Sarcasm detection on Twitter
State-of-the-art approaches for sarcasm detection in social media combine lexical clues with contextual information surrounding the potentially sarcastic posting including author information. This article presents detailed methods for performing contextualizing sarcasm detection on Twitter, including data extraction, feature engineering and classification model settings. I reproduce the state-of-the-art results reported by Bamman and Smith (2015).Informatio
Dust in Active Galactic Nuclei: Anomalous Silicate to Optical Extinction Ratios?
Dust plays a central role in the unification theory of active galactic nuclei
(AGNs). However, little is known about the nature (e.g., size, composition) of
the dust which forms a torus around the AGN. In this Letter we report a
systematic exploration of the optical extinction (A_V) and the silicate
absorption optical depth (\Delta\tau9.7) of 110 type 2 AGNs. We derive A_V from
the Balmer decrement based on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey data, and
\Delta\tau9.7 from the Spitzer/Infrared Spectrograph data. We find that with a
mean ratio of A_V/\Delta\tau9.7 ~ 5.5, the optical-to-silicate extinction
ratios of these AGNs are substantially lower than that of the Galactic diffuse
interstellar medium (ISM) for which A_V/\Delta\tau9.7 ~ 18.5. We argue that the
anomalously low A_V/\Delta\tau9.7 ratio could be due to the predominance of
larger grains in the AGN torus compared to that in the Galactic diffuse ISM.Comment: ApJL, 792, L9, in prin
Analysis Of The Effect Of Work Stress And Organizational Culture On Teacher Performance
Teacher performance is certainly influenced by several factors, both internal and external factors, such as work stress, organizational culture, leadership style, wages, and others. This study aims to analyze the influence of work stress as a moderation between organizational culture and teacher performance in schools. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative, and explanatory research. This research was conducted at the Global Prima School, in March 2022. The total population in this study was 70 people, with a sampling technique using a total sample. Data collection techniques use questionnaires and in-person interviews. The research instrument carried out validity and reliability tests. The data analysis was used using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis, namely multiple regression tests, determinant coefficients, F tests, and T-tests. The results of the study that the variable of work stress with a t-count of > t-table (5045 > 1.66) was significant at 0.006 t-table (5.221 > 1.66), significant by 0.002 < 0.05, partially positively and significantly affecting the performance of teachers at The Global Prima School. In conclusion, the variables of work stress and organizational culture simultaneously have a positive and significant effect on teacher performance at The Global Prima School with the value of the Coefficient of Determination (R2) being 74.6%, the remaining 25.4% is explained by independent variables that are not studied such as supervision and leadershi
Automatic Vehicle Detection and Identification using Visual Features
In recent decades, a vehicle has become the most popular transportation mechanism in the world. High accuracy and success rate are key factors in automatic vehicle detection and identification. As the most important label on vehicles, the license plate serves as a mean of public identification for them. However, it can be stolen and affixed to different vehicles by criminals to conceal their identities. Furthermore, in some cases, the plate numbers can be the same for two vehicles coming from different countries. In this thesis, we propose a new vehicle identification system that provides high degree of accuracy and success rates. The proposed system consists of four stages: license plate detection, license plate recognition, license plate province detection and vehicle shape detection. In the proposed system, the features are converted into local binary pattern (LBP) and histogram of oriented gradients (HOG) as training dataset. To reach high accuracy in real-time application, a novel method is used to update the system. Meanwhile, via the proposed system, we can store the vehicles features and information in the database. Additionally, with the database, the procedure can automatically detect any discrepancy between license plate and vehicles
Autogenous shrinkage of zeolite cement pastes with low water-binder ratio
Self-desiccation is one common phenomenon of high-performance cementitious materials characterized by low water to cementitious material ratio (w/c). Autogenous shrinkage is closely related to the internal relative humidity (RH) drop and capillary pressure induced by self-desiccation in the cement pastes. However, there is debate about the determination of time-zero, the time at which autogenous shrinkage begins to develop.
The objective of this study is to provide an accurate determination of time-zero based on the relationship between the internal RH and autogenous shrinkage of low w/c ratio cement pastes. And according to the time-zero, cement pastes blended with zeolite were prepared to investigate the potential of zeolite as internal curing agent.
The autogenous shrinkage was conducted according to the standard method ASTM C1698. Internal RH was performed on the sealed cement pastes at very early age by conventional method of hygrometer. Setting time was determined by the Vicat needle apparatus according to the standard method ASTM C191.
Experimental results revealed that no internal RH drop was observed around the final setting time determined by the Vicat method. Besides, a knee point was observed in the shrinkage curve at the time when the internal RH began to decrease. This is the so-called time-zero. And zeolite was found to be a potential internal curing agent according to the autogenous shrinkage tests measured from the new time-zero
Criticality in Gauged Supergravities
AdS black holes show richer transition behaviors in extended phase space by
assuming the cosmological constant and its conjugate quantity to behave like
thermodynamic pressure and thermodynamic volume. We study the extended
thermodynamics of charged dilatonic AdS black holes in a class of
Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theories that can be embedded in gauged supergravities
in various dimensions. We find that the transition behaviors of higher
dimensional dilatonic AdS black holes are different from the four dimensional
counterparts, and new transition behaviors emerges in higher dimensions. First,
there exists standard Van der Waals transition only in a five dimensional
dilatonic AdS black hole with two equal charges. Second, there emerge a new
phase transition branch in negative pressure region in six and seven
dimensional dilatonic black holes with two equal charges. Third, there emerge
transition behaviors in higher dimensional black hole with single charge cases,
which are absent in four dimensions.Comment: Latex, 18 pages, 8 figures; published versio
Better Lattice Quantizers Constructed from Complex Integers
Real-valued lattices and complex-valued lattices are mutually convertible,
thus we can take advantages of algebraic integers to defined good lattice
quantizers in the real-valued domain. In this paper, we adopt complex integers
to define generalized checkerboard lattices, especially and
defined by Eisenstein integers. Using ,
we report the best lattice quantizers in dimensions , , , and .
Their product lattices with integers also yield better quantizers
in dimensions , , , and . The Conway-Sloane type fast decoding
algorithms for and are given.Comment: 7 page
