Temporal Analysis of Activity Patterns of Editors in Collaborative Mapping Project of OpenStreetMap
In the recent years Wikis have become an attractive platform for social
studies of the human behaviour. Containing millions records of edits across the
globe, collaborative systems such as Wikipedia have allowed researchers to gain
a better understanding of editors participation and their activity patterns.
However, contributions made to Geo-wikis_wiki-based collaborative mapping
projects_ differ from systems such as Wikipedia in a fundamental way due to
spatial dimension of the content that limits the contributors to a set of those
who posses local knowledge about a specific area and therefore cross-platform
studies and comparisons are required to build a comprehensive image of online
open collaboration phenomena. In this work, we study the temporal behavioural
pattern of OpenStreetMap editors, a successful example of geo-wiki, for two
European capital cities. We categorise different type of temporal patterns and
report on the historical trend within a period of 7 years of the project age.
We also draw a comparison with the previously observed editing activity

Alkyl‐Bridged Nitropyrazoles – Adjustment of Performance and Sensitivity Parameters
Starting from 3,5-dinitro-4-methylaminopyrazole (2), six different energetic salts and three new derivatives of methylene bridged nitropyrazoles were synthesized. The derivatives bear a methylamino (4), methylnitramino (5), and azido group (7). All compounds were intensively characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction, multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis and DTA/TGA measurements. The sensitivities were determined according to BAM standard methods and the energetic properties calculated using the EXPLO5 code. The energetic salts were compared with each other and with ANTA in terms of their energetic properties. On the basis of the methyl- and ethyl bridged derivatives, it was shown how the introduction of methylamino (4) and methylnitramino (5) groups in an alkyl-bridged nitropyrazole system modify its properties (performance & sensitivities). In addition, azido compound 7 was contrasted with its literature-known constitutional isomer and investigated for its suitability as a potential metal-free primary explosive
Investigating the porphyrias through analysis of biochemical pathways.
ABSTRACT
The porphyrias are a diverse group of metabolic disorders arising from diminished
activity of enzymes in the heme biosynthetic pathway. They can present with acute
neurovisceral symptoms, cutaneous symptoms, or both. The complexity of these
disorders is demonstrated by the fact that some acute porphyria patients with the
underlying genetic defect(s) are latent and asymptomatic while others present with
severe symptoms. This indicates that there is at least one other risk factor required in
addition to the genetic defect for symptom manifestation. A systematic review of the
heme biosynthetic pathway highlighted the involvement of a number of micronutrient
cofactors. An exhaustive review of the medical literature uncovered numerous reports
of micronutrient deficiencies in the porphyrias as well as successful case reports of
treatments with micronutrients. Many micronutrient deficiencies present with
symptoms similar to those in porphyria, in particular vitamin B6. It is hypothesized
that a vitamin B6 deficiency and related micronutrient deficiencies may play a major
role in the pathogenesis of the acute porphyrias. In order to further investigate the
porphyrias, a computational model of the heme biosynthetic pathway was developed
based on kinetic parameters derived from a careful analysis of the literature. This
model demonstrated aspects of normal heme biosynthesis and illustrated some of the
disordered biochemistry of acute intermittent porphyria (AIP). The testing of this
model highlighted the modifications necessary to develop a more comprehensive
model with the potential to investigated hypotheses of the disordered biochemistry of
the porphyrias as well as the discovery of new methods of treatment and symptom
control. It is concluded that vitamin B6 deficiency might be the risk factor necessary
in conjunction with the genetic defect to trigger porphyria symptoms

Проведен анализ состояния проблемы формирования предпринимательских умений в России. Определены педагогические условия, способствующие формированию готовности студентов технического университета к комплексной инженерной деятельности. Сформулировано понятие предпринимательской компетенции инженера. Обосновано эффективное применение метода проектов для формирования предпринимательских умений студентов инженерного вуза. Представлена модель формирования предпринимательских умений студентов инженерного вуза с учетом проектной деятельности инженера.The developing methods of entrepreneurial competences of engineering students, based on the practice-oriented training to encourage an implemental activity of an engineer in the modern context has been presented in the report. The analysis of the problem of entrepreneurial competencies development in Russia has been carried out. The pedagogical conditions encouraging the commitment of the technical university students for an integrated engineering activity has been defined. The concept of entrepreneurial competencies of an engineer has been stated. An effective appliance of project methods to develop entrepreneurial competences of the engineering university students has been proved. Evidence for the localization of the Arabidopsis cytokinin receptors AHK3 and AHK4 in the endoplasmic reticulum
Cytokinins are hormones that are involved in various processes of plant growth and development. The model of cytokinin signalling starts with hormone perception through membrane-localized histidine kinase receptors. Although the biochemical properties and functions of these receptors have been extensively studied, there is no solid proof of their subcellular localization. Here, cell biological and biochemical evidence for the localization of functional fluorophor-tagged fusions of Arabidopsis histidine kinase 3 (AHK3) and 4 (AHK4), members of the cytokinin receptor family, in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is provided. Furthermore, membrane-bound AHK3 interacts with AHK4 in vivo. The ER localization and putative function of cytokinin receptors from the ER have major impacts on the concept of cytokinin perception and signalling, and hormonal cross-talk in plants
An international comparative study of blood pressure in populations of European vs. African descent
Background: The consistent finding of higher prevalence of hypertension in US blacks compared
to whites has led to speculation that African-origin populations are particularly susceptible to this
condition. Large surveys now provide new information on this issue.
