    Modelling effects of wind fields in cloth animations

    In this paper we show how to incorporate effects of wind fields in cloth animations. We discuss two different approaches to model force fields describing air motion and show how these models can be augmented to exhibit interaction with deformable thin objects such as textiles. The first model is based on the Navier-Stokes equations, while the second method extends simple particle tracing methods by the effect of lee. In each case, we present a method for simulating the interaction of cloth movements with the wind field. Both methods have been integrated in an existing cloth simulation system, and we compare their respective advantages and disadvantages

    In this paper we present an image-based algorithm for surface reconstruction of moving garment from multiple calibrated video cameras. Using a color-coded cloth texture, we reliably match circular features between different camera views. As surface model we use an a priori known triangle mesh. By identifying the mesh vertices with texture elements we obtain a consistent parameterization of the surface over time without further processing. Missing data points resulting from self-shadowing are plausibly interpolated by minimizing a thin-plate functional. The deforming geometry can be used for different graphics applications, e.g. for realistic retexturing. We show results for real garments demonstrating the accuracy of the recovered flexible shape

    We present a parallel cloth simulation engine designed for distributed memory parallel architectures, in particular clusters built of commodity components. We focus on efficient parallel processing of irregularly structured and real-world sized problems typically occurring in the simulation of garments. We report on performance measurements showing a high degree of parallel efficiency and scalability indicating the usefulness of our approach.
