    Data-driven design of the Belle II track segment finder

    The Belle II experiment relies on a level-1 trigger system to reduce noise background and preselect events of interest for particle physics. The Central Drift Chamber is the main track detector which makes its trigger system important for online track reconstruction. To improve its hit efficiency, an extension of the track segment finder for low angle tracks is proposed. By combining hardware and software development flows, an automated data-driven pipeline is created and three different-sized hardware concepts are implemented. The operation point is adjustable to balance hit efficiency against hit purity in the trigger system

    Suscetibilidade in vitro a antifúngicos, de amostras clínicas e ambientais de Cryptococcus neoformans isoladas no sul do Brasil

    The purpose of the present study was to compare the susceptibility to four antifungal agents of 69 Cryptococcus neoformans strains isolated from AIDS patients with that of 13 C. neoformans strains isolated from the environment. Based on the NCCLS M27-A methodology the Minimal Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs) obtained for amphotericin B, itraconazole and ketoconazole were very similar for clinical and environmental isolates. Clinical isolates were less susceptible to fluconazole than environmental isolates. The significance of these findings and aspects concerning the importance, role and difficulties of C. neoformans susceptibility testing are also discussed.Comparou-se a suscetibilidade de 69 amostras de C. neoformans isoladas de pacientes com SIDA com 13 amostras de C. neoformans isoladas do meio ambiente, frente a quatro agentes antifúngicos. Com base na metodologia preconizada pelo NCCLS (M27-A) as concentrações inibitórias mínimas (CIMs) obtidas para a anfotericina B, itraconazol e cetoconazol foram muito semelhantes nos dois grupos estudados. Todavia, frente ao fluconazol, os isolados clínicos evidenciaram menor sensibilidade do que os provenientes do meio ambiente. Alguns aspectos envolvendo a importância e dificuldades dos testes de suscetibilidade com Cryptococcus neoformans são também discutidos pelos autores

    Peer-to-peer, community self-consumption, and transactive energy: A systematic literature review of local energy market models

    Peer-to-peer, community or collective self-consumption, and transactive energy markets offer new models for trading energy locally. Over the past five years, there has been significant growth in the amount of academic literature examining how these local energy markets might function. This systematic literature review of 139 peer-reviewed journal articles examines the market designs used in these energy trading models. A modified version of the Business Ecosystem Architecture Modelling framework is used to extract market model information from the literature, and to identify differences and similarities between the models. This paper examines how peer-to-peer, community self-consumption and transactive energy markets are described in current literature. It explores the similarities and differences between these markets in terms of participation, governance structure, topology, and design. This paper systematises peer-to-peer, community self-consumption and transactive energy market designs, identifying six archetypes. Finally, it identifies five evidence gaps which require future research before these markets could be widely adopted. These evidence gaps are the lack of: consideration of physical constraints; a holistic approach to market design and operation; consideration about how these market designs will scale; consideration of information security; and, consideration of market participant privacy

    Noise propagation issues in Belle II pixel detector power cable

    The vertex detector used in the upgrade of High-Energy physics experiment Belle II includes DEPFET pixel detector (PXD) technology. In this complex topology the power supply units and the front-end electronics are connected through a PXD power cable bundle which may propagate the output noise from the power supplies to the vertex area. This paper presents a study of the propagation of noise caused by power converters in the PXD cable bundle based on Multi-conductor Transmission Line (MTL) theory. The work exposes the effect of the complex cable topology and shield connections on the noise propagation, which has an impact on the requirements of the power supplies. This analysis is part of the electromagnetic compatibility based design focused on functional safety to define the shield connections and power supply specifications required to ensure the successful integration of the detector and, specifically, to achieve the designed performance of the front-end electronics

    Susceptibility characterization of beam pipe radiated noise for the PXD detector in Belle II experiment

    The new Pixel Vertex Detector (PXD) used in the upgrade of the high energy physics experiment Belle II is based on the DEPFET technology. Since the PXD is 2 mm far from the beam pipe, the effects of radiated interferences may be taken into account. Though the EM wave associated to the beam is very well confined (skin depth), the beam pipe is grounded to the accelerator and it may have noise currents on its external face due to pumps, auxiliary electronics, power converters, etc. which may produce radiated noise (H field). This analysis is part of the EMC approach that covers the analysis of the emissions and immunity characteristics, as well as the coupling phenomena and grounding issues to define the susceptibility levels required to ensure the successful integration of the detector and, specifically, to achieve the designed performance of the front-end electronics

    Emerging business models in local energy markets: A systematic review of peer-to-peer, community self-consumption, and transactive energy models

    The emergence of peer-to-peer, collective or community self-consumption, and transactive energy concepts gives rise to new configurations of business models for local energy trading among a variety of actors. Much attention has been paid in the academic literature to the transition of the underlying energy system with its macroeconomic market framework. However, fewer contributions focus on the microeconomic aspects of the broad set of involved actors. Even though specific case studies highlight single business models, a comprehensive analysis of emerging business models for the entire set of actors is missing. Following this research gap, this paper conducts a systematic literature review of 135 peer-reviewed journal articles to examine business models of actors operating in local energy markets. From 221 businesses in the reviewed literature, nine macro-actor categories are identified. For each type of market actor, a business model archetype is determined and characterised using the business model canvas. The key elements of each business model archetype are discussed, and areas are highlighted where further research is needed. Finally, this paper outlines the differences of business models for their presence in the three local energy market models. Focusing on the identified customers and partner relationships, this study highlights the key actors per market model and the character of the interactions between market participants

    We present the complete NLO QCD analysis of the photon structure functions F2γ(x,Q2)F_2^\gamma(x,Q^2) and FLγ(x,Q2)F_L^\gamma(x,Q^2) for a real photon target. In particular we study the heavy flavor content of the structure functions which is due to two different production mechanisms, namely collisions of a virtual photon with a real photon, and with a parton. We observe that the charm contributions are noticeable for F2γ(x,Q2)F_2^\gamma(x,Q^2) as well as FLγ(x,Q2)F_L^\gamma(x,Q^2) in the x-region studied.Comment: Latex 34 pages, 24 figures, uuencoded, attached at end, ITP-SB-93-46, FERMILAB-Pub-93/240-T, SMU HEP 93-1
