The Use of Massage Therapy for Reducing Pain, Anxiety, and Depression in Oncological Palliative Care Patients: A Narrative Review of the Literature
A considerable number of cancer patients use complementary medicine therapies in order to alleviate different symptoms such as pain, anxiety, and depression, occurring in connection with cancer.
This paper explores the question to what extent massage therapies are able to reduce the amount of pain, anxiety, and depression. For this purpose, a systematic literature analysis was carried out in the electronic databases and specialist journals. There is already evidence that massage therapies can influence the symptoms of pain, anxiety, and depression in a positive way
Comparisons of Concordance in Additive Models
In this note we compare bivariate additive models with respect to their Pearson correlation coecients, Kendall's concordance coecients, and Blomqvist medial correlation coefcients. The conditions that enable the comparisons involve variability stochastic orders such as the dispersive and the peakedness orders. Specically we show that we can compare the Kendall's concordance coecients of Cheriyan and Ramabhadran's bivariate gamma distributions, in spite of the fact that it is hard (and not necessary) to compute the

Broken Symmetries in the Reconstruction of v=1 Quantum Hall Edges
Spin-polarized reconstruction of the v=1 quantum Hall edge is accompanied by
a spatial modulation of the charge density along the edge. We find that this is
also the case for finite quantum Hall droplets: current spin density functional
calculations show that the so-called Chamon-Wen edge forms a ring of apparently
localized electrons around the maximum density droplet (MDD). The boundaries of
these different phases qualitatively agree with recent experiments. For very
soft confinement, Chern-Simons Ginzburg-Landau theory indicates formation of a
non-translational invariant edge with vortices (holes) trapped in the edge
region.Comment: Proceedings of the EP2DS, Ottawa (1999) (submitted to Physica E
Stochastic comparisons of series and parallel systems with randomized independent components
Consider a series or parallel system of independent components and assume that the components are randomly chosen from two different batches, with the components of the first batch being more reliable than those of the second. In this note it is shown that the reliability of the system increases, in usual stochastic order sense, as the random number of components chosen from the first batch increases in increasing convex order. As a consequence, we establish a result analogous to the Parrondo's paradox, which shows that randomness in the number of components extracted from the two batches improves the reliability of the series syste
Production of eta Mesons in Double Pomeron Exchange
We estimate the production cross sections for and mesons
via pomeron-pomeron fusion in peripheral heavy-ion collisions. Total and
elastic PP cross sections are calculated in an equivalent pomeron
approximation.Comment: 9 pages, 3 Postscript figure
