in the practice of interaction with fakes. The concept of “post-truth” is considered as an instrument of influence of multiple subjects on the audience by proclaiming the multiplicity of truths. The practices of combating illegal information content, based on the experience of various states are described. It is noted that in Russia, history is considered a key factor in the state policy of cognitive security. The article substantiates the need to find complementary resources in linguistic and historical sciences for effective countermeasures against information manipulation and presentation of unreliable information. The authors concluded that the priority task of interdisciplinary research at the present stage is the creation of a complementary empirical scientific base taking into account the methods of cognitive linguistics and the testing of theoretical models on recipients

    The ADDIE Model in Instructional Design: NUST MISIS Case Study

    Theoretical and methodological analysis of research devoted to pedagogical design has revealed a shortage of empirical design model implementation descriptions. The article examines the case of ADDIE model application to design an «English Language» course for master degree students at University of Science and Technology MISIS. New approaches to course design are vital to raise education competitiveness, which in turn is subject to objective contemporary social trends. The first stage of ADDIE model (Analysis) was based on needs assessment conducted among master degree students in the form of questionnaires, as well as 2020-2023 course curricula analysis in terms of competencies indicated by major courses departments for the subject area “English Language” in accordance with the FSES HE 3++ requirements. The article gives insight into course description, structure and principles which reflect the coherent progress of Design, Development and Implementation stages. Evaluation process is demonstrated through post-course questionnaire analysis to assess the dynamics of student satisfaction, as well as the analysis of course examination/completion results in 2020-2021 approbation year, after conceptual and content changes were made. The data show that the program fully complies with the expectations of master degree students of non-linguistics majors from the «English Language» course, allows to ensure positive foreign language acquisition and enhanced course completion. The conclusion drawn is that the application of five-stage-ADDIE framework makes for smooth and clear course design, given 1 semester and mixed-level master degree students of different non-linguistics majors

    DISCOVERY OF POLARIZATION REVERBERATION IN NGC 4151

    Observations of the optical polarization of NGC 4151 in 1997–2003 show variations of an order of magnitude in the polarized flux while the polarization position angle remains constant. The amplitude of variability of the polarized flux is comparable to the amplitude of variability of the total U-band flux, except that the polarized flux follows the total flux with a lag of 8±3 days. The time lag and the constancy of the position angle strongly favor a scattering origin for the variable polarization rather than a non-thermal synchrotron origin. The orientation of the position angle of the polarized flux (parallel to the radio axis) and the size of the lag imply that the polarization arises from electron scattering in a flattened region within the low-ionization component of the broad-line-region. Polarization from dust scattering in the equatorial torus is ruled out as the source of the lag in polarized flux because it would produce a larger lag and polarization perpendicular to the radio axis. We note a long-term change in the percentage polarization at similar total flux levels and we attribute this to a change in the number of scatterers on a timescale of years

    The ultradian rhythm of glucocorticoid secretion and the time course of target gene regulation

    Glucocorticoid hormones (cortisol in humans and corticosterone in rodents) are secreted in discrete pulses during a day with a periodicityof approximately 1 h (ultradian rhythm), and this pattern is also maintained in plasma and extracellular fluid. However, the vast majority of studies on gene regulation by glucocorticoids typically assess gene responses regardless the ultradian rhythm. These experiments are usually performed using long-term stimulation with synthetic hormones (dexamethasone and triamcinolone), which form much more stable complexes with glucocorticoid receptor (GR) then natural hormones. This review summarizes the current scarce information, obtained in experiments mimicking the ultradian mode of natural hormone secretion in cultured cells and in animal models. The results of these experiments clearly demonstrate that ultradian stimulation by natural hormones induces rapid GR exchange with glucocorticoid response elements and leads to cyclic GR mediated transcriptional regulation (gene pulsing) at the level of nascent RNA. In contrast, synthetic glucocorticoids, having much higher receptor affinity, fail to disengage from nuclear receptors with sufficient speed to support the ultradian cycles, thereby uncoupling extracellular hormone fluctuations from appropriate receptor function at response elements. This alters RNA accumulation profiles dramatically. These findings suggest potentially important consequences of ultradian secretion. The transcriptional program induced by hormone pulses differs significantly from that generated by constant hormone treatment. Thus, treatment with synthetic glucocorticoids may not provide an accurate assessment of physiological hormone action

    Glucocorticoid receptor: translocation from the cytoplasm to the nuclei, chromatin and intranuclear chaperone cycles

    Glucocorticoid receptor (GR) is a ligand-dependent transcription factor, involved in the regulation of hundreds of genes. In the absence of any ligand, GR resides in the cytoplasm where it is sequestered in a multimeric chaperone complex consisting of hsp90, hsp70, p23, Hop, FKBP51, FKBP52, etc. As part of this multiprotein complex, GR undergoes conformational changes that allow glucocorticoid hormone binding. Upon ligand binding, GR dissociates from chaperon complex and translocates into the nucleus, where it interacts with specific DNA sequences (GREs) in the regulatory regions of target genes and modulates their expression. Then unliganded GR is exported to the cytoplasm, completing the nuclear-cytoplasmic cycle. Recent evidence suggests that, in addition to this cycle, chromatin and chaperone GR cycles exist within the nuclei. The chromatin cycle implies repeated interactions of ligand-bound GR with GREs in the chromatin context lasting for few seconds. The chaperone cycle starts after dissociation of the hormone–receptor complex, when GR binds to the nuclear chaperone machinery. As a result, its hormone-binding affinity is regained. Upon hormone binding, GR releases from chaperon complex and binds to GREs again. It is assumed that the chaperone cycle is mainly responsible for prolonged GR retention in nuclei (half-life within 8–12 h upon steroid withdrawal).
