Detecting drift of quantum sources: not the de Finetti theorem
We propose and analyze a method to detect and characterize the drift of a
nonstationary quantum source. It generalizes a standard measurement for
detecting phase diffusion of laser fields to quantum systems of arbitrary
Hilbert space dimension, qubits in particular. We distinguish diffusive and
systematic drifts, and examine how quickly one can determine that a source is
drifting. We show that for single-photon wavepackets our measurement is
implemented by the Hong-Ou-Mandel effect.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure
Exosome-mediated Transfer of αvβ3 Integrin from Tumorigenic to Nontumorigenic Cells Promotes a Migratory Phenotype.
The αvβ3 integrin is known to be highly upregulated during cancer progression and promotes a migratory and metastatic phenotype in many types of tumors. We hypothesized that the αvβ3 integrin is transferred through exosomes and, upon transfer, has the ability to support functional aberrations in recipient cells. Here, for the first time, it is demonstrated that αvβ3 is present in exosomes released from metastatic PC3 and CWR22Pc prostate cancer cells. Exosomal β3 is transferred as a protein from donor to nontumorigenic and tumorigenic cells as β3 protein or mRNA levels remain unaffected upon transcription or translation inhibition in recipient cells. Furthermore, it is shown that upon exosome uptake, de novo expression of an αvβ3 increases adhesion and migration of recipient cells on an αvβ3 ligand, vitronectin. To evaluate the relevance of these findings, exosomes were purified from the blood of TRAMP mice carrying tumors where the expression of αvβ3 is found higher than in exosomes from wild-type mice. In addition, it is demonstrated that αvβ3 is coexpressed with synaptophysin, a biomarker for aggressive neuroendocrine prostate cancer.
IMPLICATIONS: Overall this study reveals that the αvβ3 integrin is transferred from tumorigenic to nontumorigenic cells via exosomes, and its de novo expression in recipient cells promotes cell migration on its ligand. Low 25-OH vitamin D levels at time of diagnosis and recurrence of ovarian cancer.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the correlation between 25-OH vitamin D and ovarian cancer as a diagnostic marker or recurrence disease marker. We studied the following: (1) 61 women without gynecologic diseases, (2) 45 women affected by benign ovarian disease, (3) 46 women with recent diagnosis of ovarian cancer, (4) 26 follow-up women with recurrent ovarian cancer, and (5) 32 follow-up women with stable ovarian cancer. The 25-OH vitamin D was quantified with LUMIPULSE® G 25-OH vitamin D on LUMIPULSE® G 1200 (Fujirebio, Japan). As a threshold value, identified by ROC curve analysis, 20.2 ng/mL (sensitivity 73.3 %, specificity 84 %) was chosen corresponding to the limit between sufficient and insufficient 25-OH vitamin D according to the WHO. Low 25-OH vitamin D levels were observed in 26 % of women without gynecologic diseases, in 80 % of women with recent diagnosis of ovarian cancer and in 24 % women affected by benign ovarian diseases (p < 0.001). The follow-up study showed an insufficient level of 25-OH vitamin D in 73 % women with recurrent ovarian cancer and in 47 % women with stable ovarian cancer (p < 0.0003). This study showed that patients with ovarian cancer are often insufficient in 25-OH vitamin D compared to women with benign ovarian diseases. The women with recurrent ovarian cancer presented more often low levels compared to women with stable ovarian cancer. This study suggests that 25-OH vitamin D, due to its antiproliferative properties, can be a good marker for ovarian cancer also
Single-Scattering Optical Tomography: Simultaneous Reconstruction of Scattering and Absorption
We demonstrate that simultaneous reconstruction of scattering and absorption
of a mesoscopic system using angularly-resolved measurements of scattered light
intensity is possible. Image reconstruction is realized based on the algebraic
inversion of a generalized Radon transform relating the scattering and
absorption coefficients of the medium to the measured light intensity and
derived using the single-scattering approximation to the radiative transport

Density-based mixing parameter for hybrid functionals
A very popular ab-initio scheme to calculate electronic properties in solids
is the use of hybrid functionals in density functional theory (DFT) that mixes
a portion of Fock exchange with DFT functionals. In spite of their success, a
major problem still remains, related to the use of one single mixing parameter
for all materials. Guided by physical arguments that connect the mixing
parameter to the dielectric properties of the solid, and ultimately to its band
gap, we propose a method to calculate this parameter from the electronic
density alone. This method is able to cut significantly the error of
traditional hybrid functionals for large and small gap materials, while
retaining a good description of structural properties. Moreover, its
implementation is simple and leads to a negligible increase of the

Cooperative Readiness for E-learning
Cooperative is basically an economic organization of the people who have the economic capacity, which is in motion is not only concerned with economic motives. In addition to form a company that requires a profit, the cooperative also has a social motive. This is reflected in the principles espoused. Cooperative is an organization that is familial and managed democratically. In this study the chosen type of credit union, a group of people who agree to raise capital by providing loans to members of its own with a decent interest rate and approved. As one of the requirements in order to be able to make loans to members of cooperatives are the members must have attended training organized by the cooperative board. The spread of the location and the bustle complicate members required to attend training. Development of technology and beneficiaries among members provide alternative learning solutions for members. For that we need to know whether members are ready to accept the training system based on information technology. The readiness of members in this case at CU Melati Kopdit Jagakarta landfill checked by sampling techniques. From preliminary research/beginning it seems that members of the CU Melati landfill Jagakarsa ready to accept the program of distance education (elearning) for cooperative education
Association between depressive symptom clusters and food attentional bias
Background
The mechanisms underlying the depression-obesity relationship are unclear. Food attentional bias (FAB) represents one candidate mechanism that has not been examined. We evaluated the hypothesis that greater depressive symptoms are associated with increased FAB.
Method
Participants were 89 normal weight or overweight adults (mean age = 21.2 ± 4.0 years, 53% female, 33% non-white, mean body mass index in kg/m2 = 21.9 ± 1.8 for normal weight; 27.2 ± 1.5 for overweight). Total, somatic, and cognitive-affective depressive symptom scores were computed from the Patient Health Questionnaire-8 (PHQ-8). FAB scores were calculated using reaction times (RT) and eye-tracking (ET) direction and duration measures for a food visual probe task. Age, gender, race/ethnicity, and body fat percent were covariates.
Results
Only PHQ-8 somatic symptoms were positively associated with RT-measured FAB (β = 0.23, p = .04). The relationship between somatic symptoms and ET direction (β = 0.18, p = .17) and duration (β = 0.23, p = .08) FAB indices were of similar magnitude but were not significant. Somatic symptoms accounted for 5% of the variance in RT-measured FAB. PHQ-8 total and cognitive-affective symptoms were unrelated to all FAB indices (ps ≥ 0.09).
Conclusions
Only greater somatic symptoms of depression were linked to food attentional bias as measured using reaction time. Well-powered prospective studies should examine whether this bias replicates, particularly for eye-tracking measures, and whether it partially mediates the depression-to-obesity relationship
