Spin 1 fields in Riemann-Cartan space-times "via" Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory
We consider massive spin 1 fields, in Riemann-Cartan space-times, described
by Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory. We show that this approach induces a coupling
between the spin 1 field and the space-time torsion which breaks the usual
equivalence with the Proca theory, but that such equivalence is preserved in

A Review of Recycling Processes for Photovoltaic Modules
The installations of photovoltaic (PV) solar modules are growing extremely fast. As a result of the increase, the volume of modules that reach the end of their life will grow at the same rate in the near future. It is expected that by 2050 that figure will increase to 5.5–6 million tons. Consequently, methods for recycling solar modules are being developed worldwide to reduce the environmental impact of PV waste and to recover some of the value from old modules. Current recycling methods can recover just a portion of the materials, so there is plenty of room for progress in this area. Currently, Europe is the only jurisdiction that has a strong and clear regulatory framework to support the PV recycling process. This review presents a summary of possible PV recycling processes for solar modules, including c-Si and thin-film technologies as well as an overview of the global legislation. So far, recycling processes of c-Si modules are unprofitable but are likely to be mandated in more jurisdictions. There is potential to develop new pathways for PV waste management industry development and offer employment and prospects for both public and private sector investors
Integrated pest management strategies used in stored grain.
Managing pests of stored grain has become an increasingly serious problem in Brazil. This is because grain production has more than doubled in the last 10 years and insect pests have become resistant to protectant insecticides. In the same period, use of phosphine fumigation has increased rapidly and is now widely practised. However, control failures with phosphine have become common as fumigations are undertaken in unsealed silos and in situations where sanitation is poor. As a consequence, many parcels of grain are repeatedly fumigated. In response to this situation, Embrapa initiated a programme to introduce IPM into the central grain storage facilities. Our strategy included the following elements: (a) changing behaviour through training of the storage facilities personnel; (b) improving knowledge of stored grain unit; (c) cleanliness of the equipment and premises and, after that, spray residual insecticide; (d) identification of grain-stored pests; (e) resistance tests; (f) insecticide treatment and fumigation; (g) sampling and monitoring the grain. The IPM programme was introduced into two storage facilities in Paraná State. Following successful implementation of IPM, these facilities were able to supply insect-free grain and had a bonus from the market. The success of these companies led to the adoption of IPM by other storage companies. IPM systems are now running in 13 separate facilities owned by nine companies. To support the programme, Embrapa Wheat has trained more than 1,000 stored grain operators and released an IPM manual and website www.cnpt.embrapa.br/pesquisa/entomologia/mip. The challenges to be pursue for the next fifteen years of the research team are sealing silos, measure phosphine concentrations, pure PH3 applications, new protectants as spinosad (the bacterial derivate pesticide), offering technologies to guarantee high quality grains with insect free and residues free in the international market
Open Source evaluation of kilometric indexes of abundance.
Kilometric Abundance Index (KAI) is a common measure used in wildlife studies because it allows a
straightforward comparison of species abundance in different sites or at different times. KAI expresses the
ratio of the total number of individuals (or of signs of presence) observed along a transect by the total transect
length covered at each site. v.transect.kia is a new tool for GRASS GIS, developed for automating the evaluation
of KAI, reducing the risk of manual errors especially when handling large datasets. It can also split the
transects according to one environmental variable (typically habitat type) and evaluate true 3D transect
length. It calculates KAI using a point map of sightings and saves the results in the attribute table, the output
can be displayed in any GIS or used for further statistical analysis. The tool has been tested on field data from
Northern Italy for mountain hare (Lepus timidus), allowing a first wide-area estimate
Temporal Auditory Processing And Phonological Awareness In Children With Benign Epilepsy With Centrotemporal Spikes.
The aim of this research was to analyze temporal auditory processing and phonological awareness in school-age children with benign childhood epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes (BECTS). Patient group (GI) consisted of 13 children diagnosed with BECTS. Control group (GII) consisted of 17 healthy children. After neurological and peripheral audiological assessment, children underwent a behavioral auditory evaluation and phonological awareness assessment. The procedures applied were: Gaps-in-Noise test (GIN), Duration Pattern test, and Phonological Awareness test (PCF). Results were compared between the groups and a correlation analysis was performed between temporal tasks and phonological awareness performance. GII performed significantly better than the children with BECTS (GI) in both GIN and Duration Pattern test (P < 0.001). GI performed significantly worse in all of the 4 categories of phonological awareness assessed: syllabic (P = 0.001), phonemic (P = 0.006), rhyme (P = 0.015) and alliteration (P = 0.010). Statistical analysis showed a significant positive correlation between the phonological awareness assessment and Duration Pattern test (P < 0.001). From the analysis of the results, it was concluded that children with BECTS may have difficulties in temporal resolution, temporal ordering, and phonological awareness skills. A variational approach to strongly damped wave equations
We discuss a Hilbert space method that allows to prove analytical
well-posedness of a class of linear strongly damped wave equations. The main
technical tool is a perturbation lemma for sesquilinear forms, which seems to
be new. In most common linear cases we can furthermore apply a recent result
due to Crouzeix--Haase, thus extending several known results and obtaining

On the Salecker-Wigner-Peres clock and double barrier tunneling
In this work we revisit the Salecker-Wigner-Peres clock formalism and show
that it can be directly applied to the phenomenon of tunneling. Then we apply
this formalism to the determination of the tunneling time of a non relativistic
wavepacket, sharply concentrated around a tunneling energy, incident on a
symmetric double barrier potential. In order to deepen the discussion about the
generalized Hartmann effect, we consider the case in which the clock runs only
when the particle can be found inside the region \emph{between} the barriers
and show that, whenever the probability to find the particle in this region is
non negligible, the corresponding time (which in this case turns out to be a

Hamilton Operator and the Semiclassical Limit for Scalar Particles in an Electromagnetic Field
We successively apply the generalized Case-Foldy-Feshbach-Villars (CFFV) and
the Foldy-Wouthuysen (FW) transformation to derive the Hamiltonian for
relativistic scalar particles in an electromagnetic field. In contrast to the
original transformation, the generalized CFFV transformation contains an
arbitrary parameter and can be performed for massless particles, which allows
solving the problem of massless particles in an electromagnetic field. We show
that the form of the Hamiltonian in the FW representation is independent of the
arbitrarily chosen parameter. Compared with the classical Hamiltonian for point
particles, this Hamiltonian contains quantum terms characterizing the
quadrupole coupling of moving particles to the electric field and the electric
and mixed polarizabilities. We obtain the quantum mechanical and semiclassical
equations of motion of massive and massless particles in an electromagnetic

Twisted and Nontwisted Bifurcations Induced by Diffusion
We discuss a diffusively perturbed predator-prey system. Freedman and
Wolkowicz showed that the corresponding ODE can have a periodic solution that
bifurcates from a homoclinic loop. When the diffusion coefficients are large,
this solution represents a stable, spatially homogeneous time-periodic solution
of the PDE. We show that when the diffusion coefficients become small, the
spatially homogeneous periodic solution becomes unstable and bifurcates into
spatially nonhomogeneous periodic solutions.
The nature of the bifurcation is determined by the twistedness of an
equilibrium/homoclinic bifurcation that occurs as the diffusion coefficients
decrease. In the nontwisted case two spatially nonhomogeneous simple periodic
solutions of equal period are generated, while in the twisted case a unique
spatially nonhomogeneous double periodic solution is generated through
period-doubling.
