Modeling and Analysis Generic Interface for eXternal numerical codes (MAGIX)
The modeling and analysis generic interface for external numerical codes
(MAGIX) is a model optimizer developed under the framework of the coherent set
of astrophysical tools for spectroscopy (CATS) project. The MAGIX package
provides a framework of an easy interface between existing codes and an
iterating engine that attempts to minimize deviations of the model results from
available observational data, constraining the values of the model parameters
and providing corresponding error estimates. Many models (and, in principle,
not only astrophysical models) can be plugged into MAGIX to explore their
parameter space and find the set of parameter values that best fits
observational/experimental data. MAGIX complies with the data structures and
reduction tools of ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter Array), but can be used with
other astronomical and with non-astronomical data.Comment: 12 pages, 15 figures, 2 tables, paper is also available at

Bound, virtual and resonance -matrix poles from the Schr\"odinger equation
A general method, which we call the potential -matrix pole method, is
developed for obtaining the -matrix pole parameters for bound, virtual and
resonant states based on numerical solutions of the Schr\"odinger equation.
This method is well-known for bound states. In this work we generalize it for
resonant and virtual states, although the corresponding solutions increase
exponentially when . Concrete calculations are performed for the
ground and the first excited states of , the resonance
states (, ), low-lying states of and
, and the subthreshold resonances in the proton-proton system. We
also demonstrate that in the case the broad resonances their energy and width
can be found from the fitting of the experimental phase shifts using the
analytical expression for the elastic scattering -matrix. We compare the
-matrix pole and the -matrix for broad resonance in

Inelastic Processes in the Collision of Relativistic Highly Charged Ions with Atoms
A general expression for the cross sections of inelastic collisions of fast
(including relativistic) multicharged ions with atoms which is based on the
genelazition of the eikonal approximation is derived. This expression is
applicable for wide range of collision energy and has the standard
nonrelativistic limit and in the ultrarelativistic limit coincides with the
Baltz's exact solution ~\cite{art13} of the Dirac equation. As an application
of the obtained result the following processes are calculated: the excitation
and ionization cross sections of hydrogenlike atom; the single and double
excitation and ionization of heliumlike atom; the multiply ionization of neon
and argon atoms; the probability and cross section of K-vacancy production in
the relativistic collision. The simple analytic formulae
for the cross sections of inelastic collisions and the recurrence relations
between the ionization cross sections of different multiplicities are also
obtained. Comparison of our results with the experimental data and the results
of other calculations are given.Comment: 25 pages, latex, 7 figures avialable upon request, submitted to PR
Genetic diversity in soybean germplasm identified by SSR and EST-SSR markers.
Cotunneling thermopower of single electron transistors
We study the thermopower of a quantum dot weakly coupled to two reservoirs by
tunnel junctions. At low temperatures the transport through the dot is
suppressed by charging effects (Coulomb blockade). As a result the thermopower
shows an oscillatory dependence on the gate voltage. We study this dependence
in the limit of low temperatures where the transport through the dot is
dominated by the processes of inelastic cotunneling. We also obtain a crossover
formula for intermediate temperatures which connects our cotunneling results to
the known sawtooth behavior in the sequential tunneling regime. As the
temperature is lowered, the amplitude of thermopower oscillations increases,
and their shape changes qualitatively.Comment: 9 pages, including 4 figure
Neutron-induced astrophysical reaction rates for translead nuclei
Neutron-induced reaction rates, including fission, are calculated in the
temperature range 1.d8 <T (K) < 1.d10 within the framework of the statistical
model for targets with atomic number 83 < Z < 119 (from Po to Uuo) from the
neutron to the proton drip-line. Four sets of rates have been calculated,
utilizing - where possible - consistent nuclear data for neutron separation
energies and fission barriers from Thomas-Fermi (TF), Extended Thomas-Fermi
plus Strutinsky Integral (ETFSI), Finite-Range Droplet Model (FRDM) and
Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov (HFB) predictions. Tables of calculated values as well
as analytic seven parameter fits in the standard REACLIB format are supplied.
We also discuss the sensitivity of the rates to the input, aiming at a better
understanding of the uncertainties introduced by the nuclear input.Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures, 2 tables in paper, 2 in Annex and online tables