Methods: Using a standardized analysis strategy we examined prevalence estimates for 8 white
and 3 black populations (N = 85,000 participants).
Results: The range in hypertension prevalence was from 27 to 55% for whites and 14 to 44% for
blacks.
Conclusions: These data demonstrate that not only is there a wide variation in hypertension
prevalence among both racial groups, the rates among blacks are not unusually high when viewed
internationally. These data suggest that the impact of environmental factors among both
populations may have been under-appreciated
Adipose Tissue Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acid Content and Breast Cancer in the EURAMIC Study
The fatty acid content of adipose tissue in postmenopausal breast cancer cases and controls from five European countries in the European Community Multicenter Study on Antioxidants, Myocardial Infarction, and Cancer (EURAMIC) breast cancer study (1991 -1992) was used to explore the hypothesis that fatty acids of the omega-3 family inhibit breast cancer and that the degree of inhibition depends on background levels of omega-6 polyunsaturates. Considered in isolation, the level of omega-3 or omega-6 fat in adipose tissue displayed little consistent association with breast cancer across study centers. The ratio of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids to total omega-6 fat showed an inverse association with breast cancer in four of five centers. In Malaga, Spain, the odds ratio for the highest tertile relative to the lowest reached 0.32 (95% confidence interval 0.13-0.82). In this center, total omega-6 fatty acid was strongly associated with breast cancer. With all centers pooled, the odds ratio for long-chain omega-3 to total omega-6 reached 0.80 for the second tertile and 0.65 for the third tertile, a downward trend bordering on statistical significance (p for trend = 0.055). While not definitive, these results provide evidence for the hypothesis that the balance between omega-3 and omega-6 fat may play a rolein breast cancer. Am J Epidemiol 1998; 147: 342-5
Silver-Bismuth Based 2D Double Perovskites (4FPEA)(4)AgBiX8 (X = Cl, Br, I): Highly Oriented Thin Films with Large Domain Sizes and Ultrafast Charge-Carrier Localization
Two-dimensional (2D) hybrid double perovskites are a promising emerging class of materials featuring superior intrinsic and extrinsic stability over their 3D parent structures, while enabling additional structural diversity and tunability. Here, we expand the Ag-Bi-based double perovskite system, comparing structures obtained with the halides chloride, bromide, and iodide and the organic spacer cation 4-fluorophenethylammonium (4FPEA) to form the n = 1 Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) phases (4FPEA)(4)AgBiX8 (X = Cl, Br, I). We demonstrate access to the iodide RP-phase through a simple organic spacer, analyze the different properties as a result of halide substitution and incorporate the materials into photodetectors. Highly oriented thin films with very large domain sizes are fabricated and investigated with grazing incidence wide angle X-ray scattering, revealing a strong dependence of morphology on substrate choice and synthesis parameters. First-principles calculations confirm a direct band gap and show type Ib and IIb band alignment between organic and inorganic quantum wells. Optical characterization, temperature-dependent photoluminescence, and optical-pump terahertz-probe spectroscopy give insights into the absorption and emissive behavior of the materials as well as their charge-carrier dynamics. Overall, we further elucidate the possible reasons for the electronic and emissive properties of these intriguing materials, dominated by phonon-coupled and defect-mediated polaronic states
Lycopene and Myocardial Infarction Risk in the EURAMIC Study
A multicenter case-control study was conducted to evaluate the relations between antioxidant status assessed by biomarkers and acute myocardial infarction. Incidence cases and frequency matched controls were recruited from 10 European countries to maximize the variance in exposure within the study. Adipose tissue needle aspiration biopsies were taken shortly after the infarction and analyzed for levels of carotenoids and tocopherols. An examination of colinearity including all covariates and the three carotenoids, α-carotene, β-carotene, and lycopene, showed that the variables were sufficiently independent to model simultaneously. When examined singularly, each of the carotenoids appeared to be protective. Upon simultaneous analyses of the carotenoids, however, using conditional logistic regression models that controlled for age, body mass index, socioeconomic status, smoking, hypertension, and maternal and paternal history of disease, lycopene remained independently protective, with an odds ratio of 0.52 for the contrast of the 10th and 90th percentiles (95% confidence interval 0.33-0.82, p= 0.005). The associations for α- and β-carotene were largely eliminated.
