Compatibility and stability of hyoscine n-butyl bromide and furosemide admixtures for use in palliative care

    Get PDF
In order to avoid separate injections, admixtures of drugs are frequently used in palliative care settings. There are different factors that can influence the compatibility and stability of the mixture: drug type, concentration, solvent, container, temperature and light. There are some mixtures of drugs with proven stability, but there is lack of evidence about the stability and compatibility of the combination of hyoscine N-butyl bromide and furosemide.Universidad de Málaga,Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tec

The Impact of the Post-Liberalisation Growth of LCCs on the Tourism Trends in Spain

    Get PDF
This paper describes the basic characteristics of low cost companies (LCCs) and their expansion in Spain, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world according to the World Tourism Organization. Using a demand perspective, the evolution of LCCs and the main implications for the tourism marked between 2000 and 2005 are analysed. The evident tendency of Low-Cost companies towards a marked growth in the number of passengers is contrasted with the evident stagnation of traditional or full service companies. The results of the analysis also show that highly significant trends related to the development of LCCs include the growing use of the Internet as an information search engine and tool for booking and paying for tourist services, the substitution of traditional holiday packages (travel and transport) for direct booking systems and a reduction in the length of stays at a destination.

A Content Analysis of Jihadist Magazines: Theoretical Perspectives

    Get PDF
During its violent spread across the Middle East, the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) amassed both a local and international following in large part due to its usage of emergent media distribution. Beginning in 2014, ISIS’s Ministry of Media published an English-language magazine, Dabiq, disseminating its issues through online platforms. Dabiq and its successor Rumiyah both serve as propagandistic recruitment material for ISIS’s international community as well as broadcasting the message of the jihadist movement to ISIS’s enemies. This study analyzed ISIS’s publications using a qualitative content analysis in order to identify jihadist recruitment strategies through the perspectives of agenda-setting theory, the diffusion of innovations, symbolic convergence theory, and speech codes theory. These communication theories characterize the roles that civilizational conflict, population demographics, narrative themes, and emergent media play in the diffusion of the jihadist movement. This study samples the textual content and imagery of issues of Dabiq and Rumiyah, using thematic analysis to procedurally code the data by recognizing shared characteristics and concepts. The fundamental goal of this study is to gain a greater understanding of the way ISIS, its members, and the jihadist movement communicate their intentions, with the hope of preventing further recruitment and radicalization. The two following research questions drive this study: (1) What themes are present in the ISIS publications of Dabiq and Rumiyah? (2) How do the themes of these publications vary over time

Response to Phototaxic Stimulation in Relation to Sex and Reproductive State in the Urban Adapted Mosquito, Culex pipiens f. molestus

    Get PDF
The mosquito, Culex pipiens f. molestus, is a scientifically relevant species due to its impact upon both human and veterinary medicine. This city dwelling disease vector lives and reproduces in underground tunnels and sewer systems throughout the world. After reproducing, adults begin searching for food above ground, but little is known about the sensory signals that guide this seeking behavior. Because cues may have a major impact on feeding and reproduction, I compared the phototaxic response of adult male and female Cx. pipiens f. molestus at different reproductive states. Virgin females, mated females, virgin males, and mated males were monitored to determine how they would respond to a light signal at one end of a tunnel. All groups showed a significant positive phototaxic response. However, the response of virgin females was less pronounced than the responses of the other groups. The overall positive phototaxic response indicates that Culex pipiens f. molestus may be using light signals, at least in part, to initiate seeking behavior. The lesser response of virgin females is potentially due to a biological mechanism that delays host-seeking, even in the presence of initiating cues, until after reproduction has occurred

Spark Plasma Sintered Aluminum Oxide Filter for Hot Gas Applications

    Get PDF
In this study, we report the fabrication of aluminum oxide filter via spark plasma sintering for application as a hot gas filter. Spherical alpha alumina particles were sieved to achieve uniform size distribution. A bimodal size distribution was observed, after sieving, of 180±40 μm and 109±16 μm, for the large and small particle respectively. Powder was then sintered via spark plasma sintering at varying dwell temperatures, pressures, and dwell periods to find optimal parameters to produce sufficient surface diffusion at necks between particles. A temperature of 1500C, 30 minutes dwell period, and 10-20MPa applied pressure produced filters with optimal range of densification. Samples were then characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for porosity measurements and pore/neck formation between particles. A test rig to evaluate the filtering characteristics of Al023 filter is being developed. These tests will be conducted via inert gas flowed through quartz tube furnace at 600C

El objetivo del estudio fue analizar el estado actual del recurso hídrico considerando su distribución espacial y temporal de oferta y demanda, permitiendo desarrollar un adecuado uso según las dinámicas productivas de sus diferentes usuarios

Survey and Assessment of Laws on the Informal Sector

    Get PDF
This study classifies the laws affecting the informal sector and assesses the extent of the empowerment of the sector based on the provisions in the laws that allow for organization, decision making mechanisms and transfer of power from the traditional center to another. Results indicate that, to some extent, four groups within the sector are accorded empowerment through Philippine laws: the agricultural sector, small and medium enterprises, industrial home workers and cooperatives. These groups are allowed to form organizations and to participate in decision making bodies. Decision making is accorded to certain groups among informal sector, which, in some cases, comprise the majority members in decision making bodies. Nowhere among the laws is a shift of power provided from the traditional or government decision makers to the informal sector. However, certain groups within the IS have participated in the institution of some policies and the realization of programs for their own advantage.informal financial sectors, small and medium enterprises