Motion and twisting of magnetic particles ingested by alveolar macrophages in the human lung: effect of smoking and disease
BACKGROUND: Magnetic microparticles being ingested by alveolar macrophages can be used as a monitor for intracellular phagosome motions and cytoskeletal mechanical properties. These studies can be performed in the human lung after voluntary inhalation. The influence of cigarette smoking and lung diseases on cytoskeleton dependent functions was studied. METHODS: Spherical 1.3 μm diameter ferrimagnetic iron oxide particles were inhaled by 17 healthy volunteers (40 – 65 years), 15 patients with sarcoidosis (SAR), 12 patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and 18 patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis (COB). The retained particles were magnetized and aligned in an external 100 mT magnetic field. All magnetized particles induce a weak magnetic field of the lung, which was detected by a sensitive SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device) sensor. Cytoskeletal reorganizations within macrophages and intracellular transport cause stochastic magnetic dipole rotations, which are reflected in a decay of the magnetic lung field, called relaxation. Directed phagosome motion was induced in a weak magnetic twisting field. The resistance of the cytoplasm to particle twisting was characterized by the viscosity and the stiffness (ratio between stress to strain) of the cytoskeleton. RESULTS: One week after particle inhalation and later macrophage motility (relaxation) and cytoskeletal stiffness was not influenced by cigarette smoking, neither in healthy subjects, nor in the patients. Patients with IPF showed in tendency a faster relaxation (p = 0.06). Particle twisting revealed a non-Newtonian viscosity with a pure viscous and a viscoelastic compartment. The viscous shear was dominant, and only 27% of the shear recoiled and reflected viscoelastic properties. In patients with IPF, the stiffness was reduced by 60% (p < 0.02). An analysis of the shear rate and stress dependence of particle twisting allows correlating the rheological compartments to cytoskeletal subunits, in which microtubules mediate the pure viscous (non-recoverable) shear and microfilaments mediate the viscoelastic (recoverable) behavior. The missing correlation between relaxation and particle twisting shows that both stochastic and directed phagosome motion reflect different cytoskeletal mechanisms. CONCLUSION: Faster relaxation and a soft cytoskeleton in patients with IPF indicate alterations in cytoskeleton dependent functions of alveolar macrophages, which may cause dysfunction's in the alveolar defense, like a slower migration, a retarded phagocytosis, a disturbed phagosome lysosome fusion and an impaired clearance
Coulomb Blockade Oscillations in the Thermopower of Open Quantum Dots
We consider Coulomb blockade oscillations of thermoelectric coefficients of a
single electron transistor based on a quantum dot strongly coupled to one of
the leads. Analytic expression for the thermopower as a function of temperature
and the reflection amplitude in the quantum point contact is obtained.
Two regimes can be identified: and , where
is the charging energy of the dot. The former regime is characterized by
weak logarithmic dependence of the thermopower on the reflection coefficient,
in the latter the thermopower is linear in the reflection coefficient
but depends on temperature only logarithmically.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur
Closed shells at drip-line nuclei
The shell structure of magic nuclei far from stability is discussed in terms
of the self-consistent spherical Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory. In particular,
the sensitivity of the shell-gap sizes and the two-neutron separation energies
to the choice of particle-hole and particle-particle components of the
effective interaction is investigated.Comment: 19 pages, LaTeX, 8 uuencoded figures available upon reques
Sub-threshold resonances in few-neutron systems
Three- and four-neutron systems are studied within the framework of the
hyperspherical approach with a local S-wave nn-potential. Possible bound and
resonant states of these systems are sought as zeros of three- and four-body
Jost functions in the complex momentum plane. It is found that zeros closest to
the origin correspond to sub-threshold (nnn) (1/2-) and (nnnn) (0+) resonant
states. The positions of these zeros turned out to be sensitive to the choice
of the --potential. For the Malfliet- Tjon potential they are
E(nnn)=-4.9-i6.9 (MeV) and E(nnnn)=-2.6-i9.0 (MeV). Movement of the zeros with
an artificial increase of the potential strength also shows an extreme
sensitivity to the choice of potential. Thus, to generate ^3n and ^4n bound
states, the Yukawa potential needs to be multiplied by 2.67 and 2.32
respectively, while for the Malfliet-Tjon potential the required multiplicative
factors are 4.04 and 3.59.Comment: Latex, 22 pages, no PS-figures, submitted to J.Phys.
