Evaluation of Addition of Reactive Resin for an Adhesive Formulation of Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive

Nowadays, adhesive industry is growing, and its development will be important in a short future because it offers good returns, and in some cases it is a better option for packaging and sealing with advantages in prices, productivity and weight reduction. In terms of joining and/or sealing, adhesives are well positioned among joining systems; however, knowledge about adhesives is need for their efficient use and only through proper design of the union can be achieved satisfactory results. In this chapter, a development of a formulation of pressure-sensitive adhesive based on styrene-butadiene copolymers using a reactive resin is reported. Non-aromatic solvents were used in adhesive formulation with the aim of avoiding the emission of harmful solvents into the Atmosphere, and the adequate combination and amount of solvents were found. The effect of addition of a phenolic resin in the adhesive formulation as a crosslinking agent was evaluated. By means Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), the crosslinking reaction was also studied. The performance of adhesive formulation was evaluated by means of dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA)

Evaluation of Styrene Content over Physical and Chemical Properties of Elastomer/TPS-EVOH/Chicken Feather Composites

A series of styrene-butadiene (SB) elastomer/thermoplastic starch (TPS)/ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) composites were modified including chicken feathers in its formulation, which have the main component keratin. The composites were prepared by means of melt blending, and their chemical interactions were evaluated by means of infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and their thermal properties as Tg values were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermal stability using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and viscoelastic properties with dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The styrene content in SB was changed in 3 levels, and chicken feather content also changed in 3 levels. It was identified that Tg value in composites decreases that is attributed to the styrene content in elastomer and that the chicken feather improved the storage modulus of composite. The thermal stability of composites also was affected by the presence of chicken feathers due its good thermal properties

OMAX and Lean Manufacturing as Tools of Measurement and Improvement of Productivity in a SME in the Manufacturing Sector

En la actualidad, las organizaciones buscan el logro de sus objetivos y el incremento de la productividad, sin importar el sector en el que se encuentren, el uso de herramientas de manufactura esbelta permite que los procesos se vuelvan eficientes. El objetivo principal de este trabajo es presentar los resultados de mejora y el incremento de la productividad a partir del uso de la matriz de objetivos OMAX y herramientas de manufactura esbelta en una Pyme del ramo manufacturero ubicada en el norte del estado de Veracruz, México. Este trabajo se realizó en dos etapas y en cada una de ellas se utilizó una herramienta con base a las necesidades específicas de mejora. Algunas de las herramientas fueron el mapeo de la cadena de valor (VSM), círculos de calidad y mejora continua Kaizen, a fin de mejorar los procedimientos operativos, resultado que fue medido a partir de la matriz OMAX.Currently, organizations seek to achieve their objectives and increase productivity, regardless of the sector they are in. The use of lean manufacturing tools allows processes to become efficient. The aim of this work is to present the improved results and increased productivity achieved through the use of the OMAX objective matrix and lean manufacturing tools in a manufacturing SME located in the northern region of Veracruz, Mexico. This work was carried out in three stages, and each stage involved the use of a specific tool to address improvement needs. Factores que influyen en la utilización de métodos anticonceptivos en los jóvenes

Objetivo: identificar los factores que influyen en la utilización de métodos anticonceptivos en jóvenes universitarios de San Luis Potosí, Unidad Académica Multidisciplinaria Zona Media.Material y método: se evaluó una muestra constituida por 113 estudiantes universitarios con edades comprendidas entre 18 y 25 años. Este estudio fue realizado del 1 de octubre al 15 de noviembre del 2009. Se utilizó un cuestionario para conocer el nivel de conocimientos y la utilización de los anticonceptivos.Resultados: indicaron que los jóvenes inician vida sexual a temprana edad, tienen escaso conocimiento o reciben información errónea sobre el uso de métodos anticonceptivos y enfermedades de transmisión sexual (ETS).Conclusiones: La mayoría de los jóvenes encuestados conocen algunos métodos, pero no los utilizan por varios factores, entre ellos: subestimación del riesgo, problemas de desconfianza, disminuye el placer sexual, falta de control en la decisión, actitud rechazada d

Development of a Composite from TPS–EVOH–SBR Reinforced with Coconut Fiber

The aim of this research is to obtain a composite made of coconut fiber, thermoplastic starch (TPS), ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH), and styrene–butadiene copolymer (SBR), achieving the most significant criteria/attribute determined by users. The tools used were quality function deployment (QFD) and the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ). The end result indicated that the quality requirement and most representative attribute for users is the toxicity of the material. Four mixtures were made with different percentages of coconut fiber, TPS–EVOH, and SBR, subjecting them to Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The material obtained complies with the requirements of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the nontoxicity of synthetic materials (EVOH and SB) to be used in contact with food (packaging and packaging). The spectra IR of the presence of monomers such as methacrylic acid, 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate, itaconic acid, among others, was not detected due to the humidity of the material. On the other hand, the DMA graphs showed that the mixtures achieved high storage modules (from 1500 to 3000 MPa) at temperatures from −90 to −70 °C, and the TGA thermogram showed that the last material to degrade was SBR at temperatures from 400 to 500 °C

Functional Evaluation Using Fuzzy FMEA for a Non-Invasive Measurer for Methane and Carbone Dioxide

This paper combines the use of two tools: Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Fuzzy Logic (FL), to evaluate the functionality of a quantifier prototype of Methane gas (CH4) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2), developed specifically to measure the emissions generated by cattle. Unlike previously reported models for the same purpose, this device reduces damage to the integrity of the animal and does not interfere with the activities of livestock in their development medium. FMEA and FL are used to validate the device’s functionality, which involves identifying possible failure modes that represent a more significant impact on the operation and prevent the prototype from fulfilling the function for which it was created. As a result, this document presents the development of an intelligent fuzzy system type Mamdani, supported in the Fuzzy Inference System Toolbox of MatLabR2018b®, for generating a risk priority index. A Fuzzy FMEA model was obtained to validate the prototype for measuring Methane and Carbon Dioxide emissions, which allows considering this prototype as a reliable alternative for the reliable measurement of these gases. This study was necessary as a complementary part in the validation of the design of the prototype quantifier of CH4 and CO2 emissions. The methods used (classic FMEA and Fuzzy FMEA) to evaluate the RPN show asymmetric graphs due to data disparity. Values in the classical method are mostly lower than the Mamdani model results due to the description of the criteria with which it is evaluated

La evaluación colegiada de las competencias básicas en la Comunidad Autónoma de Canarias : hacia un modelo de escuela inclusiva y sostenible

Precede al título: Educación Primaria y Educación Secundaria ObligatoriaLa Ley Orgánica de Educación (LOE) introduce el concepto de «competencias básicas» como eje articulador del currículo, conectando de pleno con las reflexiones y las estrategias que se están desarrollando en otros sistemas educativos internacionales a la luz del informe Delors (1996), el documento DeSeCo (Definición y Selección de Competencias fundamentales) elaborado por la OCDE, de las evaluaciones PISA (Programa para la Evaluación Internacional del Alumnado), etc. Esta propuesta centra el foco en la dimensión formativa de la «evaluación», aspecto inacabado con la LOGSE (Ley Orgánica General del Sistema Educativo), a pesar de los esfuerzos realizados en esa dirección.
